Not sure if it's well-named but it's funny. Hell, MI. It freezes over every winter. ;D Also some people go there to get married. It can only get better from there, right? I'm not sure what the road to Hell is paved with. I think it's asphalt. ;) People like to send postcards from Hell. The whole town is one big joke. It's 342 miles and a 5-1/2 hour drive from Hell to Paradise, MI. A lot of snowmobilers think Paradise is well named.

I've been to Hell and back. My Grandparents weren't to sure about the postcards my sister and I sent them (Grandpa was a pastor in his younger days.)
Went fishing at Gnaw Bone, Indiana once

Here at the coast we always enjoy Morehead,..City, ::) its just around the bend from Hornytown, NC.
The locals say it with the "H" being silent, ;).
Marines deploying for Med Cruises often board ship at Morehead City.
-
440 miles from Mott t' Hoople. ;D You can go All the way from Memphis.
If you know how to pronounce Nacogdoches... you might be a redneck. :)
Most places aren't named for a real thing that's there but Alabaster, MI is named after a variety of gypsum used in drywall, mined here since 1837.
There's Mesick, and Pine Stump Junction, MI.
We also have Romulus and Remus.

We also have the Romulus and Remus statue here in Rome, GA. Supposedly came from Mussolini prior to WWII.
-
My brother-in-law was a minister in Earth, TX for about a year... The nearest ATM was 20 miles away in Muleshoe (another name from the list). They sold postcards of the Earth Police.
BTW, it's about 60 miles from Roswell, NM.
-
Here are a couple of towns in West Virginia I didn't see on the lists.
Frog Awnry - My grandfather was raised there
Big Beaver
It's not a town, but I always found Pee Pee Creek in Ohio to be quite amusing, also. ;D
Swoop
-
Grosse Tete, LA (Big Head)
-
TyTy, Georgia. zip code 31795.

We don't have the statue, just two towns named after the boys.

Glad somebody found Peculiar, MO.
Also, down near Tightwad, you will find Racket, and further south, Hurricane Deck.
Grizzle Bear
-
Some more rather odd PA names -
Analomink -I really don't want to know.
Gump
Climax
Coplay - This is by me. Oh, to be a LEO here!
Hosensuck
Of - Just 'Of'. Really.
Virginville - Must be quickly heading to zero population.
Liltitz
Bulger
Clyde No 3 - There's no No 1 or No 2...
Coon Hunter
Foot of Ten - a nod to new math?
Ogle
Two Lick
Gringo - Illegal invader sanctuary?
Braintrim - A nice Chianti and Fava Beans, anyone?
-
Clyde No 3 is easy to explain. It's an old mining town named afer the mine. Just like Thompson 2 down near Uniontown.
The were company built and yes, they had a company store.

You forgot Oil City, Paradise, Oval and Slaughtertown. Footnote: Paradise and Intercourse and very close to each other!

There is also a small town/bend-in-the-road on the way to St. Augustine:
Bulls Hit. They are semi-famous for potatoes and potato chips
-
You forgot Coxsackie in NY... :o :o
-
How about in PA east of Lancaster... Bird In Hand and Intercourse.

New Mexico:
Flying H, NM
Truth Or Consequences, NM
Weed, NM
Years ago, a popular game show was taped at Hot Springs, NM which was later renamed after the show "Truth or Consequences". The town actually has hot springs and is the entrance to Elephant Butte Lake.

The host said he would do the show in the first town that changed their name. The town changed their name so the show was taped there.

I've been to Maybe CA, just in the border from NV.
I live near California MD which is next to Hollywood MD and down the road a bit is Scotland MD

If you think that's bad, there are people, with some working in California post offices, that believe New Mexico is in another country.

American schools apparently suck at teaching geography, there are some people who think New Mexico IS a foriegn country :(
-
Texas keeps saying it's "a whole nother country". Did not misspell "nother" by accident, that is how they spell it. Figure this out, Texas has a county named Bexar, Spanish name, which they pronounce Bear. The X has more of a J sound to it.

You probably know that for about 10 years (1836 - 1846) they WERE a whole nother country. But you may not know that the Republic of Texas Navy was the first Naval service in the WORLD to issue repeating handguns, the Colt Patterson.
-
No, did not know that about Texas. Knew about them being a republic. Someone was saying that they have the only state flag that can fly equal height to the US flag, because they had been a republic. I'll be nice and end it here.

Vermont and Hawaii were independent as well, Vermont broke from NH at the beginning of the revolution and did not join the "United States" until the time of the Constitution.
