Michael,
On your podcast 74 or 75 your brought up the very good possibility of a "assault rifle" ban with Obama. Then you mentioned to get out and buy one now if someone was planing to do so, (which I am) and at the least you said to buy a lower.
Now I want to do this, but if you think there may be an out right ban would I not be throwing money away? Can you explain to help
put me at ease, and make the purchase?
Thanks,
Randy

I'm betting that there's no way to get an AWB passed without some sort of "grandfather" clause permitting people to keep existing guns. I don't that even the Democrats, who are notoriously stupid in their lust for gun control, would risk an outright ban that involved confiscation.
Rather, I think it will be a three-step program:
1) A ban of future assault weapons/standard capacity magazines
2) Registration of existing assault weapons and a ban on possession of standard capacity magazines
3) Confiscation of existing assault weapons
Only #1 is do-able in today's political climate — and even that's not a slam-dunk. It will hinge on how much intelligence the Democrats can hang onto when they have total control. The Clinton AWB created such a backlash that it put the Republicans in control for a decade, A new AWB virtually guarantees a Republican renaissance in 2010 and sets up the 2012 Presidential elections. It's not impossible that Dems like Jim Webb and Ken Salazar move to head off an AWB...it depends on how strong the Blue Dog Dems' mojo is after the election.
I personally believe that an Obama White House will NOT be able to control its Socialists leanings and will go for an AWB very quickly. If cooler heads prevail, the AWB will come in the 2nd or 3rd year of the administration after they have their income redistribution plans up and running. If they administration garners high approval ratings and/or the 2010 elections retain strong Democratic control of Congress, look for a later AWB to include registration of existing guns as well.
I wish I was more optimistic.

Michael,
Thanks for the explanation, it helps some what. Obama is just a very depressing issue to me.
Thanks again, will keep listening to the podcasts, they are very informative.

+1.
And for the record, Michael, thanks for fighting the good fight on our behalf.

I bought a lower last month and just ordered a kit this weekend. Just not feeling good about the polls this week. I know there are a few weeks to go but McCain must get his act together NOW!
-
I have been holding off on buying an AR because I don't really have anywhere to even sight it in let alone shoot it on a regular basis! Also, if there is a chance we might loose them (and everything else) I can't afford any additional hits - too much invested already and retirement budget is small!!!!!!!

I would also look for them to go after ammo through microstamping, serialized ammo, etc. as well I would get an AR or Ak , mags, and ammo then start writing your congressman and senator to let them know where you stand on the issue.

I saw the writing on the wall several months ago, and bought a AK 74, and a AR 15. I was originally going to get one and wait until 2009 for the other, but when I saw who the democrats were favoring, I was afraid to wait. ???

What are the chances that if they get the chance to write another ban that they would put AR uppers on?
