WASHINGTON, D.C. – Assistant Secretary of the Interior for Fish and Wildlife and Parks Lyle Laverty today announced that the Department of the Interior has finalized updated regulations governing the possession of firearms in national parks and wildlife refuges. The final rule, which updates existing regulations, would allow an individual to carry a concealed weapon in national parks and wildlife refuges if, and only if, the individual is authorized to carry a concealed weapon under state law in the state in which the national park or refuge is located. The update has been submitted to the Federal Register for publication and is available to the public on www.doi.gov.

:) I like it.  Now I can defend myself rather than wait for a ranger to find my body.  There is more of the announcement at the link.

Here's the bigger question ...

I'm visiting Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks, two parks in the contiguous 48 where grizzlies are present, and I want my 500.  The 500 has become my standard sidearm when hunting.  Can I openly carry it while hiking the back country, or do I need a letter from the President first?

I'd say not.  It says "concealed carry in accordance with state laws".

Point made ... Like I've been saying - It is a meaningless, feel good sound bite that will be used in their campaign against us  >:(

Can you hear it, "We have flexed to allow this, and we have flexed to allow that, now it is their time to give a little, but the NRA and gun nuts throughout the Nation refuse to use common sense and allow reasonable regulation.

Not so sure it's meaningless. in the ruling, it states 47 Senators of both parties requested the Dept. 'remove their prohibitions on law abiding citizens from transporting and carrying firearms on lands managed by these agencies'  the Senators observed that '.the (current) regulations infringe on the rights of law abiding gun owners.'

4 additional Senators added similar statements later.

Pretty strong message in as to the belief in the RKBA as an individual right. They also site a 1999 CLINTON  Executive order stating the Feds should recognize the expertise of the States in such manners.

It's looking like  Boho would have a serious problem with a gun grab or a weapons ban, at least within the Senate.  Want to lay odds on who the three antis were?
