Thank God for kerosene heaters.

-8 F Where?
-
We've had several mornings -10.
First time in several years I recall it being below zero with out wind chill.
I say bring on the global warming !

This ain't FL, but we should hit 65+ today. Sadly our burden to bear is that warm weather in the winter comes rain. We'll survive though. No worries.
I hate cold. I hate being cold. Beside a year in the southern Illinois corn fields, several weeks in Fairbanks and some of that spent trapesing above the artic circle. NOT BY CHOICE. I had more than enough of cold, thank you. This is as far north as I ever want to live. If it weren't for the grand kids, I'd be either on the coast of SC or I'd join Kevin in SW FL.
-
It's been in the 60's here, but yesterday we had 45 MPH winds. Really blustery.

Its 8:45. 9 degrees and -2 with windchill. I got 1 excavator started ( it has a diesel fired pre heater) the other i have had a kerosene heater pumping 40k btu in the engine compartment. I am hopeful in about an hour I can get it started.

We're considering a southward move before too long. New Hampshire's nice and we both have good jobs, but damn it's cold and wintery here!

I HATE cold
But there are things I hate more, Hurricanes, tornado's, earthquakes, volcano's, floods, mudslides, snakes, alligators, and Massholes. ;D

Move out this way Tom. It's hot in the summer, but there is almost non existent humidity. Mild Winters. Very little rain. No tornadoes or hurricanes. And Mohave County voted 83% for Trump in the last election.
We even have a guy here who fixed his truck up with F*#K BIDEN computer wrap all over it! Here it is, (scroll down):

I like SOME water.
Aren't you the guy who can't shoot in summer, because metal gets to hot to touch, and your ammo changes ? ::)
No thanks, I'll just bitch about the snow. ;D

We've got a lake 40 miles long that's full of it. And you won't freeze your ass off in it. I don't shoot from late May to early October. Or about 4-1/2 months a year. The rest of the time it's perfect.
Compared to Chicago with it's 90 day Summers, (June, July, and August), and half of that time it's raining, or else threatening to.... Which is the only time you can shoot without freezing your ass off, I'll take it here hands down.
Both my cars are 2015, and 2018, and have yet to be driven on a wet street. The only time they get wet is when I wash them. And that's usually once or twice a year.

sent you a pm billt
i dont mind the cold, it actually does not feel that bad here. its not a wet cold, its very dry.
just when the snow hit the ground the idiots on the road get a million times worse.
here is a great idea.... slow the f..k down. take off slow, stop slow you will be fine.

But if they drive FAST, especially with bald tires, and no brakes, they will eventually eliminate their carbon footprint.
Probably won't even hurt the tree doing it. ;D

NO. NO. I'm not falling for that. "It's a dry cold." Went to Tucson. Sis-in-law said I'd like it, because it's a dry heat. No no. It was still 103. The shiny, bright chrome hand rails at the swimming pool were too hot to touch.
Hot is hot and Cold is cold. Period.
Oh and we've had 2.5" of rain this week. In snow terms that's the same as 2' of snow only without the cold

It does make a difference. 90 degrees and 90% humidity will feel hotel tham 100 degrees and 10%
Its basic physics. You have more mass to the air. Which means more energy storage

Agree 100%. And it works the other way as well. 40 F Cold dry air at 10% relative humidity feels A LOT COLDER than 40 F air at 80% humidity.
-
It feels. It feels. Science also say no matter how hard the wind blows or how high or low the humidity is water does not freeze at 40f. I'll take the "it feels yukkie" over sub freezing temps any day.
-
If the wind blows hard enough it's all bad!

I'd be careful here. I have pictures of a number of you and I'm not afraid to photoshop them.

I guess that job with Guiness Book didn't pay enough after all ;D
The very thought brings tears to my eyes.
Mostly laughter. ;D

Fast forward a few days and highs are almost 50 degrees and low is 20.
Other than hard to get stuff started I liked it better colder. Keeps your feet dry as the snow does not melt.
-
It's been warming up quite a bit here as well. Lows in the high 50's, and highs for the next several days close to 80. I'll most likely drag out my generators, and other power equipment, and give them all a good run, and put some fresh fuel in everything. Summer is just around the corner.

PITA .
Everything that melts washes away the sand and then refreezes over night .
You can see the G-D'ed sand under the black ice you just slipped on.
Used to be funny, now it might be a broken hip. ;D

Up north as I understand it there are three seasons. Winter, Slush and 4th of July.

A better chance of that for me. My house has a handicap ramp that can be used as a ski slalom this time of year. We have to keep a rope blocking it to keep people from using it. If I, or someone, were to fall on it they wouldn't stop sliding for 1/4 mile. ;^)

Gives a whole new meaning to "slippery Slope" , they aren't all political. ;D

We have 4 seasons: Autumn, Winter, Still Winter, and Road Construction.

Winter, and 2 weeks of crappy skiing . ;D
