Title: MantisX Trigger Training
Post by: alfsauve on May 04, 2020, 10:16:54 AM
Just so happened, before all this Wuhan Virus fuss got going, I was shown a MantisX trigger tool.

Wow, just stepped dry fire up to a whole 'nother level.   After about 1,000 rounds I finally got to the range (The outdoor range.  The fresh air and sunshine range.) and I could tell I was at a higher level in shooting plates.  Not just with the G17, but with my 1911 and my revolver as well.

Here's an example of a target I did earlier on, then the MantisX analysis of what I was doing with the trigger and hold.

Cool technology. That's like having a shooting coach tied to the gun.
I looked them up and it's not a bad cost either (On Amazon....may be cheaper elsewhere, that's just the first place that popped up on a search).

It was NRA Instructor Coach who showed our class this.  Since he worked for the store, 3 of us put in orders and got a 20% discount.

MARSHALL:  Michael  got one recently.  So did Kevin.  Might be  a review over on AmmoMan.

BTB, it has a Bullseye mode with a longer trigger dwell time recording.

If you're serious Olympic shooter then this is just a toy.  There are other makes geared for Olympic and they cost about 10x the MantisX.

That's fine if you have a smart phone.
I don't.
My Kindle doesn't handle external add ons, or whatever they are called.
I've been seeing ads for a bore scope that hooks to your smart phone as well.
I think it's the same one they were advertising for ear wax as well   ;D

Tom you get somebody's used Smart Phone and just not connect it to a wireless service.  Only use it with WiFi and to do APPs like MantisX.

My only disappointment is my revolvers and my 1911 don't have rails.    I can certainly find or build a clamp on device for the revolvers,  I think my Sig P250 (DAO) is an okay substitute for revolver training.  But I don't think I'm willing to buy a new 1911 just to get a rail.

On a positive note, even though most of my time has been spent with MantisX on my G17, I've notice a marked improvement in my revolver shooting.  Concentrating on straight-back trigger press has been the result.

Two things.
1. I reviewed the newest Mantis over at Ammoman (http://). Bottom line, I like it.

2. Mantis sells a short length of Pic rail that attaches to the bottom of the mag (https://mantisx.com/products/magrail-magazine-floor-plate-rail-adapter-universal) or any flat surface like a revolver frame. That's what's holding the rail onto the bottom of my CZ P07 mag in this picture. It's worked great so far, but I've yet to use it in live-fire.

Special bonus thing!

There's an Ammoman group of Mantis users (https://train.mantisx.com) you can join so we can hold ourselves responsible to each other.

Gave me a great idea for my revolver.  Attach the rail to the grips.

I guess I either missed this or now I am interested in it.  I know a couple of you guys said you got one and I looked at Keith's review on Ammoman dot com.  I'm stuck on my behind with a broken foot for another 2 weeks or so and dry fire training would be a good diversion.

Any update on the Mantis system or other dry fire training systems?  I'm stuck on my behind with a broken foot for another 2 weeks or so and dry fire training would be a good diversion.

I learned what I was doing wrong and haven't used in the past 3 years.  Among things I did with it was record my shooting motions in a Glock (GSSF) Indoor League.  Now that I've more or less nailed down my problems it sits unused.   I CONSIDRED it, like taking a class from a pro, money well spent to find out what I was doing wrong.

I'd forgotten they make a flat surface rail.  I may go back and work on my revolver skills with that.

They've added a new features and stuff in the past 4 years and I haven't kept up with them.

PRIOR to  Mantis, but I had tried two different laser trainers.  One that was a simulated cartridge (9mm) and the other was muzzle mounted.  Don't remember the make/models of them, but were the popular selling items at the time <2020.  I flat out wore out the 9mm cartridge one.  Used it in a Glock and a Sig to the point it wouldn't react to the hammer fall half the time.  The other one also had reliability issues after a while also though I don't now why.  I junked them.  I think the newer ones may be  more reliable.   I notice Mantis offers a system and if I weren't doing so much live fire I might try there's out now.
