Title: New Beginnings
Post by: BAC on October 25, 2020, 10:09:24 AM
I have not worked since the middle of July.  It has been a real drag, let me tell you.  It was supposed to be for 2 months.  Then furlough got extended to 3 months, and then again to 5½ months.  But soon everything's going to change.

Before my furlough was extended a second time I found out that a rather well-known (to this crowd) manufacturing facility in Exeter, NH was looking for machinists, so I threw my hat in the ring.  They interviewed me remotely and within 4 hours they offered me a pretty good package.  Well, we slowed down and thought about it and decided that it really wouldn't be a good idea to move out of PA right now.  As soon as my forced time off was extended a second time I contacted that company again and asked if the offer was still on the table.  Not only did they still want me, they offered me more money (that's how busy they are).

Yes, there are other opportunities in our area, but we've been wanting a change, and New Hampshire seemed to be a big enough change.  My wife likes the beach and I like history, so there's plenty of both to keep us happy for quite some time.  Incidentally, on the day I called SIG back I got a call from Ruger about a job, and about a week later Smith & Wesson called as well.  When it rains it pours.

Does this mean I'll get to go to SHOT now?

Congrats

Should I wait to purchase my X5 Legion until you can custom build it for me?

That's cool BAC.
I'm afraid you'll be arriving in our crappiest season unless you ski.
Foliage is just passing peak now so you'll miss that.
Plan on commuting.
Exeter is one of the most expensive  housing markets in the state.

The wife wants to learn to ski.  Will be living temporarily in Hampton until our apartment in Manchester is ready.  I'm looking forward to working as much overtime as they'll allow.  I've got a lot of catching up to do.

Learn to do your own ski maintenance.  New England has some icy conditions, tough on the edges.  Gotta keep em sharp!

Good luck!

Manchester is a liberal shithole. robberies, stabbings and shootings are a daily event.
I know a lady in Candia which is between Manchester and Exeter, I'll ask if she knows of anything there if you'd like.
Other wise carry, ALWAYS.

My brother live in Manchester for a while.  He let us know what areas to shy away from.
We've been in the "hood" part of Manchester.  Reminded me of certain areas of Pittsburgh.

On the OTHER hand Bass Pro is supposed to be the 2nd biggest gun store with in 10 minutes of any where in town.    ;D
I haven't seen the other store, but it's supposed to be huge.

So you said not to wait.

Helped your new employer out, today.  Got the X5 Legion.  $889.  New, I mean, never opened new, damp with oil, in the bag since it left the factory, never been wiped down, new.  Will use it for SSP in IDPA and Production in USPSA come January.

Love it!  In 90 days I'll get to take advantage of employee pricing and sign up for training at the academy.

Manchester is like a real city, only in miniature.  Found the Bass Pro shop already.

Being so close to Boston is pretty nice, too.  Just found out there's a Leica Store in Boston.  Still can't afford one, but being able to drool in person will be nice.

If ya have to go to Boston for an overnight visit, watch the hotel rates!  I stayed in Somerville and was charged an extra $25 in an open, unsecured lot for parking!

Boston is $50 or more per night for parking!

I will keep that in mind.  It's been a minute since I've been to Boston.  It'll be nice being able to do day trips on mass transit.

If a fat (really fat) Dutchman named Peter Commandour is still there tell him I said Hi.

I pretty much avoid Boston!  In 38 years I’d been there once on purpose!

Now, my wife is having health issues so I have no choice!

Just stopped at Shooters Outpost in Hookset. It qualifies as huge. It even has its own firearms museum.

Damn. I need to get down there and check that out.
Only time I get down that way is when another heart attack sends me to CMC.
