According to Answers.com:
www.answers.com/topic/saturday-night-special
The phrase Saturday night special is pejorative slang used in the United States and Canada for any inexpensive handgun. Saturday night specials have been defined as compact, inexpensive handguns with low perceived quality; however, there is no official definition of "Saturday night special" under any federal or state law. Low cost and availability make them attractive to low-income buyers despite their shortcomings.
Show me yours; Ill show you mine.....
Here is a 6 shot Colt Police Positive in .38 S&W. It was actually handed down to me from my wife's grandfather (Who promises that I get more guns someday when he passes away). I don't really know the story behind this gun, but it has an "NC" and a serial number hand scribed on the frame on the other side not shown in the photo. This gun looks like hell (With only about 25% of finish left - and the grips are probably worth more then the gun), but it runs like a clock. I just wish .38 S&W ammo wasn't so damn costly because I would love shooting it more often.

As close as I have to a "Saturday Night Special"
A Israeli 1911 clone I got for $400 many moons ago in CA
A S&W M-10 38Spcl that was the mother-in-laws's that my wife acquired after she passed.

Hell, I have an old RG Industries .22 snubbie that cost $35 back in about 1974!

As soon as someone comes up with an acceptable definition I'l figure out if I own one or not. Until then I'm not inclined to use made-up anti-gun terminology such as that.

All my pistols - including the LCP - have never been used for that, and they go target shooting with me on a regular basis. THe only saturday night specials I own are the certificates Red Robin hands out for dinner and a movie.

Ya mean, like "Assault weapon" ?

Ya mean, like "Assault weapon" ?
Exactly. That woud be any weapon you use to assault someone with, right? My neighbor's hands are assault weapons, and court documents and my emergency room medical records prove it. An assault weapon is NOT an assault rifle which is a real thing that has a an actual definition. I honestly don't think it does us any good to use the anti-gunner's terminology during show and tell and discussing our firearms in a public forum. We can joke using these absurd terms in private but I feel we aren't helping our cause by saying things like that in public. I'm not trying to start trouble. I just don't agree with using the same words the antis do to vilify us and our guns.

Are they still in business, ?
From Wikipedia; In November of 1991, a fire destroyed the Raven Arms factory. Jennings retired and sold Raven Arms designs to Phoenix Arms. Phoenix was owned in equal shares by his ex-wife, Jennings' children; four of his daughter's children; and by Raven's former general manager. The mainstay of the new company is still the .25-caliber Raven model.
I miss my Jennings .22s too. $50-60 brand new.
