Every new president, every newly seated congress, tries to pass some "signature" legislation in the first month to show the country they've "arrived"; To "assert" themselves; To "define" their terms of office; To "make good" on their campaign promises. This January will be no different. The congress and the new president will pass legislation by no later than March. But what will it be. An "energy" bill? A "trade" bill? Or "economic stimulus"? "Health care"? "Crime"? It's a sure bet they'll pass some form of gun control. Here's my take on what will be proposed and what may pass.
Medium Capacity Magazines:
An absolute ban will be proposed on magazines over 9 rounds (yes 9.....they're insidious folks). Turn'm in...no compensations for "illegal" devices. The compromise will be to ban possession of magazines over 10 rounds with such minor penalties that few people will comply. In fact that's how it'll be pitched. "Oh we're not coming after you." BUT you better not get caught with them. Thought the penalty will be a minor fine, it will bar you from possessing firearms or at least from a CCW. WHAT WILL PASS will be as before, a ban on importation and manufacture of new magazines over 10 rounds, with a twist in that current stock will have to be destroyed by manufacturers and dealers.
Ammunition:
Easy. All hard core bullets will be banned. Anything other than lead core will have to go. The insidious part here is that congress will work with the EPA to band lead bullets. Limits on the amount of ammo possessed will be passed. Probably in the range of 100 - 500 per caliber with a 1,000 round max. ARCHERS: The bill will also attempt to band solid metal shaft arrows (bolts), broad head tips and anything else that smacks of "armor piercing". SHOTGUNNERS: Those horrible slugs will have to go too. RELOADERS: They won't forget us either. They'll make sure there's no way around the ammo laws by reloading. Registration of reloaders (it's very dangerous after all) or possible restrictions on powder sales.
Firearms:
All semi-automatic rifles will be first. An outright ban will be proposed. I predict it'll boil down to a California style law with some model banned outright (AKS, ARs), others will be grandfathered in but no new manufacturing or importing. The ban will be tied to magazine capacity somehow. No it won't make sense. And shotguns will be included.
Handguns will be next. You can forget any handgun that fires shot shells for starters. How that plays with shot loaded into regular calibers is anyone's guess. I suspect there will be an attempt to define "police" handguns, which ordinary civilians will not be able to purchase. It'll boil down into a heavy restriction on polymer semi-autos and semi-autos under certain dimensions similar to current import laws.
THOSE are my predictions in the firearms area. Other areas of legislation probably will look as bad. Support NRA-ILA, SAF, JFPO.....support all RKBA organizations if you can.

My first act will be to take a couple one hundred dollar BILLS out of my wallet and PASS them to the ammo dealer.
Spose BHO would be pleased with that >:(

Q: What is the first job of the first black president?
A: Pardon OJ!

Picked the wife up from work today and she said, "However many bullets you ordered from that reloading company Monday, double the order. AND [emphasis mine] go into debt if need be, but buy whatever guns you want to have, now. And buy more ammo."
LOVE THAT WOMAN.

he will spend atleast the 1st 6 months "fixing" the econ... he won't have time for anything else. If he fails to do that( and I really doubt anyone can fix the econ in 6 months) Watch for his numbers to drop like a rock.
-
And you can add a vindictive excise tax like Pittman-Robertson but instead of funding positive shooting projects. It will be used for bullet serialization, a nation wide ballistic finger print system and the new Freedom Confiscation Corps!

Even if he does fix the economy that brings us up to the "test" Biden warned about.
-
I really don't think anyone can fix the econ in 6 months.
Then again. I also don't think it really needs to be fixed.
While yes, there is alot of bad things happening right now, There is also alot of good.

The economy CAN be fixed easily in 6 months, all you have to do is keep the GD politicians from messing with it, of course if we could do THAT little trick it wouldn't need fixing to begin with.
Seriously, no Democrat will EVER improve the economy, FDR Truman and Kennedy all got us into wars to do it but war doesn't work that way anymore. The stuff is to expensive, takes to long to build and gets used up to quickly, and the manufacture of war material is now to specialized for overnight elimination of unemployment.
Can you imagine building a Carrier in one month ? During WWII that's how long it took to build the big fleet carriers, the little "Jeep" carriers? Kiaser was able to build one in a WEEK, Liberty ship build times were measured in HOURS.(36 I think )

I didn't forget about those things. They will be part of the hubris surrounding the gun control issue. However, the ultimate goal is outright ban and confiscation of all privately held firearms. Making it more expensive to own and shoot them certainly would be a move toward that goal, but the real path they will go down is "divide and conquer." Hence, the outright banning of at least some guns and ammunition, and the creation of a central registry are going to be the priority legislation AND the most damaging. I think they'll go right for the jugular. Excise tax, tagging, & bullet fingerprinting are all red herrings. They will propose them but throw them out to show how they're willing to "compromise" while stabbing us in the back with the other legislation.
Folks, this congress will be going for our jugular!

The biggest question when it comes to "fixing" the economy in any amount of time is what is the fix going to look like? September 11, 2001 was the trigger that brought on the correction to the "e stocks" that had been forecast and warned about. Many thought the world was coming to an end, but things have survived since.
Now we have had the wake up call from the sub prime lending. There is a lot of goofy stuff going on that does not need to go on, and I believe we are also seeing the the effects of too many inexperienced and uneducated investors messing with their 401K's.
I fear that Mr. McCain's claim that the markets are still fundamentally sound may be closer to the truth than the plans rushed through earlier and what BHO and his team might have in mind. If all we get is a quick feel good thing that masks things for a little, the Sesame Street Generation will get their instant gratification and lose track of the long term.
Remember that the sub prime mess started with a liberal plan many years ago and just erupted after several years of rumbling. What do you think a liberal, socialist leadership is going to do with it?
