Title: Remington xp100
Post by: TAB on February 26, 2020, 05:13:26 PM
I dont know why, but for some reason i have a " need" for  one.

Any one own one?

Anything too look for?   I know rem had a safety recall in the late 70s for thier bolt actions.  So if i find an ealier model i need to see if that has been done( does remington still do these for free if its not done?)

Yep.  Just get a good scope with a lot of eye relief.  I have an older one in 221 Fireball.  It's as accurate as can be.

Are you getting one of the "old school" in 221 or one of the newer chamberings?

Wikipedia has a pretty good write up on them.

Not sure one that one yet.

I was at the range and guy let me shoot his in 22-250.

I had the light bulb go on and thought this would make a great  pest destroyer, but more fun than a normal rifle.   Not to mention its size ment it could live in a kitchen drawer.  For easy access.   That is if i can ever find a place to buy.

This is typical of well run (our old favorite) companies.  I purchased a Ruger Single-Six three screw.  It had the safety upgrade done on it before I bought it.  I contacted Ruger about the upgrade and long term reliability.  They told me that if I sent it in they would go through it and assure it was up to standard.  Three weeks, ship to receive, and I had the gun back with a new upgrade installed and a complete work order and explanation of what they did.  Reader's Digest version of the paperwork was thank you for trusting Ruger, being a responsible owner, and since materials have improved over the decades, they installed all new materials to assure the longest and most reliable life of the firearm.

Dillon, MEC, RCBS, and Smith&Wesson are just a few others that I have had go far above and beyond what a consumer would expect in customer service.

Just a fyi, ruger warrenty  services is the only gun company  that if they can not fix you gun, will destroy it, register it destroyed with the aft and pull one off the line and put your serial number on it.  That way the new gun can be mailed back too you.    That has to cost them a lot of money and head ache.

I ended up not winning the auction, placed my max bid and went out to dinner.  No big deal.  There are plenty more out there.

I shot IHMSA metallic silhouette in the early 80's (prior to learning about IPSC)... the hot bolt pistols in those days were the Wichita and XP... prior to being a factory produced pistol, pistol smiths would chamber a 7BR (bench rest... very short .308 case) to 7-08... 7mm on a .308 case...

That seems like a lot of power for a hand gun.  For what i need, it just have to be able to reach out and kill a coyote at a couple hundred yards.   Does not take too much to do that.

Then the original 221 Fireball (222 parent case) will do it for you.  I really like it...mild recoil.  It clocks about 2950 fps with the 45 grain load in the pistol...and picks up 250 FPS in a rifle.  Larry Potterfield really likes it in the rifle....I've been looking offhand for a Remington 700 in good shape at a reasonable price and haven't found one I like.

I also like it for being the parent case of the 17 Fireball which I do have in a Rem 700.

They should have thought about buying guns and ammo when they were buying toilet paper by the pallet full. A guy working at the grocery store told me some guy bought an incredible amount of toilet paper. I think he said 15 pallets full, or something like that. Then he died before he could use any of it. That was one of several days I went in and all of the T.P. shelves were empty. Remember, guns and T.P. will get you through hard times better than T.P. alone. <-- I should trademark that. :)

You have been sequestered in the basement too long!  Get outside, breath in some fresh air, and let the sun shine on your pointy little head.

Pointy little head? My head is shaped like a gable roof. A big one. :( I breathed some fresh air once. My reaction was like W.C. Fields the day he drank a glass of water.

When I get rid of my cough I might go out more, but for now I think I should stay in when I can. I have to go to the grocery store and drug store in a couple of days, but I'll be wearing an N95 respirator that's been in the basement for years. I didn't stockpile any, but sometimes I wear them when I'm sanding or spray painting and had a few.

Jimmy Durante. He lived until 1980 and was still performing until 11 years after the XP-100 was designed. I have comedy records, cassettes, and CDs of stuff from here and there during the last 100 years, but mostly from the 1980s until now. And thanks to Dr. Demento and a couple of other guys I've heard a lot of novelty songs and other things I otherwise wouldn't have too. Some are laugh out loud funny, and some just leave me scratching my head wondering why? Why did Mae West sing Twist and Shout on an album that came out 3 years after the Beatles' Please Please Me album came out? It's on YouTube if you're brave enough to listen to it. She also died in 1980. I have other interests besides guns, but this is the only forum I'm on.

If you can't find something to laugh about in this world you're doomed. It costs less to listen to funny songs than it does to buy ammo when you need to blow off steam. Plus you can listen to any kind of music a lot more places than you can do any kind of shooting. I'll stop after this one. I can't argue their point. ;D
