Title: NOVEMBER 5, 2008
Post by: Rastus on November 02, 2008, 12:06:21 AM
I'm planning on being especially vigilant on Wednesday, regardless of the outcome of the presidential race.  If I go, I've planned an alternate route to work to widely avoid areas that may be prone to either celebratory riots or riots born of frustration.

How many of ya'll have thought this through?

may want to rethink that... gas prices will be going up.

While I live in a "bubble" area, pretty isolated from areas most likely to host exuberant outbursts over the election, I will keep the radio/tv on most of the day to monitor activities.  Needless to say, Karl will be by my side and Oscar might be behind the seat in the truck just for good measure.

I live out in the country a ways....no bother there but from 25 to 30 miles from home on the way to work there is normally some exposure to areas prone to unrest.  I will be bypassing those areas........

I'm afraid it will start Wednesday & continue to escalate on Thursday & Friday. By the weekend it should be out of control & the Nat'l Guard will be called in areas. If Bho wins, then the 'brown shirts' will be called in to 'fix' things.

Just beware, Condition Red & get someone to watch your six at all times. It's gonna be a ride!

I have to drive through a likely Obama zone (Cincinnati) to get to work. Today I just completed my armed guard certification class for Ohio. I won't be able to carry on the job for a few months, mostly due to the fantastic effiency of government (any government). But, by mid-november at the latest, I will be a concealed carry permit holder (finally). I'm thinking my 220 in a safepacker, then something smaller and lighter when things calm down.

My b-day is the 5th. I hope I get the president I put on my list.  ::)

Well happy b-day & I'm sure the president will be on one kind of list or another depending on the outcome! I always keep a spare list handy - it's called the sh_t list! Seems to fill up quickest too.  :)

Unfortunately, I am going to take my "bitter gun owner" sticker off the truck for fear of vandals,
If McCain wins, angry BHO protestors may retaliate on my innocent truck. If BHO wins, the civilian security force may retaliate against my innocent truck.

I'm going to lay low and pray nothing happens (violently). But, I will be at Def-Con 1 for sure.

Especially, in FL, its a swing state again, and the BHO sign holders are on every other corner.

We had a side rifle match after the last USPSA competition for the year yesterday, and I considered it a 120 round reliability test for my EBR. Will toss it in the trunk with a few mags this week just in case. Not usually that paranoid as my threat profile is pretty low, but it may be a new world on the fifth.... :o

I usually lean toward moderate when this type of thing comes along.  However, as an old Boy Scout I still like to Be Prepared.  When Y2K was all the hype we spent a little extra time, and bought a few extra groceries, made sure the fuel tanks were full, and ran the generator just to make sure it was ready.  As of today I am not planning anything drastic, but we need to grocery shop anyway, the fuel tanks are full, my winter emergency gear is already in the vehicles along with my hunting gear (survival and first aid pack), and I will probably through the three gun gear in the back seat of the pick up just because I can.

Not planning anything overboard, but I would rather have the stuff ready if needed than get caught off guard.  Like the old saying goes - What is the only gun that will not work for self defense?  They one you don't carry.

m58, well put!

As a student of riots — I've been lucky enough to have been through several of the largest U.S. urban riots as a journalist...been beaten, gassed, arrested, etc...learned a lot — I've seen lots of people stupidly walk into something they could have easily avoided.

Not crazy about being away from home base in sketchy times, but filming schedules are what they are...lots of other people's money committed to very tight time frames. I'll go to the Ruger SR9 for the extra capacity, probably the Vang 870 with slugs/TAPS for paranoia insurance.

Yep.. we have friends that are being called out to prepare for them. That is what they have been trained for.. .but was always hoping they wouldn't have to use that training.

I have to work late that night and can't have a gun at work, even if left in the car.  I also work about 65 miles from home.  Where I work should be safe in a rual area, but I pass thru or close to some areas that I'm not sure about and close to one that has had trouble in the past.  Came close to getting caught in a multiday riot there a few years ago when I had to take a different exit then normal due to an accident. The riot had broken out that night and I didn't know about it. The other problem is I live very close to the area hospital.  More than once in the past trouble that started on the streets in other communities, then moved to the emergency room as the various sides show up for treatment or to check on others in their clan, and then out into the local neighborhood.  Can't take the day off work, but do plan on being very alert.  I do have a friend that will being monioring his scanner and will call me if he hears of any troubled areas, so I can avoid them.  Not the best plan, but it is what I have to work with.  Any idaea to improve on it?

I have emailed my kids at college, my brother, my sister and her daughters and told them hat could transpire.  They basically think I'm a paranoid, gun hugging wacko. They are in denial about all the crap out there.

Without telling you to break any rules at the job the best I can say is important all the time ...

STAY  ALERT !!!

I think the friend with your back, so to say, is a good idea.

Let's hope all goes well, and all stays calm.

For me I have the subguns tuned up and ready. The Valmet is nearby if needed. I plan to carry my Tac 4 and my Carry 9. The Carry 9 will go with me to work, though it is verboten there; I will be careful.

I keep thinking there is going to be one hell of an upset. Part of me says that everything is going to be fine, but another part of me dreads what could be coming. Fear and doubt are such powerful emotions, aren't they?

Normally faith is not invoked in these forums, but I will openly advocate it here. If any of you have any spiritual side, pray, entreat, or beg that superior being you talk to and ask for a McCain victory. Though we sure don't deserve it, ask for mercy on this one......I'm sorry if I have offended any by my comments here, but I put these words out to my fellow patriots.

Godspeed...

Faith may not seem to be expressed much on this forum, but if you look for it it is all over the place.  For a bunch of redneck assholes, we're a pretty soft bunch, and most rely on help from above.

And like the great bumper sticker says God is first, followed by our guns and Country.  Oh, and don't forget hockey.

Regardless of what happens in the coming days I believe we will survive if we keep our priorities in order.

It's already started .... I got up this AM & my computer crashed after about 10 minutes - I don't know how BHo did it, but I spent the day reloading a new hard drive (1 of 3 installed) to take up the slack. Naturally it was the main 'C' drive so no computer for the day. I lost my laptop last week to a display failure. Geez it doesn't take much to snafu me!

Tomorrow's the day! Hang in there.

Thanks for the sympathy, pal!  I started this job 4 weeks ago and haven't been paid yet.  When I complained about the f-ups with my pay and just about everything else thus far, I got the response "It's a big company, mistakes happen."  That didn't help.  I had it out with my supervisor today, who couldn't understand why I was so upset about not being paid (literally).  Now I'm the the big cry baby of the company.

And now I have to go the New York for the 2nd time in 3 weeks for them.   ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Thanks for letting me vent.

Tell them you will file slavery charges.  Walmart got convicted of that.

Same here......wife asked the same question last night at about 11:05 est.......... ;D
