ANCHORAGE, Alaska — A legislative committee investigating Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has found she unlawfully abused her authority in firing the state's public safety commissioner. The investigative report concludes that a family grudge wasn't the sole reason for firing Public Safety Commissioner Walter Monegan but says it likely was a contributing factor.
The Republican vice presidential nominee has been accused of firing a commissioner to settle a family dispute. Palin supporters have called the investigation politically motivated.
Monegan says he was dismissed as retribution for resisting pressure to fire a state trooper involved in a bitter divorce with the governor's sister. Palin says Monegan was fired as part of a legitimate budget dispute.

And the election is OVER! >:(
-
Take it easy, Haz, and don't reach your conclusion so quickly- the election is NEARLY over. I believe that McCain is the wrong candidate for our time. I think he would be a good Secretary of Defense or something like that, but I just don't think he has the bones anymore to take him out. That's ironic considering his background in the military. And I hope I am totally wrong about all of this too.....
I believe we should still hope for the best, but it might be time to start developing a strategy to outmaneuver the socialist Democrat party when Obama takes over in January. I am doing what MB suggested and have bought an AR 15, and extra magazines or clips ;)
I think our best hope resides in either Huckabee or Palin. Take heart it's only four more years to 2012......
-
Honestly I'm not surprized, but I do have to question rather or not this would have come out if this was not an election year/ her being nomanated for VP.
-
Two key items in the article I read were one that I would call bipartisan - While the Legislature wanted the report released on schedule (or quickly) they did not vote to accept it; and on a more partisan note - Republican state Sen. Gary Stevens, a member of the committee, cautioned everyone to look at the report with a "jaundiced eye," indicating that it is not a perfect report.
Unfortunately, just as it has been since day one of the investigation, she has been considered guilty without due process. The sad thing is that of the many issues with this officer and his actions and threats I have heard no one dispute any of them. All that has been brought up is the accusation that the Gov. should not have pressured to have him removed. I know that two wrongs don't make a right, but what about the possibility that Monegan really was not doing his job?
-
This is merely the Dems attempt at an October Surprise. No surprise about the outcome of this investigation when the Democrat in charge of the panel announced shortly after the investigation began that the results would be made public at this point in history. Don't be disheartened.
B-HO is supposed to be the candidate of hope. I hope the people in this great country wake the hell up before November 4th. I'm not optimistic, but I have hope.

Wait for the actual report. Fox News just said the alleged abuse of power was "Palin not stopping her husband from using the governor's office to try to get Trooper Wooten fired." Then they said Palin's husband testified she did tell him to stop.
I'll wait to see it unfiltered through the media.

I had heard this on the radio earlier today but wasn't sure if it was true. They said her husband was pressuring and she told him to butt out (or something like that).

Gee, thanks. To top of my pissy mood this morning I got my new glasses this afternoon. I really needed 263 pages of government chatter to screw with this adjustment.
I think I gonna have a couple more beers (weekend off ... so far), get a good nights sleep, and ... did I mention that it is just 11 hours and 25 minutes till pheasant opener?

Sleep well m58........Things will get better.........(http://www.rightnation.us/forums/style_emoticons/default/comfort.gif)

UHHHH, the Japs bombed Pearl.
-
It's been years.
-
Over? Was it over when the German's bombed Pearl Harbor? Nothing is over until we say it's over! ;)
Who's with me?
BTW-Abuse of power is a really lame finding. That is the result when a partisan can't find anything really wrong. Nothing wrong happened so it was an abuse of power. It was wrong but it wasn't really wrong.

The guy that was in charge of this whole thing is an open Obama supporter, the only thing I'm wondering is why it took him so damn long to spill it.
On a (hopefully) positive note this "news" came out today, Friday, what's been the big news of the week? The economy. How long are news cycles now in the age of 24 hour news sources? 12-24 hours at most depending on circumstances. How many (normal) people stay glued to the TV watching 24 hour news broadcasts on the weekend during football season?
Besides, stack this to Barny Frank, Chris Dod, BHO's newfound deeper connections to Bill Ayers, and this looks like an honest mistake rather than a scandal.

I think Michael Bane ought to play Slim Picken's role on the Japanese (Obama) submarine. What other y'all think? ;D

Haz's story was from the AP - what do you think they were going to say. I've put some of the article from the Anchorage Daily News (http://www.adn.com/palin/story/552393.html (http://www.adn.com/palin/story/552393.html)) below, but Haz has a point - the MSM will spin this, as someone else said, portraying Palin as Public Enemy #1 while ignoring b-ho's background, character, and just what kind of fascist commie he is.
Remember, this state trooper was drunk in a squad car, tasered an 11 year old just because the kid said he wanted to be, and threatened Palin's father. In reality, much ado about nothing, but yes, a very feeble October surprise.
FTA:
Branchflower's report contains four findings. The first concludes that Palin violated the state's executive branch ethics act, which says that "each public officer holds office as a public trust, and any effort to benefit a personal or financial interest through official action is a violation of that trust." (Path here - BTW, the Legislature has no authority or control over the Governor, this is essentially an opinion piece by an Obama supporter)
...
The investigation also looked into whether Palin dismissed public safety commissioner Walt Monegan because he resisted pressure to fire Wooten.
...
"Governor Palin knowingly permitted a situation to continue where impermissible pressure was placed on several subordinates in order to advance a personal agenda ... to get Trooper Michael Wooten fired," Branchflower's report says.
...
In the second finding, Branchflower says Monegan's refusal to fire Wooten was not the sole reason for his dismissal but that it was a "contributing factor." Still, he said, Palin's firing of Monegan was "a proper and lawful exercise" of the governor's authority.
The third finding says a workers compensation claim filed by Wooten was handled appropriately. Number four concludes that the attorney general's office failed to comply with Branchflower's Aug. 6 request for information about the case in the form of e-mails.
...
In a five-page response issued Friday night, Palin's attorney, Thomas Van Flein, accuses Branchflower and Democratic Sen. Hollis French, who oversaw the investigation, of using the probe in a partisan attempt to "smear the governor by innuendo."
Van Flein says Branchflower's finding that Palin violated the ethics act is flawed because she received no monetary benefit from whatever actions she and her husband are accused of. He cited several prior ethics investigations.

Path,
I too have read other accounts but, of 5 papers I have checked this morning all lead with "Report: Palin Abused Power".
Most people will not read passed the 1st paragraph.
BTW these were all front page above the fold.
-
MSNBC(D) actually reported that Palin acted legally.
-
The "Boss" (Governor) fired a subordinate, How is this an "abuse of power". ?
I think Michael Bane ought to play Slim Whitman's role on the Japanese (Obama) submarine. What other y'all think? ;D
Hey, B Ho, try on this vest I bought you in the middle east, It's genuine Persian.

That's a good one, Tom! ;D We need to have a sense of humor about something that's not so humorous.
For the record, I made a mistake: that would be Slim Pickens, not Slim Whitman......
