I heard on the news this morning that due to intelligence reports that anticipate some terrorist actions following the election, both campaigns were called to the White House for security briefings. Also due to same the FBI has begun doing security clearance checks on members of both campaigns who are likely to hold positions in the White House, whichever candidate is elected.
This could throw a real CURVE into the election at the 11th hour if any aids in either camp have problems passing the security clearances. It could also save us from a catastrophe.
OR...it could create a huge controversy if it appears to have been politically motivated.
Stay Tuned!

Interesting...
If Barack Obama would apply for a job with the FBI or with the Secret Service, he would be disqualified because of his past association with William Ayers, a known terrorist (regardless of how long ago it was).
For this same reason, he would be disqualified from joining the military.
If he is elected President he would not qualify to be his own body guard!

I wonder how that makes the Secret Service and FBI guys feel? Any words from Walt would be worth hearing right now....

When these guys spend the night at the White House imagine the voices in the head saying "not crosshairs ... protect ... not crosshairs ... protect ..."

I have some insight on this. The agents who achieve assignment to the Presidential Protection Detail don't have time to care who they are mothering. And any spare time is spent cultivating (very) lucrative employment after they get in their 20 and go private sector.
Mac.

I didn't mean to belittle the professionalism of the Agents that are charged with protecting our elected officials and those with them. However, I can't help but wonder if it ever crosses their minds what they are involved in. My understanding is that at times these agents are privy to information that very few realize is even out there. Can you imagine the professionalism it takes to maintain in some settings with some people?

I'll happily take the first bullet as long as they go for a three shot group.

Can you just imagine BC's bodyguards jogging with him to ML's place!?

...and are just bad enough shots to have the next two barely miss you, I presume?

First one is SURE to knock me down, looks tacky when the body guards hold the principle up for a human shield ;D

They couldn't pay me enough to body guard Obama..I wouldn't do it an any price. .....No way I would take a chance on getting a bullet that had his name on it. ........I'd duck and let them shoot. ;)

Truth be told, it takes a different midset to actually take a bullet for another person. I'd take one for Mrs. T, and most likely for you, M'ette, but other than that, I'd have to consider it on a case-by-case basis. ;D ;D ;D ;D

I believe that the people in these postitions have the ability to seperate the person from the position. The are not protecting any given person, they are protecting the President, Vice President, etc. They may say or feel that they will take a bullet for a given person, but what they actually do without second guess at anytime is sacrifice all for the Nation they love and serve.

Well put.

You won't find ANY campaign that would come up with SOMEONE that wouldn't pass the background check. Depending on the position your clearance doesn't need to be that high. Hell there are Senators and Congressmen that don't have clearances, they just don't sit on commitees that would give them access to the info. In the same line, just becuase you're the President doesn't mean you have access to EVERYTHING. They just have to sanitize it so you can make a decision.

Yeah, I'm guessing that would adversely effect your Christmas bonus.
