I don't ask personal questions of most people. But I think this is a fair question. While most of you who contribute to this forum and have given me a wealth of knowledge belong to the NRA. I need to know if the Producers/Contributing editors of this forum belong to the NRA. I know MB does how about RP, MJ, MH, M'ett H.etc. Reason why? As I said I think its a fair question that if your going to contribute here you should part of the big picture and be proud to boast that you are a NRA member. I don't care if your reasons are you don't agree with everything they stand for. Hell! I don't agree with most ideas out there. I am a 3yr. member and I round up when I purchase supplies every chance I get.I wish I could be a life member and will be some day. I do with some shame throw out most of thier request for money I don't have. But I do my best. Fair question? Fair answer?

Howdy and thanks for asking.
At our camp (Marshal & M'ette), we are both NRA members.
I was a member even back when I was living in the Old Country (Norway).
Posted from Orlando, FL and ready for SHOT.

Thank you Wisconsion for posting this. You beat me to it ! I am REALLY interested in the answers.
NRA Benefactor Member (took 30 years !)
-
3-yr member working on my Life membership. My wife is an annual member.
On my way to SHOT on Saturday.

I was an annual member for many years (before I was old enough to own a handgun) before bumping up to Life member when they started the 'easy-pay system'. Paid off and been a life member for about 8 years now. I buy items on a regular basis from the NRA Store online, such as videos and such, and will probably bump up a membership level as soon as funds allow.
-
I've been a member since the late '70s when I was a teenager. I signed up for Life in 1986 after I finally got a good job, then I upgraded to Endowment Member in 1996. When they had a big push at the end of the millenium it was the only time in my life I could afford to upgrade all the way. I went up to Patron Membership at the begining of 2000, and finally Benefactor at the end of 2000.
I still remember my old alpha-numeric member number that I had up until Y2K when they switched to numbers only. I was MMB****W. :)

Currently annual for 2 consecutive years, non consecutively for the past 30 years.
-
NRA member 4 consecutive years. Saving for my life member.
-
Member for 15 years.
-
Since 85 with a couple of little lapses in there. ;D

Newbie here, wish my Dad had joined us up when we participated in the NRA gun club as kids. Anyhow, annual member for maybe 6 or 8 years, upgraded to Life 3 years ago on the EPL program. When I sold the ranch early last year, I paid off the balance so full-time Life member.
Signed my 2 boys up for annual this Christmas (OK, in part to get American Rifleman going to my son at ex's house - she being a rabid anti-gunner). Will see what the future holds - about to lose my job here, so money will be tight for a while.
-
On and off for the last 40 years. Paying off a life time for my son, then my daughter. Too long in the tooth for a life time for me.
-
Four or five years currently including a charitable donation now and again.

Just recently MB posted on his blog:
"We MUST have an answer to these questions if we are to continue to support the Republican Party! Enough is enough...if they want our vote, they need to STAND THE HELL UP!"
Well how about we substitute for "Republican Party" any organization we deal with in the firearms world ! If you want our BUSINESS you have to stand up and support our rights. That means NRA. I belong to a club that only allows NRA members in. If you can't see the value of the NRA I don't think I want to spend my money with you. Quite honestly I have my concerns about this ICE organization now. Are all their instructors anti-NRA? There are lots of other training groups that do support the NRA. I'm still waiting for an answer from Pincus and Janich about themselves and their companies.
-
Life Member for quite awhile now. I also have all 4 signed up all four of my kids and my wife as members as well. Going to start working on Life memberships for the kids soon, I hope. That is if the economy will improve.

That was the exact reason I posted this question. Through past posts I know most of us regulars here belong to the NRA. Those people don't have to respond to my question. But it is nice to see us boast about our membership. It some strange posts that I'm seeing lately that is making me question who these people really are.
-
Life Member for 20 years . Sighning up my wife this year.
-
I actually just signed up for the first time in early December, now that I'm 21 and can carry soon, I have realized the need for an organization that tries to protect our freedoms.
-
With the election this year I decided to stop paying yearly and got Life membership. I thought it was that important and still do.
After seeing how the american people were hoodwinked by the media about Obama, it's really important to defend every one of our rights. They'll take them away as they can get them, one piece at a time and the MSM will stumble right along and help.
-
First membership was around 1970. It was a gift from an uncle that taught me to hunt and shoot. I kept it up well through high school and vo-tech, but then would lapse for a year, pay for a couple, lapse for a few, pay for several ... Five years ago I took the plunge and wrote the big check for Life Membership.
I have thought of going up a level or two, but I keep giving through "round-ups" and added donations through places like Midway USA, or direct donations. As cool as it would be to have the extra name on the patch or pin, getting the donations to the places it is needed to get the job done against those that would remove our Rights is the important thing.
Do I wish that NRA would turn it down a notch and me a "kinder gentler" organization? HELL NO!!! We are fighting a group that is fighting dirty, and while I don't want NRA to switch to dirty tactics they need to be strong and come across strong. We are in a gun fight, and we need to bring guns to the gun fight!
That is my history, why I belong and why I continue to support the NRA.

I have been a member on and off for over 25 years. BUT, I don't think that people are any better or worse for not being a member. The fact that they are pro-gun is enough for me. Being a member of any organization is a personal choice. Just because someone isn't a member doesn't make them anti-NRA, maybe they are, I don't know and haven't read any statements that make me think that. So don't discount anyone just because they don't belong to the same things, be it political party, church, or profession.
Just my 2 cents, It's worth what you paid.

Got tired of buying junk mail.

Got tired of buying junk mail.
One phone call to the NRA and ask to be removed from the mailing list. That is all it takes. As far as I understand, they contract the mailings out. The contractor PAYS THE NRA for the privilege, so your not paying for anything.
Update:
This is right from the NRA website....
Q: How can I reduce the amount of mail I receive from the NRA?
A: Simply email us at membership@nrahq.org or dial 800-NRA-3888 and request to be placed on the "Do Not Promote" list. This will significantly reduce the amount of mail you receive without affecting important mailings, magazine service, or your membership renewal.
-
I was wondering about the junk mail comment since I don't get any from the NRA. I hardly get any junk mail except for stuff for local stores once a week.
-
Junk mail is one thing I dislike about the NRA. The minute you send them some money they spend it sending you ten more packages of colorful requests for more money. I do think they're a bit overblown. BUT... they (or rather, "we") are big, and loud, and politicians take notice. So it's something.
Sadly these days in America the polite, reasonable types don't get heard. You've got to be on the fringe and loud as hell to get your point across. The NRA is our attack dog, that's all. Every constituency needs one, except for the sheep...they just need for Keith Olberman to tell them where to line up.
-
I have been an NRA member since I was in junior high. My Uncle Jim gave me a membership for Christmas one year. Jim was an EM in the Navy at the time. So, I know he didn't have a lot to spare. But he gave me a membership for Christmas and I have had it ever since. I upgraded to Life on my return from Vietnam, and have upgraded my Life Membership several times since.
If you value your rights as a citizen, I recommend you join the NRA even if you don't own a gun.
-
Have been an annual member for about 20 -25 years. I round up and occasionally have made an extra contribution. Have attended a friends of the NRA banquet a couple of times. Would like to someday become a life member, but finances have been real tight lately with kids in college and an economy that is in the tank here in Michigan.
-
NRA member for 20+ years, Endowment member now, about to make it Patron, want to celebrate the inauguration with it. I must say that the NRA is not perfect, but still one of the finest organizations to which I have ever belonged.
-
The pluses out weigh the minuses. Like their suit in support of a GAY San Francisco man (note that not even all liberals are anti gun)living in public housing who was prevented from having a gun he felt he needed for protection from hate crimes.

I asked the sme question at Warrior talk and this is one of the 35 (so far) replies
I am a member for one reason and one reason only. They are the only organization big enough to actually make things happen at the national level. Do I like them or do I think like them? Hell no.
I have no use for their sporting attitude and their dislike of "weapons" and using them to "kill bad guys" with. I have no use for gun curmudgeons.
What would I like them to do? Take an aggressive and forceful position and acknowledge that the Second Ammendment has nothing to do with hunting, target shooting, ducks, or eddi eagle safety. I would like them to acknowledge that the Second is about opposing tyranny at the grassroots level.
To their credit, they have taken a fairly aggressive stance since Heller. What they will do now, and what will they get into bed with in the next four years remains to be seen. When they have a photo of a civilian AK class on the cover with the caption "America's Rifle" I will change my skeptical outlook on them.

Tom,
This sums up my opinion of them too. I believe they stood by and allowed the Hughes amendment to be attached to the '86 gun bill; which the Gipper signed by the way. :( What they did not realize is that set the stage for the '94 PIF ban. How? The anti-2A terrorists saw that they could get away with banning a whole class of firearms and figured they would phase in a similar one with the '94 bill.
