Title: I'm in on the buying frenzy. Anybody else.
Post by: alfsauve on November 07, 2008, 04:34:22 PM
LOVE my Wife.  Without prompting she says, "Dear, stock up.  Guns, ammo, reloading."

Monday, I purchase about $450 of bullets and brass.

Today (my half day off), she reminds me to go get "guns".   I've made out a list.   It's not extensive.  I'm not going to buy just for the sake of buying.  I want things I'll use and enjoy.  So  -o-o-o-o-o

I added a Springfield XD-9....they seem to be a really good buy.  Included holster, dual mag holster & 2 fifteen round mags (not for resale in CA!......love it.)

Ordered a Savage MKII (.22lr) with thumbhole stock (sniper 22)
Ordered a A4 20" varmint upper for my Eagle A2 (back ordered don't'ch know)
Lots of ammo

She's calls from work and asked how much.   "You sittin down, Dear?"  i asked.  "$2k"
"That's all?" was her reply.   Love that gal.

I'm not sure what's next.   No need to rush out for the revolvers or bolt action rifles and I don't want to pay "frenzy" prices for another complete AR.     Maybe another XD.  Or maybe, if prices don't go through the roof, I will get an AR lower so I have to complete ARs, one A2 match and an A4 Varmint.

Sitting here tonight, I'm thinking accessories, while she's holding the pocket book open.   Scopes, fiber optic and, halo sights, a few magazines, a second powder measure, hm-m-m-m-m  have to go look at my MidwayUSA wish list.   I could go do the second NRA pistol course so I can work my way to instructor.

Does that wife of yours have a younger really good looking unmarried sister?   :D

Actually, some of my stuff is just now rolling in - upper yesterday, backordered brass finally being shipped, batteries (at 7:30AM - thanks for ringing the doorbell that early, FedEx!!! It's not like I have a 2-year old sleeping here or nothing. >:(

Did most of my splurgin a while ago - have a box of brass I can barely lift, some bullets, dies, etc. - And I haven't even started to learn how to load yet, need to learn how this winter.

Not good on food though, working on that. Got the giant med kit re-stocked - some of the supplies expired a while back - like 6 years ago! Oops.

Hey I already asked something like that in another thread.  She doesn't even need to be younger or good looking.

Well now, I got 1K .45 put back and plan to buy 1K .38 spl. tomorrow at a GS.  I have 2+K .45 bullets and brass sitting around.  I will be looking for an AR...hope I didn't wait too long!  Maybe a 10-22.  On the list for a LCP.  Next week I hope to pick up a used Para P16 and a new Kimber 9mm.  Am looking for an 870 shorty w/adj. sights.  Do I qualify?

Richard

PS:  Maybe a case of .223 if it's out there!  Oh, and maybe some AR mags/clips whatever (are you there Haz?)

Forgot to add earlier that I have some mags coming, some on backorder, still checking on others.  Money kind of tight right now or I would have bought them ealier.  Would love to have a Spingfield M1A.  Need to get into reloading.  Have some ammo already.

Look at the M1.  I have an M2 and an M1 and they shoot the same.  However, the M1 saves some cash and has been easier to come by in the black models.

About an hour ago my sweet bride asked what hours I work tomorrow.  When I replied that I have the day off said, "I assume you're going to the gun store tomorrow, in that case?"  When I said yes, she said, "Good!  Do NOT come home empty-handed!"

I SO married out of my league!!

I haven't bought anything gun related in over three months except for a few boxes of hunting shells.  I had been holding out to get a rifle and shotgun for SASS, but I don't think we need to worry about availability there for a while.

My problem now is which way to head.  What is the wisest choice based on what could possibly happen.  I'm not saying I'm throwing in the towel of accepting any bans or elimination.  However, we know the odds are such that we will fight the same battles we did during Billy's years.

I feel like a kid with a shit load of choices available, but only a small part of a shit load to spend, and a limit on how long to take to make the decision before the magic curtain closes  ???  Up until now I could buy something and a week from now, a month from now or a year from now the others would still be there.

Just bought a Romanian AK earlier today so my M&P 15T will have a playmate.   ;D  Getting ready to order 1k of both .223 and 7.62x39 ammo and some hi capacity mags.  I just got rid of a DPMS AP4 .308, so I'm considering buying a "long range" AR in .223.  (Darn .308 ammo was just to expensive for me to justify when I can have just as much fun with less expense shooting .223.)  Anybody have any suggestions for a varmint type AR.  I've looked at Rock River and DPMS, but I don't know which would be better.  Rock River rates theirs at 3/4 MOA, but I can't find any such info on the DPMS.  I'm also open to suggestions regarding other manufactures if someone would care to chime in and help my indecisiveness.

This may be my last chance to get a Carbon-15 pistol so I think I better act fast. It's one of the most politically-incorrect guns there is and has been at the top of my wish list for years. There are a few other guns I want but I'll wait to get them. I'm not even going to try getting a machinegun because I can't afford it.

I'd go with Rock River if available.  From what I've seen they are top notch. It may come down to what you can find.  Looks like prices are going up and availablity going down.  A lot of places are out of mags already.

It's nuts out there!  I stopped by my favorite local gun store after work and the place was packed!  Almost couldn't find a parking place.  The AR rack looked like a gap-toothed hillbilly.  The pistol cases were looking pretty well picked over - even the higher end stuff was moving fast.  When I made my way to the checkout counter (with my rifle case) it looked like half of the store was behind the counter waiting for pick up.  Back ground checks were running 3-4 hours instead of the normal 30 minutes.  I bet it's only going to be worse on Saturday.

The gun show set an all time record here in Dallas/Ft Worth for a single day attendance, ;D AR15 anything was flying out the door, and my friend there said every other person had 1,000 round case of .223. I stocked up on supplies, 1,000 hornaday 52 grn match bullets, which my shorty loves, 5,000 small rifle primers, 100 hornaday 300 grn, .44 xtp bullets, 50, 30-30 cases, 100 golden sabre 165 grn, 10mm bullets, and 50, Wolf 12 guage reduced recoil slugs. ;) I stocked up years ago on loaded ammo, and this prevents me from digging into the primary stash. I also have a lot of powder from the old days, but since I'm back into competition, I need Federal small pistol primers, >:( I have plenty of WW, CCI for everything else, but a revolver shooter needs his or her Federal primers, I'm down to 6,000 and in match shooting, that don't last long. I also ordered 2 more 27 round mags for my CZ V22 .22rf conversion for the AR, as luck would have it, he is having a sale, and I saved 5 bucks on each mag, ;D which more than paid for the shipping.

Ar's were up 100 to 150 bucks across the board,  ;)but the only guy who had lowers left was asking, 160.00 for a naked Dpms lower, up 40% from 2 months ago.  >:(Mags were going for 17.00 to 24.00 for magpul Pmags, with the window. Glock mags were 20.00+. Which reminds me, I need to get at least 5 more mags for my Para, P14. Look at your inventory, and which guns you don't have at least 10 standard capacity mags for, and get them now. ;)

I was wanting to buy an AR10 lower and do the slow build on it, but after reading m58 and texguns thread, I really don't need a rifle that takes hard to get and expensive magazines :(. I already have 2 M1a's and 35-40 mags.  ;D

Made the rounds at a local GS yesterday.  AR's aren't up in this area...many of the lower cost ones are gone!  It was a real ZOO with a lot of $$$$'s changing hands.  Didn't do as well as expected.  Will try again next week.

Our local GS isn't for another month or so, hopefully the frenzy will have died down a bit. We'll see.

I stopped by one of the local gunshops yesterday, the only non-big-box-type, and he said sales have been brisk, but that has been true for months, ever since "don't mention my middle name" appeared to be a serious candidate. The gun shop's AR rack was full, and he has more in the queue, so maybe you guys with shortages can call them and ask about doing a transfer. The shop is the Outdoorsman in Fargo, ND. Nice place, good people, family owned business. Rack full of bolt action rifles too. Forgot to check the pistols - the 2-year old cutie was looking at the binoculars in the lower case and kept calling me to show me the treasures - and the rocks and "trees" (fake plants in the display case). If you call, tell 'em Pathfinder sent you.  ;)

Prices are going up, he's out of DPMS stripped lowers, and the next ones coming in are Aero Specialties (??) for $30 more than the DPMS which were $130.

Kinda dissappointed...struck out at the last 2 GS's....S..T stuff is scarse or too expensive!!!!!  Guess I'll settle for a lower, stripped or otherwise if I can find what I want.  Case ammo is getting short too!.

Well, I was planning on buying another AR, but I can't decide which variation I would like and I refuse to make a decision based on fear of time running out.  Thought about buying a couple lowers so I wouldn't have to worry about the time issue until I saw stripped Stag lowers going for upto 250 on GB.   :o  I believe I'll just wait out the buying frenzy when prices return to normal, or atleast become somewhat reasonable.  I have an M&P 15T already, so if BHO beats me to the punch I've still got my "evil" black rifle.

I called Del-Ton last week to order an AR15, all I got of course was a busy signal. I then went on their website to order the Del-ton   16" DTI-4 Rifle. My order was accepted, but after the email, nothing further from Del-Ton, so today I went to their site again, there was a notice that it would take 8 - 12 weeks to process orders. I will just have to hurry up and wait.

It's gotta be that hat alfsauve,

ABOUT THE HAT:   Several years back I was paid to model Halloween costumes for a very early morning TV show, promo'ing a local costume shop.   That's were the rather bad, taken off the air, picture came from.      Not generally a hat person, though I have my Indiana Jones wide brim which I wear in inclement weather.  Took it to NY and got picked up by two girls at the airport.  Wife won't let me wear it anymore unless she's with me.

Ok as I stated earlier, I would share findings after I got my fill, so here go's. These were for my less popular pistols, but need to know none the less.

1) Bought 8, 15 round, Para p14 mags from CDNN investments for 29.99 apiece + tax, as I live in Texas, retail is 54.00, if you have a P14, get'em now.

2) REALLY obscure but maybe some good info, I have a Marvel 1911 conversion to .22rf, it comes with COLT ACE magazines, these are 75 bucks when you can find them, and 10 rd capacity, I read on another forum that Ceiner .22rf mags would work, as I also had a Ceiner conversion for 1911, I tried them and it did indeed work. Now Brownell's has dropped all Ceiner products, as he is a Dick, I understand this. Midway still carries them however, but if you just search Ceiner magazines, all it will bring up are the 10 round mags, but if you go to Ceiner .22 conversion, it will bring up the conversion units, and the 15 round .22 mags.  My gunsmith price for the Ceiner mags was 35 from Brownell's, but Midway is the same price for anyone, of course these also work in Ceiner products, Dahhh.

3) Bought 1 extra STI mag off of gunbroker, full price but available, not jacked up. After you get yours, let me know. That is in .38 super, others were still available.

4) Cdnn still had some LE marked Glock mags, I got 2 for the model 20. $19.99

5) Much more obscure, My Caspian 9mm/.38 super mags, bought 3 used 19 round mags for 62.00 on gunbroker, good deal. you gotta hunt, but We can share, after you have had your fill.
