If she's big enough to strike an officer, I don't really see a problem with it because the officer wouldn't have been able to take her down hard otherwise.

Nicer than shooting the kid. When I was in school a student that acted like that would have gotten 2 beatings, one from the teacher and another when she got home. Of course back in those days teachers controlled their class rooms and an 11 year old girl would have been jumping rope or playing instead of trying to push someone in front of a car.

When they say 11 year old girl tasered it sounds bad, but if they say 11 year old mutant the size of an adult it doesn't sound so bad. If it was a man that size it wouldn't even be news. When I was that age I got in trouble at school. I think I was a few minutes late getting back from recess. I got one or two swats with a paddle from my math teacher. I payed more attention the next 6 years.

Spare the rod and spoil the child.  This is what happens when the government tells you how to raise your children.  Spanking is no longer politically correct, so the majority of children now behave like they have no sense whatsoever.  Thank God, I was raised when spanking was not frowned upon and my parents took full advantage of it.  "Time outs" just don't cut it as a disciplinary measure.  When I was a child, sitting still and being quiet was a sign of good behavior which was expected in lot of situations, not a form of punishment.

Start the story with "eleven year old student that tried to push other students in traffic, overturned desks and classroom furniture, spit on teachers, and violently resisted officer gets tased to subdue ..." and you have a whole different story.  Too much to ask for balanced reporting I guess when it came to the hearing :'(  Where were the parents of those she assaulted?

The second clip is very telling.  Mom's first reaction is "my precious little snowflake couldn't have done this!"  So the teachers, children in the classroom, and resource officer are all lying, because they want your little(5'5 160ish) angel in jail?  Probably not.
My wife is a teacher, and has been for over a decade.  She sees this kind of kid all the time.  My wife has watched kids hit/bite/kick other kids, with her own eyes, and had the "parent" look her in the face and tell her "oh my little Johnny would never do that," and actually refused to believe her.  Is it just me, or does this sound insane?
Kids aren't stupid.  They know which parent to ask for things, and what they can and can't get away with and where they can get away with it.  She may play angel in front of mommy, but I'd be willing to bet this isn't the first instance of this girl acting like a lunatic.
Maybe the kid does have something legitimately wrong with her.  Maybe she just has crappy parents that she plays like a fiddle/don't care.  That doesn't make it okay to try to kill other students(what else do you call shoving children into traffic?), shoving desks at people, spitting at teachers, and assaulting a cop.  The kid should at least get a psych eval and be removed from regular classes until it can be determined wtf is going with her.
Jumbofrank has  a great point.  If you removed the age, and said "A 5'5, 160 lb female was tased after attempting to shove school children into traffic, overturning desks, and assaulting an officer," it wouldn't be a big deal.

I think we better vote for the 'Anointed One' - he's the only one who can save us. Take away police tasers & guns & instead give them a copy of the Koran to read & chalk for a 'time-out' corner.

This just shows how bad these poor socially depressed people are having to worry about not only how to get the 'rich' plumber's money, but now having to defend their poor defenseless, slightly slow 'angels' from the likes of the gestapo teachers & law enforcememnt officers!  :)

I can't believe the difference from when I was in school & now. My mother-in-law taught for 30+ years & she always bitched about the schools (the student's behavior as well as the parents') & I didn't believe it was that bad. It's not- it is worse!

And how do we fix this short of licensing births based on parental intelligence & ability?

Media is missing the point here again. This girl is probably a Special Ed student with the pattern of disruptive behavior. The problem is that school staff was too afraid of handling this situation alone; they called the cop. Wrong move! They should've called her mother first.
It's so easy to overlook why this all started, why did she pushed another girl. Kids at this age are very cruel when it comes to their relations at school, they do prey on the weak. With her "learning disability", if it turns out to be the case, she is definitely at the bottom of the pecking order.
My two boys both in the public school so, I do know current situation first hand.

The parents think they always know what is going on...

Here's the deal...they need to be controlled, but a law enforcement officer should know basic unarmed combat. It doesn't take much to wristlock something and get their attention very quickly. I'm not saying the use of the taser is wrong, but the police need to focus considerably more on unarmed combatives.

Should have dropped the little thugette with the end of a baton into the gut, If there's no marks she must be making it up.

Rather the use of the taser was justified or not, things like this will eventually lead to the removel of tasers from police officers.

Perfect example of a tool being over used/ used incorrrectly  and then having it removed from the tool box is the fire hose.  Its by far the most effective tool at breaking up large unrully crowds and is used all over the world to do so... but since it was over used here in the 60s it was cast in a bad light and was banned from use.

My ex was a substitute teacher for several years. No teacher was allowed any physical contact of any kind with a student. You can't even grab them by the wrist if they're beating the life out of another kid. The officer probably had a choice like; use the taser, or get sued for "assaulting" or "molesting" that girl if he tried to restrain her. No telling what the details of the official policy are.

I've seen several parents who thought their perfect little angels could do no harm. One kid peed on me. His brother kicked me and instead of kicking him back or punching him I picked him up and tossed him across his front yard. Guess which kid was called a bully? Me. They couldn't have possibly done anything wrong, and certainly couldn't have started it.
