NRA: Obama's election spawns 'gun run'
Chad Groening and Jody Brown - OneNewsNow - 11/11/2008 6:00:00 AM
The National Rifle Association predicts the election of Barack Obama is going to pose a serious threat to the Second Amendment rights of American citizens.
Numerous reports around the U.S. indicate that citizens have been racing to purchase both guns and ammunition before Obama takes office next year. On Election Day, a Cheyenne, Wyoming, gun store set a one-day sales record -- then broke that record the next day. The Franklin Gun Shop outside Nashville sold more than 70 guns on Election Day. It was the biggest sales day since opening its doors eight years ago.
The day after Obama was elected, the owner of a shop outside Salt Lake City sold nine assault weapons -- and another gun store owner in Fort Worth reported sales of $101,000 in merchandise, shattering its single-day sales record.
NRA spokewoman Rachel Parsons has a theory on the gun run. It is quite apparent, she says, that people are concerned that Obama truly has had a radical record of opposition to the Second Amendment.
"They're concerned about their Second Amendment rights, and they're purchasing firearms...maybe while they still have the chance," she conjectures. "They know that it's very likely that when president-elect Obama gets into the White House, he and those who he has appointed to leadership, who are also anti-gun, may indeed attack the Second Amendment."
During the campaign, the NRA ran advertisements saying Obama "would be the most anti-gun president in American history." And the president-elect's voting record on gun rights, says Parson, backs that up.
"He's supported gun bans, ammunition bans. He's supported a tax increase on guns and ammunition. He has voted against self-defense in the home when he was in the Illinois State Senate," she emphasizes. "Over and over, Barack Obama has voted against the Second Amendment."
The NRA spokeswoman suggests it is likely those votes will follow him into the White House. So she says it will take a grassroots effort by those who support the Constitution to prevent president-elect Obama from destroying Americans' Second Amendment rights.

Its all supply and demand... low supply, huge demand.
I remember when CA 1st emplemented the safe handling demo crap( working at a FFL at the time) the last day to buy a hand gun was dec 20th. We sold 200 some odd hand guns that day... we had a line around the block.

At the risk of sounding like Tom, and possibly getting booted from this forum, I am done putting up with you - avatars or no.
TAB you are an idiot! It is NOT supply and demand, it is b-ho and his proven history of gun-grabbing and his neo socialist (read neo-communist) politics, and the very real threat that he will destroy what little is left of this country's Constitution in his drive to make us just another 3rd world country kowtowing to the UN.
And if he doesn't (and he doesn't have to) Pelosi, Feinstein, Boxer and the other left coast idiots (plus assorted others across the country) will do the heavy lifting for him, and all he has to do is sign the bills looking "presidential" and talking about "common sense this and that".
The Three M's (Michael, Marshal and M'ette) - and anyone who may have been offended - please forgive my profanity. This guy is a bridge short of a site troll.

There have been any number of idiots and bimbos on TV and radio (I refuse to call it news) saying anything from that it's anything from people fearful because the economy is in the tank, to a dem politician saying the buying frenzy is being orchestrated by the NRA and gun shop owners. A few have actually said the fear is bHo will take are guns. I wonder if some of these "news" speakers and politicians have bothered to read any blogs or forums to see what we really think.

do you know what supply and demand is? The supply has stayed static... the demand has increased... econ 101... when supply stays static and demand increases costs go up.

I agree with Path on this. And Obama's very real interest in executive orders should worry everyone, he wants to know or try what he can do now, PERSONALLY, WITH THE STROKE OF A PIN. Executive order is one of the presidents only true powers. From my dwindling memory, that has to do with foreign trade and treaty. No congressional approval needed. War powers act included.
Supply has not been low since the sunset of the AWB, until 6 months ago, and it wasn't real bad until a week or two ago. Millions of Ar's and Ak's have been sold in the last several years, and it is up by only 15% in the last few weeks, of course that is huge. Now as of 2 weeks ago, the demand is huge, unlike 86 and 92, the suppliers were ready. And they are still pumping them out, since Stag is one of the largest suppliers of upper and lower receivers, for everyone, it falls on them and shame on the builders who sublet to one manufacturer however good, for supply. If you want a lower NOW, go ahead and go to sundevil, or some of the individual lower makers, who make a superior product right here at home and already had premium prices for premium parts. I bet they have not gone up that much.

I agree with Pathfinder. This supply and demand thing doesn't apply to this. And yes I know about supply and demand and econ. 101.. blah blah.. The reason why ammo and guns are going up are Obama, fear of an AWB, and loss of gun rights in general. That's common "gun" sense 101. Especially, if one is truely a gunlover and knows what is going on in most of America and not some "crazy liberal-non-representative of the rest of the country part- like California for example. I have been to various gunstores and gunshows in the last two weeks and everyone I've talked to says the same thing. They are buying any and everything they can now (mostly Ak's/AR's/ Handguns/Ammo) because they think they won't be able to get them later when Obama is president. It's that simple.

which has increased demand... we don't know if there is going to be another AWB or not... that is up to congress, not Obama. The worst obama can do on his own is stop imports of guns and ammo.

See TAB, I'm not the only one who thinks your an a$$hole. ;D
Love to hear the Chiefs version of your accident. ;D

Well, maybe you're right about TAB, but ammo was skyrocketing before Obama was the candidate....remember?
This buying frenzy is due to his election and his choices of obviously gun grabbing helpers. But the ammo was going up anyway because of (you may recall all of this) the prices of metals going through the roof, the WARS sucking up production, etc. etc.
The cost of the guns are going up because they can't keep them on the shelves. Sorry...that is "supply and demand".
-
Hate to rub this in...but the new AR-15 and AR-10 I picked up after the election did not have the prices jacked up. Just goes to show that if you can find a reputable arms merchant in town you need to patronize him. The guys that were a few bucks cheaper on a gun....jacked up the price a bunch. A friend asked a store here in Tulsa to hold an M&P AR for him....when he got there it was $300 more than when he called them just a few hours before. They eventually honored the price...but only after he got rude and after they tried to switch a lesser gun on him.

I disagree. If John McCain would have been elected, there wouldn't have been this mad dash to get AR's, AK's, handguns, and ammo over this last week. It didn't have anything to do with the supply. There was plenty. Everyone had guns and magazines for sell. Obama gets elected and everything sells out in a hurry. Some of these gun dealers are price-gouging. This give some people a reason to say, "Oh see that's supply and demand.. the demand is so high we sell out and have to raise the price, because it's supply and demand." No, it's because of Obama and people trying to make a buck. Obama made the price go up, not the normal "supply and demand" of gun sales in general. Roll back the clock a week and look at your supply and demand.. and then look what happened every day since.
-
Some of these gun dealers are price-gouging
I have to agree with this.. but then some of these dealers are running low because they did not plan for this amount of sales. the guns are probably available to them, but it will take time because of - supply and demand- maybe not the reason the prices have gone up, but if you can raise the price when the demand is up (gouging) then you can make more $ and blame it on lack of supply. I bet if you go to a dealer that has no ARs he can get it, tomorrow, for a price.. but then isn't this the way the stock market works? people want something they'll pay more for it, and in a panic they'll sell cheap.

??? O K guys you need to chill out .. I know we have our opinons , but please lets keep it civil . By leting someone get your goat just gives them more ammo ....

Breathe everyone.. nice and easy... breathe innnnnnn....breathe ouuuuttttt..
There...... 8)
Now I am usually the first one to jump on a debating bandwagon.... but...someone has to stay calm here.. :)..........
I think it is actually 99% of B-HO..but that also inadvertently puts a demand on the supply of the guns. That's just a no brainier logical fact.
Brand new guns are, in fact the ones that are getting tight to get. And AW's are just flying out the door faster than bumblebees on cocaine. The manufacturers didn't look and plan for this enough. One company told us that they have had one million orders/sales already this year. A huge part of that has happened in the last 3 months. They NEVER EVER thought it would be this frantic. But it is.. and it isn't slowing down. Same on ammo.
Derek is having record breaking HUGE HUGE HUGE sales and has 100 auctions up now and is working on putting 100 more up before the weekend. He is having people drive from Ks City and other cities to see what he has and they are buying on the spot before he even gets them logged in. ..he isn't having any trouble getting guns ..but they are going out faster than he can keep up. **Note** He is not gouging or changing prices at all from what he normally does business as.. :)
( He comes from good honest stock ;) )
I ask him what he thought and he said EVERYONE is buying because of Obama. That everyone he talks to is scrambling because of the Democrats and Obama..
He had 147 phone calls on Monday and averages about 80-100 every day since the Obaminator was elected.
Guess that tells you something.
-
it seems like the gun owners that voted for Obama don't trust him, now that's funny. If they voted for him there should be no rush to buy. Right something wrong with this picture Vote for Obama and run to buy everything before he can act on the 2nd amendment now that is PURE BS. You wanted change but you don't trust him on gun control what else don't you trust, maybe you should have thought before you voted for him :'(

Poor old TAB... I just threw that, "Maybe you're right about TAB" thing in because someone is always bagging on him. Joke. Not very funny, but....joke.
Supply and demand: I think we're confusing mechansims with causes. Changes to the balance of supply and demand are CAUSED by things, in this case, the election of BHO. For whatever reason (BHO) demand has changed...it has increased 100 fold. THAT has affected the supply by making guns and ammo more scarce. When there's a giant demand for scarce goods, the price goes up and that is not necessarily price gouging, although there are probably a few dealers up to no good.
So that's supply and demand working. Now when the manufacturers tool up and start making 200% more guns and ammo and everyone spends all their money there will be a lower demand and a large backup supply. If they're not selling the price will go down, and that is not necessarily just generosity (the opposite of price gouging), it's just Supply and Demand
We can and should blame the election of BHO for what is happening, but it's definitely supply and demand. When a huge storm ruins the orange harvest and there's not enough orange juice for the demand, guess what? The price goes up.
We can screech all we want about BHO...it's the panic buying that's causing shortages.

I'm just curious ??? Did this same thing happen at any time when the clintons were in office or after his relection. I don't seem to remember this kind of buying frenzy

It did in my home town.
I had just bought a used Mini-14 for $275 and the next week they were selling for twice that. AR's and AK's and SKS's too.
The prices did ease back down after a while, though never to what they were.
There are too many contributing factors at play to point the finger at any one cause.
BHO is/was the trigger, but supply and demand, fear-mongering, and outright greed are also deeply involved.

I just got home from visiting a couple gun shops. Won't tell you what I did, because some furball would scream stuff like "where's the porn?"
I saw very little action in gun sales (about the same as any other time I'm there), and the sales staff said they have had a lot of lookers, but no increase in buyers. Their stock is as good as usual. The staff did say that the questions mostly come from people that don't understand guns, and a lot of basic knowledge questions. Salesman I know well told me he wished they would see some of the crazy sales the media is reporting, because he needs to fund a few hunting trips this winter.
The busy part was ammo. About three times the usual activity, and almost everyone had shopping lists. They would work down their list, and I'm assuming they were at the cash limit when they either flat out quit or put a couple boxes back. Supply was low in some areas. 9x19 (luger) was almost gone. I wanted four 250 packs of yellow box UMC, and all they had was one and two 100 packs. No other inexpensive stuff, and not much spendy choices. .223 ammo coming out the ears and price hasn't changed in the last two months.

This is TAB we're talking about. If you don't understand what I mean go to his profile click on view posts of this member and read till YOU start using those words. 2 pages should do it. Bear in mind, even the avatars did not keep Pathfinder or I from losing patience with him. And let's face it, those avatars were some "well rounded" arguments in favor of patience ;D But when it comes to politics he's a troll.
