I was wondering if anyone here had any experience or ideas on painting gun barrels that are scratched or skinned up a little bit. I have a few old guns ..with barrels that are starting to show their wear pretty good. I would like to paint them back to a "newer" look if possible. Even if the blueing/ or black paint wasn't exactly the same.. just to look not all scratch up etc.. Any thoughts ? ideas?

I have used Alumahyde II from Brownells. Fairly durable with proper surface prep and curing time.
I have a couple of old single shot snake guns that I just wiped the barrels down with acetone and sprayed with self etching black auto primer. If I scratch it, it is easy and cheap to touch up. The flat black actually looked cool too.
I know a guy that did his entire rifle (camo), stock and all, with Krylon flat boat paint. Heck, it looked like a professional job.
Dura-Coat, Gun-Kote, or Moly-Kote cost a little more but is more durable, again with proper prep and curing time (varies).
Check out these rifles:

Dura-Coat great stuff , cheap and easy.

One thing to remember with Dura-Coat and others, (found out the hard way) let it cure longer than the directions say if using the air-cure type. With the oven cure type surface prep is still key.
It is good stuff and easy to spray on.

I have Alumahyde II from Brownells on my shopping list but I think I'll end up sending my rifle out to be Dura-Coated by someone else. I don't have the patience to do it right.

Interesting info.. I'll still checking into it.. dura-coat and gun-kote both seem to have many fans.
