I have the .223 itch!
But like Michael I'm also a bit of a contrarian. I served from 73 to 83 so I have have many experiences with the M16/Ar-15. It is a good weapon and fits me well, BUT everyone and his mother has one.
So I have been searching for something 'different'. Came across the BLR in .223 - not bad. Then I found something that is (to me) UBER COOL.
The Remington 7615 Tactical pump .223. Michael has a blog on it from July 17 2005 but it seems it was only for Police. Anyone know if they are for sale to the peasants (OOPS I meant public)? Anyone have any other cool .223 guns?
Gotta scratch that itch!

I'm pretty sure it is, Haz. I shot one at Gunstock a few years ago when they were just being introduced and quite liked it.

Here is the page from the Remington Website
http://www.remington.com/tactical/tactical_rifles.asp
I found prices around my area from $729.00 - $745.00

ahhh the price of the 7615 used at our shop is $650. You are prob. looking at high $7's maybe even low $8's new depending on the furniture setup (camo, black, ect.) and the % of the price increase that is comming.
By the way the $ is alot better then a good ARs in my state so i would say scratch that itch if its in your budget man.
Hope this helps man.

P.S. 7615 would look Very Cool w/ a Beta-mag...... IMHO ;D

I'm really thinking hard on this one! An EBR pump gun! That should spin some heads.
-
To be honest, that gun has left me less than impressed. Mediocre accuracy, wannabe looks, and the price tag of an entry-level AR? Thanks, I'll pass.

What's the advantage to this gun being pump?

What's the advantage to this gun being pump?
Well the reps. @ remington tell me that the idea is 50% less trianing due to the fact that the 7615 has the same controls as the 870pump + a mag and mag release button for officers. Have to tell ya being train and compentent w/ARs i didnt "get it" at first either. But a newbie hit the enlighten switch for me at the range producing excellent scores and perfect hits along with rapid confidence w/ the rifle. All this while being 100% safe and w/out a 2nd explanation of operation. After talking w/ her, the only time she shot before was as a kid w/dad at some hand throw birds. Asking what kind of shot gun she use got an " I dont remember but it was alot like this rifle". Just guessing a 870 but.... Can anyone say proof-in-the-puddin.

Another possible "plus" to this gun is that it might be available in states where ARs are still banned or heavily controlled. I think I'd prefer a Mini-14, though, unless THAT were also banned for being "evil."
Also, you could hunt with it in states where semiautos are illegal for that, such as PA.

I believe that I saw them in the CDNN catalog as well.

Correctamundo! Snake45 great point man and.....

there is another huge reason the boys and girls are luving the Remington better. Mags. The Rugers are hard to find, do to the State AWB which is still impeeding our rights, in MA. The Mini14 mags that are around STINK! They are around for a reason. All mags for the AR platform except the Beta-mags are readly available. A stash of mags are very nice to have. And the Ruger rifle w/ the cool options is not a choice. Meaning the killer-psycho-assualt goodies ;) :( :-[ :'( not ok. So the target model which is ends up costing much more $. U could always get a fixed stock no goodies AR also but the pump Rem. cover the hunting too.

Hazcat I have that info you wanted. The Remington 7615 tactical is about $689 new give or take, some dealers are spiking the price. But I had the boss man look up our cost and as weird as it may sound the tac. model is the lesser $ due to the lack of peep sights. The tactical model and fixed stock come w/ rifle sites and the Ghostring sites only on fixed stock non pistol grip @ $90 more our end. Hope this helps. By-the-by i asked what you sould be looking for if you could find a used tac. and boss anwser was $550-599. So if you dont mind reg. ol' rifle sights then you will save yourself about $100. And the colapsible stock at no extra cost shops-end. Hope I helped ya man. 8)

Tex,
You certainly did help! Wow. thanks a bunch.
I do sorta like the peeps. The model I really like is the Police model with fixed stock (14 in lop) peep sights and the pistol grip although I could easily live without the pistol grip.
Think I could install a peep on the rifle sight type pretty easy if I can't find one with peeps?
-
take a look in Brownells to see how much those Wilson peeps are going for pre gunsmithing installment charge and the factory option is well worth the extra $'s. But if it is going to get scoped or dot system, then IMHO save the coin man.
glad i could help again
