I am 100% for concealed carry - PERIOD!

I am 100% for open carry provided the person carrying uses good judgement.  We must live with the society norms we are dealt today, and discretion must be used to respect the feelings of others.

I compare it to carrying game home from a hunting trip.  Is it neccessary to lay a mule deer across the trunk of a car uncovered to get it home, or could it be tarped?  Why raise the ire of the anti's just to show something off or to save the work of tarping.

338,
 WELCOME!

The only time I do is when I'm deer and elk hunting.
ccw the rest of the time.

If it don't 'show', then they don't 'know'.......and what they don't know, won't hurt them...unless they try to hurt me and mine.

CCW..100%

As English Bob said in 'Unforgiven', "If you don't see it, or more particularly, if you don't hear it......"

I open carry very rarely, I like the element of surprise and prefer not to set myself up as a target. In principal its a wonderful thing, in reality its a bad choice. IMO

PA has open carry.  CCW is the way to go, unless you're walking in the woods around here. Our open carry provision also keeps  'brandishing' charges away if some anti-gun loon/activist spots your pistol. And, boy, did we get an influx of them from NY City.

I wouldn't open carry much if Texas made it legal, but I don't see a problem with it. It should at least be legal if you're licensed to carry.

MA has no CCW on the books so it's perfectly legal to open carry if you're licensed to carry a firearm.  It is not adviseable because "Brandishing" is considered felony assault in this state.  Though nearly 25% of the population is licensed, it's not worth the hassle of upsetting the locals.

In MA, you cannot even posess ammunition without an FID or LTC even in your own place of residence.

Walk softly and carry a BIG GUN, concealed of course.

I should have done a little better job of explaining my open carry thoughts:

I open carry when hunting of course, but I also do so when working on parts of the farm.  When cleaning up brush piles, cleaning ditches, field tiles, culverts or walking fences.  I have the bad habit of heading in to the fleet store or implement shop with a six gun on the hip ... ooooooops!

I do open carry around my house and yard, however.

In NH open carry is what you do if you are to cheap to spend $10 for a 4year CC permit. Any one who can legally possess a firearm may open carry a loaded pistol. CCW's are so easy to get that while we SHOULD to emphasize our civil rights, nobody bothers.

NC has an "open carry statute", however its a catch 22 due to another statute, "brandishing to the terror of the public", somehow an anti gun member of our state got this one on the books and makes the venerable "gray area".

So, CCW is much easier and my choice, unless I'm out camping, hiking, etc,...

In the Uwharrie National Forest, where I usually go, the General Store in Eldorado, not even a 1 horse town, most of the locals, openly carry, or have the 12 gauge on the rack in the pick-up. Very polite town, and the crime rate is zero percent.

Welcome to a great forum 338winmag.

New Mexico has open carry and CCW.  No permits needed to purchase, own firearms or ammo.  It is rare to see someone with sidearm and it does not cause any problems.  Maybe in Albuquerque or Santa Fe with the large influx of people from the west and east coast, might have problems with open carry.

$10! That is amazing. In my neck of the woods it costs $50 for the permit + $50-$75 for the training class...... and that is only because we have a grass roots organization that has pressured it down from $100.

Right on. I agree. Good Judgement is key. Unfortunately, not everyone has the same idea as to what Good Judgement is.

You're right there...Poor judgement by those who don't deserve the power they so carelessly wield is why this country is up crap-creek now.

In the woods/ wilds   I am all for open carry.   Other wise, I don't like it... far to many people out there are OCing strickly becuase they know it will bother others, they want that confrontation.

Yeah, yeah I know, you would never do it, but far to many people out there do.( hell goto places like THR, very common.)

I also beleave it can make you a target.  the last thing I want on my back is a target.

I agree that CCW is the best way - it keeps folks guessing and the chances of me becoming a target are lessened. CO. has both open carry and CCW but some Mayors ie: Denver mayor chickenpooper (Dem) make it questionable to even CCW in certain areas of den. with catch 22 laws - I prefer CCW!

Albuquerque and Santa Fe are starting to exhibit some of the same attitudes as Denver.

I open carry around her eon weekends.. Sometimes I forget to take it off before I go into our local Quick Trip out on the highway....to get weekend beverages and ice ... .I  get some weird looks from out of towners stopping in to get gas.. .but.....oh well....  ;)

But conceal is better in the real world outside of my little cow town (where everyone has a gun with them)

Denny Crane agrees................... ;D

If you were carrying a cow around with you here you'd get some REAL strange looks. This is a fish town.

Starting to hear rumors about Val Kilmer running for governor.  As if we do not have enough problems with our politicians.
