Title: Apple AirTags
Post by: Big Frank on February 17, 2024, 04:28:37 AM
If you order AirTags directly from Apple you can get free engraving on them. And they sell 4-packs for $99, saving you $4.25 per, off the $29 price of one. I made a sample of 4 to give you some idea of what's available. In my case, I chose AR-15 to go in a Strike Industries Strike AirTag Holder (Picatinny), one for an ATV, a car, and a gun case or suitcase. If you're going to buy one, or several AirTags, you may as well get the free engraving for whatever you plan to tag with them. Then when you look for your item have it's symbol show up on the map. My chances of ever buying an iPhone are slim to none, but if you have one, this may be the best Apple device ever made.

Thieves are using AiTags to steal cars. When they see a car they want, they stick the magnetic tag somewhere on the car. Then, in the middle of the night when you're sleeping, they come and get the car.

If someone steals your stuff with an AirTag on it, an hour later(?) it will alert them there's an AirTag nearby. And they can use their iPhone to tell it to chime so they can find it! Here's how to take the speaker out so it can't chime.

Apple also made an Android app for the rest of us called Tracker Detect that I downloaded from Google Play. When you turn it on you can the area for AirTags and similar tracking tags that are outside of their owner's Bluetooth range. It may take up to 15 minutes after an item tracker is separated before you can find it. So if someone just dropped it in your pocket the scan could come up clean.
