Anyone here use it??
I have found it fun to be spreading my Pro gun / hunting lifestyle on everyone I know heheh
-
I stay away from it, too open, too telling, too public. Girlfriend's daughter found out her boyfriend was cheating on her when the other woman posted a series of billboards on the site thanking him for a great night - a night he was allegedly "working".
"Opsec" ( ;D ) requires a much lower profile . . . . 8)

Yes, a big user and a great way to find old friends and classmates.
OPEN. True. No anonymous names. No "screen names". Real names, real people. What you post will haunt you for eternity.
I'm not hiding from anyone, so I don't mind. I've reconnected with dozens of old friends.

Isn't FaceBook for the "older crowd"? MySpace is more for the youngsters?

Oi I resemble that remark!!!! ;D
Dunno about for the older crowd I know both my kids use it alot, as does their friends.
Myspace was always buggy and full of trojans and viruses, may have changed nowadays though.

No, I don't have a use for social networking sites, which is probably a little odd for someone who is 25. I'll call or email people I want to contact.
-
I use it to IM my son in Iraq. As an added bonus I have made contact with friends and classmates I have not seen in 25 years.
-
I have just begun to use it and have found at least 40 old classmates and friends. I don't think you want to advertise any affairs or other personal stuff, but it is fun to connect with old friends and view photos.

Dan, glad to see you joined in the fun.
Any does or don'ts on not getting sent to the corner or a time out from your mom? ;D

IF YOU HAVE KIDS using Facebook, then you definitely need to have an account and be their "friend". That way you get to see what they're posting and what their friends are posting in return.
This isn't like a forum or a usenet group. You have to allow people to be "connected" to you before they can view your information or post things to your account. And you can cut them off anytime you want. So if you don't know the person, you just refuse their request. Like I said, these are real people using their real names. No trolls.
And it is a great way to share your shooting sport without getting in peoples face. Subtle links to RKBA site, etc.
Feel free to look me up.

Kids have a way of doing that you know..
But he has a daughter now... soooooooooooooooo.. pay backs are hell. ;D

I use facebook to catch up with old friends, but mostly I use it as a business tool. It's a good way to get your name or trade out there.

Facebook Membership May Be Forever

Once a Facebook member, always a member.
The Consumerist blog noticed Sunday that the social-networking giant had quietly made a change to its user Terms of Service (TOS) on Feb. 4.
Facebook now declares that it has a perpetual license to use anything you post to your own Facebook page — even if you terminate your account.
Here's the licensing part of the legalese, which sounds bad enough:
"You hereby grant Facebook an irrevocable, perpetual, non-exclusive, transferable, fully paid, worldwide license (with the right to sublicense) to (a) use, copy, publish, stream, store, retain, publicly perform or display, transmit, scan, reformat, modify, edit, frame, translate, excerpt, adapt, create derivative works and distribute (through multiple tiers), any User Content you (i) Post on or in connection with the Facebook Service or the promotion thereof subject only to your privacy settings or (ii) enable a user to Post, including by offering a Share Link on your website and (b) to use your name, likeness and image for any purpose, including commercial or advertising, each of (a) and (b) on or in connection with the Facebook Service or the promotion thereof."
In other words, while it doesn't actually own your photos, scribblings and status updates — you do — Facebook can do whatever it wants with it, whenever it wants, in order to promote itself or create or sell ads.
Theoretically, it can even "license" a picture of your kids for use in a third party's ad campaign.
Most of that has been part of the Facebook Terms of Service for a while. After all, without user-generated content, Facebook would be nothing.
What's been removed is this: "If you choose to remove your User Content, the license granted above will automatically expire, however (sic) you acknowledge that the Company may retain archived copies of your User Content."
And what's been added is this: "The following sections will survive any termination of your use of the Facebook Service" — after which follows a list of most of the sections on the Terms of Service page.
So even if you decide Facebook isn't for you, the site can still use anything you posted. It's all been archived.
"I'm done with Facebook," declared blogger Ed Champion upon learning of the TOS changes.
He seemed more annoyed at the older blanket license than the new never-say-die part of the legalese — ironic considering that if he'd deleted his account before Feb. 4 his account really would have been gone for good.
A Facebook representative told the Chicago Tribune that the Web site would soon issue a response to Consumerist's posting.

I guess the important thing is to not post anything that you would not be wiling to say in public or on a worldwide scope.
Keep it plain and simple.
Heck, I have a Facebook account and have been logged on there maybe a whopping dozen times in almost a year.
I might log on more if more DRTV-ers are on there....but I mostly just go here to DRTV.
The chat room here is a good place to visit (when m25operator's computer is working ;) ).

Facebook backs down after user outrage
Under fire from tens of thousands of users, the social networking site Facebook said early Wednesday it was reverting to its old policy on user information -- for now. The social networking site had been caught in a privacy row after revealing it was granting itself rights to users' photos, wall posts and other information forever.

Thank's for posting that Pepper. I saw it this morning and was going to post it if no one else had.
-
Ok.. I am a facebook junkie!
I love it. I have made to date 19 photo albums and keep in touch on a more personal level with a couple of DRTV members,
I have reconnected with my best friend from high school who I haven't seen in about 30 years.
I'm having a ball with it and so hooked it is sad.. LOL

I tried to sign up. Never got the confirmation email and now I get flooded with spam.

You need a SPAM filter..........
Just be careful.....sometimes it gets clogged with little chunks of that stuff that don't really look like 'meat'.
;D ;D ;D

I have used myspace for years and my family enticed me into using Facebook. I do not really like Facebook as well but noticed different companies are trying to get out there. I have DPMS on both social sites, Glock, Smith and Wesson and Taurus on Facebook. I enjoy the privacy provided on Myspace. Seems my personal stuff is more out in the open on Facebook.
I will have to look up Downrange T V group later on. :)
Both sites are a great way to network.
Another downside with Facebook is no music compared to Myspace. Love hearing my crazy punk rock music in the background or relaxing to some great late 60's and early 70's rock n roll. Can't do that on Facebook.
-
Actually just joined the DRTV group a few minutes ago.
-
I joined a few hours ago on DRTV. I have caught up with other veterans I have served with along with classmates and old friends from college and high school.

Actually, there are TWO separate DownRange pages on Facebook.
Here's the other one. It has about 40+ members.

Indeed... Now I am in both....
-
Hi, long time myspace user, not really into facebook.
I think you should do a page there too!!
-
Lot's of DRTV members signing up.
-
Addictive.... in all areas..
-
I started using facebook to talk to my sister while she was in college and now that she is in Chicago. Joined myspace to keep tabs on my non related "sisters" their mom has her own account now so she can keep tabs on them. Your privacy setting upon initial setup are more secure on facebook than on myspace. On both sites though you can make your privacy settings as visible or invisible as you want. j_slutz@hotmail.com is my account for both. I think you can do an e-mail search and find me if not send me an e-mail and I'll add you if anyone is interested. Def going to be joining the drtv groups
