Title: Which ankle holster do you recommend?
Post by: fullautovalmet76 on October 25, 2008, 12:23:19 PM
In the latest Downrange podcast, Michael talked some about concealed carry holsters but he did not mention ankle holsters and that is understandable considering the context of that podcast.

I have a S&W 649 (shrouded hammer) and I would like to get a ankle holster for it. What are the recommendations from the DRTV community? My plan is to use the Para Carry 9 as my #1 BUG and the S&W will be my #2 BUG. Sometimes depending on the clothing and where I'm going the Carry 9 becomes the primary carry pistol. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!
George

I would not recomend an ankle hoslter unless it was your only means of carry.( IE you wear some type of pocketless jump suit for work)  They are very hard to get to, stop you from moving and put you in a very bad defensive posture.

Generally, if you can go from, threat to bang in 2-2.5 seconds, that means of carry is not right for you.

I don't see anything wrong with ankle carry for a secondary or tertiary gun. Make sure the holster fits you and is stiff enough to keep from sagging and flopping around.

Great for driving or some other activity where you are sitting a lot.

Once I got down to get the gun I would not be able to stand up.   :(

Have to defend myself from the prone positiion.   ;D

Kramer makes the best I have ever used, it's comfortable and holds the gun securely. I used mine when I was working for an armored car company as a Guard, but only as a back up to my 1911. I carried a S&W 342 PD Ti, never even felt like I had a gun on my ankle.
