So, I'm painting this Arts and crafts house today... i'm in my whites, The truck with my Company name, CL # and phone number... lots of painting eq.... is parked right in front. I have a 4" sash tool and a pot in my hand. Up walks a guy in his later fourtys wearing presteen whites, hands me a flyer and asks if I would like to have a bid on my house getting painted.

That would be the I'm Stupid sign, BTW. Like the time he locked himself out of his car, and was working the coat hanger in the driver's door to unlock it, when some one came up, watched for a minute, then asked "Lock yourself out?"
His smart ass response - "Nope, just washed the car, and I'm trying to hang it up to dry. Here's your sign.
And yes, very fetching.

WHY IN THE HELL WOULD YOU WANT TO KILL SOMEONE FOR HANDING OUT PAPER??????????

whats bad is I thought the guy was going to come up and ask where the formen was. Most of my employees are older then I am... I also look very young. Lots of guys out of work in this area... i'm getting about 2 calls a day people asking for a job. I just don't have the work. I barly have enough to keep my current employees at 40 hours aweek.

Try the EAST coast, Down in Portsmouth and the Seacoast area we got them all the way back to the 1600's.
Hope any European members are not laughing TOO hard. ;D

I didn't say I could not do it, I hate new construction... There really is no money in tracks... not like it use to be. The only real money in new constuction is in custom homes. Every one I know that was big into custom homes is hurting really bad right now.
Also I could work every day from now until retirement, in a 10 square block area in my town.
Besides, there will always be homes that need painting.

I know what you mean...I used to be a restoration contractor and worked about 5 minutes from home for the better part of 18 years. Almost all were old houses, and we've got the historic stuff going on so you can't cover them in vinyl. A painter's dream. That's why there are so many around here.

Kind of off topic but your right about the Europeans... I was in England in the 1980's and I was walking one Sunday with my host - we crossed a stone bridge and on the key stone was 1443
I stopped and just shook my head, Reg asked me what was wrong - I said nothing, other than this bridge was 300 years older than my country....
It just kind of put me back to think of the age of the bridge and what it may have "seen" in 537 years......

lets just say I am "friends" with the local historic socity... One of those, the only reason why they are alive is becuases its illegal too shoot them.
did I mention I have a lawsuit pending with them? ;D
You know its funny you say it about being a painters dream... more like night mare... Its generally 50/50 on rather I have a new guy quit some time during a lead abatement house. Scraping for weeks on end sucks.

Naples hit me like that ;D I was walking toward the Castle on liberty to go to a bar I had heard of and it hit me, Napolean walked here, and it was OLD then, Julius Caesar passed through here. DAMN :o

Are you serious? Did you read the post that I replied to? I wouldn't want to to kill anyone for handing out paper. But someone who walks up to a professional house painter WHILE HE'S PAINTING A HOUSE and asks if he wants a bid on getting his house painted is a complete waste of space on this planet. He lowers the collective IQ of a group anytime he enters a room. This moron is using up resources, like oxygen, that normal people with the ability to think could better utlize. I hope everyone that stupid earns themselves Darwin Awards. If that struck a nerve with you, then maybe you should pay attention to what someone is doing before you hand them a flyer. ;) ;D
