Title: Anyone heard from gunman1911?
Post by: SwoopSJ on October 17, 2008, 10:36:58 PM
Last I heard he was going to have a valve replacement, but he hasn't posted in about a month.  Has anyone been in contact with him?  Just wondering how the surgery went and if he was o.k.

M'ette,

As long as Haz is giving orders, could you look into starting a Memorial section?  A place we can post people like gunman1911.  I'm thinking of a place that would act like "headstones" that we could visit to remember those that will go on before us.

Like M'ette said, it's kind of weird to feel such a loss when it's someone you've never met...but it's still a great sense of loss none the less.
Having swapped comments with gunnman1911 (as well as you all) it doesn't take long to build a 'friendship' with kindred spirits and like-hearted good people.

So, rest in peace, gunman1911....and the next time I'm out shooting, I'll doff my hat, look to the heavens, and shake out a round in your honor.

If this appears twice, forgive, I posted and it did not show the first time, or after refreshing.

ANOTHER SHOOTER HAS LEFT THE RANGE :'(

Gman1911, was the best sort and made good, honest posts, and was great to converse with.

He messaged me back on 09/05/08 about a basket case model 700 he was trying to help a neighbor out with, ( no big surprise, considering his nature ) I tried to help, and never got a response, Now I know why.

My sympathies and prayers to the family, too young and He will be missed, I'm both happy and sad, that one of us, at least said,
" anyone heard from Gunman1911?" that shows how good this Forum is. Happy for the question, Sad for the answer.

As we say here in Texas, the 1911 is God's gun. I'm sure he will share with Gunman.

Gunman1911, please say Hi, to Uncle Jeff, Bill Jordan, Skeeter Skelton, Jim Clark Sr., Teddy Roosevelt and all the Hard Holders up there for us.

Rest in peace.

DRTV Rangers, how about a new Ranger Emeritus?

This is the saddest news I've heard in a long time. He was my brothers age give or take a year. That's just too young to be taken away from us. I was with my dad when he died in the same hospital in Petoskey. Maybe that's why this is hitting me so hard. I just wish I could have gotten to know Gunman better while he was with us. I think a memorial section is a great idea.  I had actually been thinking of suggesting this before I heard the sad news.  If a Memorial section is started I think it would be nice to post the obituary of the member  permantly  in the thread as if it is just a link, the links sometimes don't work or become inactive.  Any respnose from the members family would be nice as would the members profile as was done for Gunman and a link to their post.  A guestbook such as this thread where others can post their thoughts should be included.

At my gun club we have a plague of fame, people alive or dead that did something significant and have their names inscribed therein, an electronic/digital version of this would be quite nice here.

Simply, in remembrance or in appreciation of.

yes it has been since I was last on here before I  started my move and what a project that turned out to be. Found a place a few blocks away and contacted the people said they would "help" and would up doing most it by my self no big deal just found out how much junk I had gotten in over a year! All went well until one day I was at the storage site unloading my truck and WHAM felt like I got hit by a .500 Mag in the chest and thought to myself this is not good sit down after a few minutes the pain went way down and I got the truck unloaded and got in the car to go to pay some bills and stopped at the sawbones to make an appointment  for  ASAP . Well he made a appointment for a echo and I went and as usual I knew I should have brought my own razor( I think the get this at the bottom of the sea next to the Titanic)Well being that I work EMS I have seen echos and kinda know what to look for and did not like what I saw, two days later ole sawbones calls me and say your going to a cardiodisector. (crap) so I go to him yesterday and yep the aortic valve need to be replaced along with them using a roto rooter in one (or more) of my artires this takes place on 9-2 so I'll be of work for about a month. Boy am I gonna make that aflac duck quack!

That is not the only reason you have not seen me here the other reason is that the phone company needed to be talked to several times to get them to transfer my phone after the lied and said it would be on the 19th (which it was not) then they said it would be the 25th, guess again, yep it was to day , after I called from a phone both and b listed the lines as I had no 911 access, have bad heart problems ,a wife that is 4th stage COPD,contacted the state attorney generals office consumer affairs division and about to contact my attorney and make another complaint with the attorney general  so get off their tail and get my phone on!. But through all this I guess I'm lucky cause I did not get laid off like 100 other of my co workers did. By the way where's Hazcat?.

Quote
Well its a little  after 3 am and I sittin her on the puter (finally)and the wife wakes up and comes up behind me ,rubs my back and says "you got your nitro handy"? Well yea! Why? Well you got room in your poor tucked out heart for another great grand baby?

Unscrew the bottle for me will you. And then she walks away. HEY I have nitro and 6 refills!

Quote
Thanks to you all, I have received so much support that its overwhelming me I thought I would get online or a few and express my thanks after tomorrow it maybe the next day or next week that I'm back online, so I'm going to take advantage of this day off and hit the range and blast some bpins to pieces.Again thanks for the prayer and well wishes. As far as the nitro goes I am careful if I have gas!

Quote
Well things went well as there are no arteries blocked but the aortic valve needs to be replaced asap will see the surgeon on friday.

Quote
When I was 6 yeas old (46 years ago) my dad and uncles and aunts got me started in shooting with my dads .22 single six and my aunts bearcat(yea the original bearcat) and just had a blast with them! Then one day my uncle shows up with this single  action that was alot bigger than my dads .22. It was a .44 Magnum, and he asked my dad if he thought the boy could handle it, he just kinda laughed and said the maybe he should help, well,he put that big ol gun in my hands and told me to hang on real tight and pulled the hammer back and told me to wach the sights and pull the trigger . I did as iI was told  and the next thing I knew there was the biggest grin on my face that is still here today. Now I owen sevreal Rugers but my favaorte is my Super Redhawk that has over  250,000 rounds through it and recently I began to have some problems with opening and closing the clyinder. So I  talked to a nice lady at Ruger  about sending it in for repairs, I told her thatI had shot alot of reloads thru the gun and some were not of the mild variety( Dad told me to always be honest) and she told me to send it in. After about 2 weeks later my Super  Redhawk came back with a list of things repaired at no cost to me what so ever. They need to expand on thier commercials--- Ruger, Rugged, reliable and dependable,  WITH THE BEST SERVICE DEPARTMENT IN THE WORLD!!. Now I just got a MkII for my Great grandson to start shooting with when he turns six or seven, I know, I know he's just 18 months old but if the unfortunet  happens to me I want to leave him somthing that he can chiarish the rest of his life with no worrys. A Rugrer! or two or three or four five six.

Another insightful story:

"Close Encounters"

Quote
My first time was when I was working for a security company that had a parpmacey in River Rouge Mi. It was on the 3rd of July  and hot as hell out the store was set up in the back of the parking lot facing out with two doors  about 6 feet apart  I was close to the door about 10 feet away when I heard pop, pop, pop at first I thought it was just firecrackers and I went to the door and looked out side and saw a man in a 4 door ford with his hand out the window shooting at another car and saw the bullet stroke the driver of the other car in the head. I pulled my S&W model 10 from a flap holster and told everybody to get down and I hit the burglar alarm button  and went to the door  and started to air tne revolver up when a siren blasted  and a voice came over a load speaker for the shooter to put down his gun and I saw the gun dropped and put mine away. 6 moths later I testified what I had seen and the guy got life ,I was 20 years old and I'm 52 now I have pulled my weapon many times and had to pull he trigger twice. Its not fun. And it makes you old fast. And yes their really is the "Mark of Cain".

We rescued 2 from some people down the road they were in very poor shape as Saks had to have a vet remove the chain that had grown into her neck and both had been started all most to death which is on of the reasons we took them as they were going to shoot them both, the other one Dude was as mangy as mangy gets and with a proper diet and medicines got him back to a running dog , but unfortunately he got away one night and when I got home from work in the morning I went out to find him about 200 yards into the woods and he had lost a fight with a bear(seen the tracks) about all that was left was the coller. But Saks is a true outdoor dog that is into her years now and happy in her dog house( an old pop up trailer that she thinks is a palace) but I admit that she really needs to go on a diet(like me) she is getting so big you can barley put your arms around her and I can't help but laugh at her with those stumpy little legs. All in all get the beagle. You won't have a sad day in your life.

The place I go to is on 800 acres on state land that I and a few friends go to about once a month It has a several creeks through it a some really good camp spots but sometimes Young's come out there to raise hell and we go out thee and have to clean up their messes and sometimes they are pretty bad ones and the stat does not do much either  and we have replaced drains and fixed the roads, and bridges using what  mother nature provides but all in all the best spot we have out there is spit by a creek with fish as we camp on one side and have the get together fires and hobo dinners on the other side. There is all kinds of different vegetation and trees that all grow together  meaning it is a place of harmony and peace. Just a great place to relax and get you head together. A week out there really does the soul good. And its a good place ti hunt deer ,coyote , bear, and turkey. Got a trip planed in about 3 weeks and I got my squirrel cooker  already to go.

Very well, a quorum of Rangers having been met the vote is unanimous.

Gunman1911 is awarded the status of DRTV Ranger Emeritus.

His good works and support of others stands as an example of the ideals of the Rangers and a lofty goal for all.

Ranger Marshalette, would you please make sure the profile of  Gunman1911 is changed to reflect the appropriate status of "DRTV Ranger Emeritus".

Well everyone, this is one sad thing. In a way this is new for me. I am feeling sad about losing someone. I had shut that switch off for good reasons, but I have to admit I am sad. Losing any person on here would bother me I believe. This site has become something more than just a place for me to research guns and ask questions about guns. I have met some people on here that I honestly communicate with more than family. There are people on here that have made my life better. Through these ups and downs of the last year or so of being an active member on here, I have learned about people from all over this country and gained honest relationships. I have opened up to show people who I am and that too was something I had shut down for a while. So losing someone that was active on here that I had corresponded to more than once is loss for me. I have been working so much lately at my new job that I have not been able to get on here and write to everyone lately so this that time for to tell you all once more thank you for all of this. I must turn in for the night I have to be up at o'dark thirty but I am sure what more is added tonight will be heart felt. Thank you once again and I will talk to you all later.- Ksail101 (Kevin)

.. I've been watching this thread and hoping to see a suggestion that we contact his family, be it by card or letter.. to let them know how we feel and that they are not alone in their loss.
I think we all hope that our passing be remembered by such good folks as those on this forum. being associated with such caring and good hearted people makes me glad to be a member of this forum.
Anyway.... hard to express what I really want to say. everytime I write something it just doesn't seem right. I can do better.
Even My wife was saddened when I told her of Gunman's passing and I really wish there was more we all could do for his family, his memory.

RANGERS, All in favor say "Aye"

Hazcat - AYE

Aye.

We stayed in touch off line through occasional e mails. Dave was a good guy and will be missed.

I'll take that as an 'aye'.

Haz Emailed me to check this thread but I don't get home til 1:30 am.
I to went back through some of the old posts and want to thank Ericire.
If Marshal'ette gets an address maybe we can do an E -Card that we can all sign.

Like someone previously posted, its difficult to find the appropriate words for this situation, as none seem to truly express my feelings.  Needless to say, when I started this thread I was hoping for a completely different response.  However, we all have our designated time on this earth before being called back home.  I have not earned the title of "Top Forum Member", nor have I been dubbed a "DRTV Ranger", but for what it's worth, I too vote "aye" to Gunman1911 recieving DRTV Ranger Emeritus status.  I personally never met Gunman, but he seemed to be a man who would not wish sorrow for his friends upon his passing.  With that in mind, I will simply say farewell, you will be missed, and may you find peace and love within God's eternal arms.

Apologize for my delay getting caught up on posts. Like many here I have traded posts, tips, and jabs with Gunman1911. It seems like yesterday he was chiming in and putting in his thoughts and experience on a variety of subjects.

He will be missed, and I hope his family gets word that he had "another" family here at DRTV that will miss him.

God Bless You Gunman1911.

This is very sad news, I haven't been on the forum much lately so I wasn't aware of what was going on. Poor guy, so young too; I'll miss his posts on the forum. I wish his family the best and I'll keep them all in my thoughts.  :'(

Aye.. and profile is done.

I have the last address that he was at.. but since his phone was disconnected ..it is possible that his wife moved back to their original home town maybe close to the grandkids.  I will send a letter to this address and see if it is returned or sent on.

Reading the posts remembering gunman1911 it is almost like I have known him for years, when in fact I cannot say, for sure, I ever read a post of his.  I regret not being able to say I am a friend and know him well.  As they say in the Moose Fraternity..."Our Circle Is Broken".

I will repeat also...HE WILL BE MISSED!

Does anyone know if Gunman was a poster on any other forums?
I'm pretty sure he was on rugerforum.com under the user name gunman.
Iposted a note in the lounge section of the ruger forum to let those forum members know.

blackwolfe,

Can you browse back through the weeks on the other forum?  I'm thinking that as open as he was with us here he might have said something there as well.

Good Morning guys..........

Just got off the phone with the Funeral Home and I have information.

Sonja is very sick with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). That is a lung disease in which the lung is damaged, making it hard to breathe.
So leaving the house is hard for her because of the oxygen machine.

She has no phone and right now.. no computer
The gal I talked to said that it is very hard to communicate with her (time wise) as she has to send her notes, letters  etc in the mail. She said that she has been doing this with all the online sympathy notes that she has gotten. Just prints them off and send them to her. ( Said she had quite a few from people from a gun forum.... **way to go guys**  :-*)
I explained what we were planning and she thought that was a wonderfully nice thing to do.And she said that this lady can sure use the money to help with the bills etc.

 I have her address:

Sonja Raddatz
PO Box 680
Onaway, Michigan   49765

So..................................
Since my head is fluff with rules for this shoot... you all plan it.. Decide who you want to send the money to hold..and then send on to Sonja. Get the rules down and list them so that they are understood.....
If everyone wants to take a picture of their finished target.. and send it to me.. I will make a short video in honor of Gunman 1911 and show them here on Down Range.  (easier than filtering through the posts..)

Thats' it..
Oh yeah.. hope you enjoyed your breakfast this morning. ( a little something I whipped up for you by the campfire. :-* )  We had 28 degrees here this morning. Mother Nature had a thick glistening of frost on everything. It was crisp and with the sun waking up.. it was beautiful. You know.. despite the gloom that Obama puts on the world.............
Mother Nature and God are so good!  :)

I had Gunman's wife's Email address from a joke he sent me and copied to her so I sent her a condolence note
Quote

Ma'am,
Please accept our condolences on the loss of your husband. Dave was a frequent poster on the forum at www.DownRange.TV , while we never met him in person many of us got to know him via the internet and were deeply saddened to hear of his passing. There is a thread where many of us speak of Dave (Gunman1911) and how he will be missed, I'm not really computer literate so I don't know how to link to a thread, I got your e mail address from an old e mail that he sent to both of us, WITH your permission I would like to forward your address to the Forum Moderator so that she can send you the link to the thread.
Any way, please rest assured that you are in the thoughts and prayers of many.

M'ette and Tombogan,

Thanks for your work and passing on the info.  I can't believe how much happens on here in a few short days of absence.  I will be dropping a not to Sonja tonight, and waiting for the chance to empty lots of brass in Dave's memory to help her.

M'ette,

I'd love the breakfast you set out, but I was responsible for that meal.  My specialty is a skillet breakfast - cook several strips of bacon about 80%, add a couple shreaded potatoes, add a sliced onion about 2/3 of the way through the cooking, lay the bacon back on top, as cooking nears end push everything to one side of skillet and add eggs.  This, along with some toast, orange juice and lots of good coffee, and my arteries are hardening as I type.  I'm only allowed to do this on special days and vacations.
