Title: Shooting USA's Impossible Shots
Post by: Pathfinder on September 30, 2008, 07:09:30 PM
I got a blurb in the email today about this new show on The Outdoor Channel. Look, TOC, if you're hard up for content, talk with MB instead of putting this lame-ass stuff on for a whole half-hour. We are trying to get fresh people involved in shooting, not send them running away screaming.

I can take trick shooting for 30 seconds. 30 minutes? No way. Good people, watched Jerry and Tom and Bob before, good shows. But this is not IMNSHO a good way to spend 30 minutes of viewers' time.

from the email . . .

September 30, 2008

This week we launch a new series. Shooting USA's Impossible Shots starts Wednesday Night at 7:00PM and 10:30PM Eastern Time.

Shooting USA adds an additional half-hour of programming in Outdoor Channel's Wednesday Night At The Range. The new series expands the feature that has been airing for the past 15 years, as an element of the shows hosted by Jim Scoutten.

Now Shooting USA's Impossible Shots becomes a complete show, providing a half-hour of entertainment and amazement, as the world's best Professional Exhibition Shooters demonstrate their skill, performing shots that would be impossible for any one else to accomplish. The new series is hosted by Brian Speciale, the newest member of the Tier One Media team of Television Professionals.

The Impossible Shots Pro Team of Exhibition Shooters:

Bob Munden -- Tom Knapp -- Byron Ferguson -- Jerry Miculek -- Tim Bradley

Well I guess the good news is, I don't have to fast forward thru the whole show now to get to the good stuff.

The more shooting related show out there the better it is for all of us. Anyway I can't sit through biggest loser and american idol when my wife has command of the remote.  :'(

I am looking forward to watching it. Just as I look forward to every Wednesday night shows. If the show is for archery I'll just skip it.
The sad news this week is that Kelly Gotch will not be hosting Michigan Outdoors any more! The good news is that she will be on the Pursuit Channel beginning in January and is cohosting Step Outside on TOC.
The Wall Street Journal has a front page article on women hunting. I recommend it to you.

I don't mind the "impossible shots" as long as it's shooting.

what I mind, and I'm writtin' Jim and John about, is the archery stuff.   Nothing agin' archery, but if I wanted bows and arrows, I'd tune into a bow and arrow show.   Whats I want is "shootin' "  Guns.  Firearms.  Click-boom.   Not twangy-twangy stuff.

I'm watching the show right now.  Since I love shooting of almost every type I am enjoying it.  The show is made up of segments from past Shooting USA shows, but is still entertaining to me.

Obviously it is not a show for everyone, but anything that shows shooting in a positive light and what practice, practice, practice can do is worth the air time.

On a similar vane  ;), Shooting USA was on the National Archery in Schools Program.  Our local club has helped put this in our local school, and even though it is archery it has gotten a lot of kids interested in shooting sports.  It is also an easy way to show kids what this sport can do for them for a lifetime, and this show explains that well.

The o'l stick and string. It is a skill and disapline.
draw
point
aim
shoot
 ;D
I have tried it and can see the addiction. And the bow shooters have my respect.

For me I like things that go BOOM ;D

M58,
what archery?  ??? were you sending a picture about archery? :) I didn't see any archery. ;) ;D
BTW I have in the distant past had archery awards -- I just like things that go bang and shoot farther better. :)

The bad thing about archery is, Arrows are more expensive than bullets! Also, I've never been any good with a bow. Never had too many opportunities to try it either though......

I watched part of it and thought it was OK.  I'm more on th etechie/gear junkie side of things but like seeing how the best can do.  The segment with Bob Mundon shooting the fletching off the arrow was impressive.  Probably won't be a show I run home to watch though.

I am of the opinion, like others, that ANY TV show or report that isn't trying to make us the bad guys is good for the collective group, hunters, shooters, and bowmen.

I'd love to be able to get the local high school to have any shooting pogram, including archery.  The oldest has expressed some interest in action pistol and would be a good way to get her out of the house and participating in something besides texting and MySpace.

jnevis,

A way we got it into our local school was through Agriculture.  Or Ag instructor and FFA advisor runs the shooting program in the school.  He is also the one that does the Archery in School program.  He has struggles with two school board members that think guns are bad, but it is a part of FFA so it has been able to stay.

If you can't get it in the school look into 4-H and Scouting.  We have shooting kids that drop 4-H because they don't like all the meetings, but we found out that shooting practices and events count as meetings.  So, shooting sports kids need very few general meetings a year up hear, and it has really helped the program.

Did anyone see American Rifleman last night.  I only caught a couple minutes and thought it was going to be good, but the freezer in the garage took a dump and I spent the next hour figuing out what to squeez in the small freezer and what to eat quick.  So much for Wednesday Night at the Range  :'(

Our schools don't have 4H or FFA and the Scouters, both Boy and Girl Scouts, are deathly afraid of anything firearms related.  I was Council staff in Japan and San Diego for BSA and the restrictions on what even the Explorers (older, high school age, co-ed) could do was almost not worth trying.  I got around the rules to some extent when I was a Scout and in Japan but could only imagine the differences now, almost 10 years of law suits later.

Sorry to hear that.  When I was doing my time in California (from my 10th birthday till I graduated) I had an old farmboy history to sustain me while my uncles made sure I kept up on my interest on hunts and at private ranges.

The only other advice I can give it to find a range or club that is willing to include youth in an existing program or start one.

Good Luck !!!

Shouldn't she have protectors on her, well, um, at least her forearm?

That's some damn fine shooting too!

It was a nice piece on NASP.  It is a great program and a good video segment.  I even enjoyed learning about it.    I think I see why they did this piece.

But in general SUSA, SG and AR should be about guns.

[M58] Is she using constant or variable cams?  Hard to focus in the picture.

Not sure.

I just keep hoping for the chance to help adjust her form.

HEY ...  This is a shooting forum, not a fishing forum !!!

However, maybe I could get her to go duck hunting with me in the morning  ::)  They require PFD's for lake hunting now, and she might just fit the bill  ;)
