Well, after a difficult but rewarding transition back to my home town of Ft. Lauderdale, I have discovered the town I grew up in, is not the same, and the mindset of the locals,(at least the gun owners), has changed big time in 20 years.
The park I used to "party" in is now a state of the art range, that is packed with a great bunch of folks, old and young, newbies and veterans that enjoy what we all do. I forgot my multi-tool, needed a flat head screw driver for my fore grip on my Sig 556, and had one in literally 5 seconds.
This range is large (outdoors) and goes to 100 yds, for $8.00 you get a two hour slot. Range officers are patient and polite, and everything up to a 50 BMG are allowed. Most talked Obama "zombies", and scope adjustments, but there is a large international group of Americans that want to shoot their AR variants, pistols of all types, grandpa's rifle, etc,... and don't want the "Government"
telling what they can or can't buy or shoot. Thought I would post a pic or so...

Thank you to curries, and Haz, for the advice on Fl. firearm laws. I have to take the CCW class again, but the NC reciprocity still adheres so I will have no lapse in CCW coverage. ;D
Mac, I may have left NC, but have spread the word to carry on. I have had Carolina DNA put in my blood and wont ever let it go away, nobody else gets BBQ right anyway,... ;).
Might have to change my avatar when I get one. Thanks to DRTV, Marshall and Marshal'ette, MB and all the rest who make this a great place to post like no other.
Oh, its hot down here,.... 8)

Glad to hear the move is going well.
Thanks for the pictures. Nice to see the shooting, and you know that you just saved yourself a Haz chewing ;D
One nice thing about having to pay heating bills ... we don't have to pay for A/C year round!

Looks like a great range . Hope you get settled in and all comfy..
It is very perfect weather here in Kansas right now. very nice and fall like in the day and cool and breezy at night. Windows are all open and you need a blanket to sleep.. But in a few weeks........................ I will be cussing you and your "warm " weather cause it will be ass biting cold here..
But for now I wish you well.. ;D

TW,
Welcome back!
Nice pics of your range.
Now get the location on your profile changed!
;D

As long as there are law's about how much of your clothing you can take off I'll stick with central TEXAS, and wear more clothes as it cool's down. Don't have to fight the humidity as much, easier to keep gun's and car's rust free. But welcome home anyway, and good luck.

This looks suspiciously like the range my uncle and I went to when I was visiting him in the 90's. We took his new Garand out for a test run. Destroyed the 1/4" angle iron they used to hold up the backer cardboard! And, yeah, it was HOT.
Is there a canal or swamp behind the berm? I seem to remember that...
-
In FL there's a canal or a swamp behind everything.

Jaybeth,
I'll have you know I live in the mountains in FL! I'm at least 55 feet above sea level! ;D
-
Hazcat the Mountain Man!! If you want to get up high in my town you have to go to Jackson Mountain (there's a bar there). It's a majestic 17.5 feet above sea level.
-
55 Feet Haz? Your in the mountains. I'm sitting at 13 feet and that's near the nose bleed section for Palm Beach! (unless you count the 20 story condos)
Twyacht
Maybe we can hook up some weekend and punch a hole or two in paper.

17.5 feet and they CALL it Jackson Mountain?! :o

Is it true that most low land Floridians suffer from oxygen deprivation when they climb on their roofs? ;D

TwYacht, is that Markham? I've never shot there, I usually go to Arizona in North Lauderdale and shoot indoors. I do plan on going this winter and shoot some Clays, or try to anyway.
JayBethel, I'm old enough to know Jackson Mountain as Harveys ;D It was across from the Savoy. Remember the Army Men in the window, the penny candy, and the 5 cent used comic books?
Oh, by the way, we have a mountain down here, they call it "Mt. Pompano". Several hundred feet high if I'm not mistaken.

Lakewood Park in Britton Hill, Fla. 345 ft above sea level.
There it is. The highest point in the state of Florida. The location is marked with a granite marker (practically a tombstone), and surrounded by a few picnic tables and restroom.
It is the lowest high point in the US.
Highest mountain in Florida? Sugarloaf, at 312 ft

Hello Jkwas, yes the pics are of Markham Park. It has a HUGE skeet/trap/clay range of its own, next to the rifle/pistol bldg.
I may have to explore the clay flingy thingy too. I wonder if my Rem. 870 would work.,.... ;D

Fatman,
I don't understand. First you say the highest point is 345 then you say the highest mountain is 312??
-
*Shrug* Britton Hill must be on a plateau. Or maybe at the top of a looooong slope. It's just not classified as a mountain.

As a flat-lander here in Michigan I'm sitting at an elevation of 751 feet according to Wikipedia. That's a lot lower than the mean elevation of 902 feet for the state. I guess that makes me a low-lander too, but I'm still more than twice as high as the highest mountain in Florida. No wonder there are so many swamps down there. The water probably runs downhill from other states. :)
The Porcupine Mountains are 1,958 feet and the Huron Mountains are 1,979 feet above sea level, which is the highest point in the state of Michigan. The lowest place in the state is Lake Erie at 571 ft, so the lowest point in the state is still higher than the hghest point in Florida. I never knew that and accidentally learned something today. ;D

MB is hooked up! He'll be able to go marlin fishing off his front porch.
Haz... the BAR is called Jackson Mountain. I go there when we flood.
I live in a place called Frog Hollow. You can imaging what that means.
When my wife was about to deliver my second daughter we got hit with a suprise surge from a noreaster. The coast guard took us out of my house in a zodiak boat to a high ground hotel. As it goes, she didn't deliver for another week.
Now we have big pumps and we only flood when the ocean comes over the seawall. There's nothing like fried weakfish caught off your front porch.
-
Florida makes the beautiful Flint Hills of Kansas look like mountains. :o
Of course those of us in flyover country don't look at it that way, except when the ice falls and then that driveway might as well be a mountain!
-
Ice? I have an ice maker in my fridge but are you telling me you have it delivered to your driveway??
;D
-
Lowest point in NH is 0 INCHES above Sealevel, ranges up to Mt. Washington at 6200+ ft. (about 2400 ft below MB's cellar floor ;D )
-

;D
Not only that, but they always manage to deliver it to my driveway just in time to keep the food from spoiling when the power goes out! I've always wondered how the timing is always so perfect. ???

We have a thousand square mile refrigerator/freezer 3 months a year and it doesn't cost a penny to keep all the drinks ice cold. :)
