If you have an urge to build your own 1911 here's a place to start. I'm enrolled in the current class that starts in Jan 09

Sounds like a winner, please update as things go along.

Will do and I can't wait

That sounds very neat to be guided through the process and to have all the parts pre-selected for you. It is a little steep, but then good instruction isn't cheap.
-
Have you thought about a finish yet? Dura coat is very easy and more personalized than most. just a thought.

After you complete you gun you send it to the instructor for grading and finishing.
Options:
Parkerizing
KG coat over the Parkerizing, single color or two tone
Here is a link to some finished guns from previous classes:

I'll be getting started on this in the next week or two. The instructor Bill Zollo is going to get the parts in the mail and receiver sent to my FFL after SHOT. I'll get pics up as I go.

I just posted on the other recent DIY thread about KT Ordnance, which produces a legal 60% non-gun 1911 frame that you finish up by cutting slide rails, drill and tap a few holes, and add all of the fiddly bits. $300 for the 60% frame. Anyone interested, here's the site:
