Title: Grassroots Organization
Post by: MikeBjerum on November 29, 2008, 08:27:38 AM
3M's,

For the most part we appear to be a group of people of like minds and commitment.  Has there ever been thoughts or attempts to get grassroots organizers from the NRA involved with Down Range Media on this Forum?  Many of us appear willing and ready to act, but we need organizing to get us moving in a unified way.

We have not worked with the 2nd amendment organizations to initiate special activities under our umbrella. Both Michael and I are also in frequent talks with the NRA and we do our best to spread the words. This goes for similar organizations.

The members on this forum, is doing a heck of a good job to share news they pick up during their daily browsing. I believe the grassroots initiative is alive and strong among forum members.

Why cant we become our own grass roots organization?

We have lots of passionate people here with a vast wealth of intellect, experience, and connections. We all share a common vision. All we really need to do is decide exactly how we are going to go about making a difference.

It is very easy to become a non-profit. And with the right connections and vision about what we want to accomplish and how we plan on getting it done, the money and partnerships needed to achieve our goals would soon follow.

So I ask again, Why not us?

Going with Marshal's thoughts, here is a link I found:

http://www.gunrightslinks.com/organizations.html (http://www.gunrightslinks.com/organizations.html)

For a starting point I would propose that we ALL follow these organizations.  We are obviously going to have some that fit each of us better than others ... I don't really qualify as a mother with a gun  ;)  If each of us would pick a favorite or two and relay info to the rest of the forum it would be a start.

ericire12, I agree that it is easy to set up a non-profit ... sort of.  I am a member of one club that is a 501C3, and it takes work to keep the organization in good graces legally.  I was a member of another that had some full time staff and it was easier.  However, any non-profit needs to have a mission statement, a charter and an active board.  While I think we could find plenty on here that are dedicated and willing, I don't know how to overcome the geographic diversity.

Why not indeed. However, let's keep it informal, off the Fed's books as it were. Nothing wrong with American citizens blogging and posting their opinions on the conduct of their government. Yet.

A 501(c)3 corporation is a creation of the federal government, that being the case, any such organization is under the thumb (or is that jackboot) of the government. The IRS is it's god.
