I'm sure that many of you have already heard this, but I like it and think more should hear it this way.

To better understand the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution it is helpful to consider how almost every reasonable person would interpret this amendment if it did not involve something which is considered controversial or politically incorrect by some and idolized by others. Arms in the possession of ordinary citizens meet both criteria. Let's, for the sake of argument, suppose that the Second Amendment dealt with books, not arms or weapons, and read like this: "A well educated electorate, being necessary to the maintenance of a free State, the right of the people to own and read books, shall not be infringed." Does anyone really believe that liberals would claim that only people who were eligible to vote should be allowed to buy and read books? Or that a person should have to have voted in the last election before the government would permit him or her to buy a book? Would the importation of books be banned if they did not meet an "educational purpose" test? Would some States limit citizens to buying "one book a month"? Would inflammatory "assault books" be banned in California?

MB and Tom Gresham have both raised the same question in the lead up to the Heller case.
And liberals DO try to control books, look for Tom Sawyer, or Huckleberry Finn in School libraries if you don't believe me.
Anybody old enough to remember the "Uncle Remus" stories before Disney edited them for the hard to find "Song of The South", remember the ORIGINAL name of the Denny's chain ?

I had forgotten the original name. I have to admit though, that it wasn't the best name they could have picked. As for burning books, I stand in the same place on that as I do with the 2nd Amendment!

That stuff always cracks me up.

What the heck are you on about now, TAB? Clarification: I mean thought-wise, not substance-wise.

So why do you hang out here ? I, personally prefer to avoid as much as possible people I think are hypocrites, as do most people I know.

Wow. Do you guys remember the storyof the little boy that made a tiger chase him around a tree until he turned to butter and the boy ate him on his pancakes? Yes, Little Black Sambo. He was little, he was named Sambo, and as a child it was my favorite book. That kid was my hero. Quick-witted, unafraid and saved a mess of people. The book was banned, Negroes (that was their name of choice in those days) took offense at the story.
Funny part? He wasn't African American. The title character was in fact - Indian. But truth be damned, book was banned to appease the libs. The book is back in print and is a favorite of my kids, who think Sambo is a hero. His skin hue? They couldn't care less. Something about a tale of kid outwitting a killer tiger has universal appeal that survives the silliness of the race-baiting censors.

Yep, that's the one ;D Surprised they got a publisher with guts enough to bring it back.

I still have a little stuffed tiger somewhere in my trappings of youth from the Sambo's restaurant that was in my hometown....many years ago when I was a kid.

I remember Sambo's restaurant in Santa Barbara, Cal. I believe it was the last one. haven't been back to Ca. in a long time and don't know if it's still there or not.

We were traveling a couple years ago, and at my age I can't remember where right now. However, we came across a Sambos. We stopped and ate. It was just like I remembered them from back in the 70's, including the story panels above the kitchen by the counter. The food was really good, and of course I had the panckakes and the wife had waffles. We talked the whole time about not believing that someone hadn't shut it down like all the others we knew about.

It was before my time but the original name of Denny's was Danny's Donuts. What's wrong with that? ??? 6 years later it was renamed Denny's to avoid confusion with Doughnut Dan's.
Sambo's was started 4 years AFTER Denny's by someone else on the other side of the country. The name was short for Sam Battistone and Newell Bohnett, the founders. The two restaurant chains have nothing in common except that they started in the 50s and they serve food. The only Sambo's left is the original, owned by the grandson of one of the founders. http://www.sambosrestaurant.com/
