This is part of a Letter to the Editor, ATL Journal that ran yesterday. Maybe the author didn't stop and give thought to his phrasing. OR maybe it just really reflects how he subconsciously views government. I also understand, having had a few published, that the Editor picks the title to the letter, not the author.
The article is about OSHA hearings on rules/guidelines to protect workers. What bothers me is the wording I've highlighted, especially the idea that the government ALLOWS you to take breaks. Again, maybe just a poor choice of words. Still it rubs me the wrong way. Surely the Editor noticed it as well and decided to run it as is.
AS THE WORLD GETS HOTTER, WHO WILL PROTECT US?
.. Imagine you are a field laborer or construction worker, constantly on the move on a sunny day with temperatures above 90 degrees. Climate change is making such days more common-place. Shouldn't the government protect you from heat suffering, stroke or death by allowing you water breaks at reasonable intervals.
<snip> who is going to protect you...

It is a frightening mindset, but it is a growing mindset in this nation. It is also the group that is putting Democrats in office, and that is fueling the Swamp on both sides of the story.

I did that over black geotextiles tuesday at 102... the drops of sweat would instantly evaporate when it hit the fabric...
I swear we need to mandate people taking a booster shot of manthefuckup.

Print newspapers blame all of their ills on "the internet". I am thinking the biggest disrupter for the print media is the liberal crap they continually spew causing people to drop their subscriptions...that worked for me.
Yeah...the government was really protecting us when they shoved the CCP virus vaccine up our arses. And the overspending spree both the repubs and dims swooned to create thereby taxing my hard earned retirement away with insipid inflation....yeah...that government. We really need them to protect us with ~10,000 untested chemicals most made from petroleum stock they put in our food which surely has not a thing to do with the cancer epidemic...yeah...that government.
And all of the vaccines that children need to have which surely has nothing to do with the rampant epidemic of autism in our youth...yeah, that government.
I want "that government" to protect me for sure.

When I was working in the shop and the heat index was at least 130 degrees in metal assembly, I was throwing Trans Am/Camaro rear frame rails all day, and we got a break a couple of times over the years. Our committee man and another person came down on a scooter with a big jug of Kool-Aid, from the cafeteria I think, and we each got a little cupful before slinging steel the rest of the day. Picking them up, tossing them in weld fixtures, and hitting a button to cycle the welder, over and over again. We got a break because our union local got it for us, not because GM wanted to give it to us, and not because the government would take care of us either.
I have a very low heat tolerance and I'm still alive. Being outdoors in 90 degree heat with some breeze would have felt like sitting in front of a fan in comparison. As Heath Franklin in his impression of Chopper Read said, "Harden The F**k Up!"
