Title: The DRTV Forum Gunman1911 Postal Match
Post by: Marshal Halloway on November 09, 2008, 11:55:37 AM
David Raddatz  from Onaway  Michigan died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008. David was known by all of us here at Down Range as Gunman 1911 (http://www.downrange.tv/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1838).

Without meeting this man, we all soon considered him a friend. Because of the man he was and in honor of him.. members on the Down Range Forum decided to have a Gunman 1911 Postal Match.

All proceeds will be sent to his wife, Sonja.

General:

Any caliber up to (not including) 50 BMG.

Scoring:
Smallest group (5 rounds)

Closest group to center (5 rounds)

Measured from outside edge of bullet hole. This could be the same group / target as the winner of both.

Classes:

1A: Rifle at 50 yards - Open Sights - Shooting Style Off Hand

1B: Rifle at 50 yards - Open Sights - Shooting Style Bench Rest

2A: Rifle at 100 yards - Optics including red dot - Shooting Style Off Hand

G'man woulda loved it. ;)

No... He WILL love it.  :)

Trust me when I say this............
He will pop in and  be there every single time each of us shoots our target.
And he will be dragging a few of his buddies from the other side to watch and brag. ;D

They ( on the other side) do so love it when there is a celebration or event to attend 'here'..

This was a great idea..
Haven't heard back from Sonja yet..
I e-mailed her.. Don't know if she got it.. Sent it with a receipt attached..but so far nothing. Hope she is okay.

Tom..since she has answered you before, would you please e-mail her and have her get back with me?
Thanks...

Printed targets, but got busy and never made it to the range before getting tied up cleaning a 9 point deer my son killed.
Maybe later this week.

My first attempt.   I couldn't quite get my eyes to focus perfectly on the indoor range, so I may try again on an outdoor range next week.   Rifle next week too.

Don't you just love that Buckmark?
If it quits raining, I'm going to try to get to the range myself with mine.

RE:  Buck Mark.   HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I had been wanting to retire my MK I and at the same time not buy another Ruger.   The BM feels good and obviously shoots well.   This was with standard iron sights.  No FO or Holo or red dot.  Mines the URX Contour.  I like the looks of it, though now I'm not certain I'll put any optics on it.  Still the full length mounting rail looks good.

I didn't have the right combination of contacts and shooting glasses for indoor shooting so my front sight wasn't all that in focus.  Next week, I'll go to an outdoor range and try again.    I'm also going to see what my 686 w/ 8-3/8" barrel will do at 25yds with .38spl wadcutters.

Wifey and I went out yesterday to generate some entries. I got a target with my 1911 (here's to YOU Gunman1911) and amazingly I got a better target with the MB M&P. She got one nice group with her S&W 686, then the weather just got SO bad we had to bail.  The targets got all wrinkled and soaked from the cold, 100% humidity.
We'll go back and try it again when the weather clears.

It's nice to have a good reason to punch paper.

Okay guys and gals.  Let's start sending in the entries.   Went to the outdoor range.  Gusts at 15mph.   :-[  Wouldn't have been bad except they use target carriers hanging from a wire.  So not only were they swinging wildly at times but bouncing up and down as well.   [long sigh]  Shooting between gusts these are my best ones.  Also improved on my 10yard BuckMark target.  Being outdoors definitely helps my tired old eyes.

Post by: alfsauve on November 22, 2008, 08:09:57 PM
It was off of bags so not that big a deal.   It does look like six.   If you look carefully at the original you see there's only 5 "rings".  That part between the triangle just got torn out.   This isn't true "target grade" paper. Just 20# copier paper.

I doubt mine will arrive by December 1st (been tied up with my father-in-law's funeral out of town), but I'm sending the targets and money anyway because it's for a good cause.
I didn't even have time to go to the range, just set up a box with targets down on the back-forty and blasted five shots off-hand.

Ugly groups I tell ya....ugly....... ;D
Title: Don't forget to mail your targets today.
Post by: alfsauve on November 29, 2008, 09:26:04 AM
Hey it's for a good cause.   You could just mail in a contribution.

The deadline for MAILING is Monday.

Below is Friday's results from sandbags.  I measure the group as .62"!

Now here's the good news.     It's not on the "approved" target for this match so you don't have to compete against this group.  I already mailed mine in anyway.

Nice grouping, Alf.
I have a single shot .223 that will almost do that with the right ammo (if I do my part).

Mine are in. Due to the unexpected death of my printer, and delayed delivery of my DC v. Heller S&W, I submitted an "artist's rendition" of what my targets MIGHT look like, if I were a great marksman (artistic license). For a good cause.

It looks like I'l JUST get a few targets into the mail by monday. It's been really hard to get to the range with the weather and all, but we had a pretty nice day today so we went out and shot for awhile till the Mrs couldn't feel her hands anymore. That's when I usually can shoot a little better than her.

My Buckmark Target model will shoot sub-1" groups......I can not (offhand, that is  ;D).

One of the targets I sent in had a perfect group going into the center (3 shots) then I yanked 2 out side the center. It was cold and windy and I was shooting offhanded.........oh well, excuses, excuses.... ;D

No laughing, now.....

Maybe M'ette will post one of mine.  I shot 6 rounds (accidentily).  I had a misfire on a reload and just through it down range, it hit low to the left by about 3 inches.  Then I made a ragged hole in the dead center with the next 4 and the last I through about 1 inch high to the right.  Damn good target for me.  It was with my Redhawk 5.5 45 at 10 yards off hand!

As a member of the Order of the Longleaf Pine, I exercise my authority, with all due deliberation, to take poetic license with the State toast:

Here's from the land

of the long leaf pine,

The summer land

Where the sun doth shine,

Where the weak grow strong

and the strong grow great,

Here's to Gunman 1911,

from the Old North State!

And to the rest of the participants as well, worthy friends, all.

Merry Christmas.
Mac.

We couldn't get a break with the weather....every time we could get out it would blow hard or rain or something uncomfortable, so finally I got out the 1911 and said my piece to Gunman and fired my five. I just wish he had helped me aim.

As far as Maggie goes...at the range the comment is always, "Well, I won't be sneakin' around YOUR house". She's often a better shot than me. We just wish we could have shot more targets in more classes.

About the same here.
It had been a long couple of weeks when I finally got around to shooting at the targets I had printed off two weeks earlier. My wife was just getting back to normal after having surgery and then her father took a turn for the worse (COPD) and passed away the week before Thanksgiving.
The weather was cold and windy (gusts to 30 mph) so I just took the rhino down to my target stands and threw a couple of targets up and popped five into each one as fast as I could. Not my best shooting, but it was for a good reason.

So, Here's to Gunman1911.

Maybe one day I'll get around to showing y'all what my pistols will do.   ;)
