I'm going to have to consider one of these for after dark racoon and possum removal...or whatever the dogs tree. I like that it's got more oomph than a 22LR and the cartridge design should be more reliable than a 22 mag in a semi-auto action (though my CZ 512 has never had a hiccup). Plus it's something my wife can easily use.

I was interested in it until I thought about the price of ammo compared to 5.56 NATO or .223 Rem. It sounds good for your use, but I can do without a caliber between .22 rimfires and 5.56x45mm.
You could convert an AR-15 to .221 Remington Fireball instead. ;) That would be an intersting gun too. And you could make all the brass you want from .223 cases. Cheap, if you already have reloading equipment.

Frank the main thing is something my wife doesn't mind shooting. I have a 221 Fireball in XP-100 and a 17 Fireball rifle. She doesn't like the blast from those calibers.

The idea is something 1/2 the length of a 5.56 for a much shorter action. One wonders about any benefits to down loading it to sub-sonic velocities.

It sounds like a good gun for her Rastus. But I'd still like to see what the .221 Fireball does from an AR carbine. It would fill a (possibly non-existent) niche between 5.7 and 5.56 ARs. How do you thlnk the muzzle blast would be?
One of my brothers told me how many different 5.7 pistols he has now, since he went on a buying spree for Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and the AR-15 days of Christmas(?). I forgot to ask if he has or he's getting a Ruger 5.7 carbine too. I can't afford more guns right now, but I bought several knives. I'll try to post some this week.

if you think you need a trigger upgrade... I added a Volquartsen PC hammer ... it made a noticeable difference in my PC 9mm carbine' trigger pull... it comes with a slave pin to hold the trigger/disconnector temporarily in alignment so you can push the trigger pin through the trigger housing...helpful if you change out the trigger return plunger... $35 on the VQ clearance site plus shipping

I picked up a 5 1/2" bull barrel for my 22/45 MKIV that replaced the lite OEM barrel....as well as one of their enhanced bolts, basically for the price of a replacement extractor and firing pin
all the MK IV barrels interchange, but I wish they weren't serialized, requiring a 4473
