Democrat State Sen. Ronald Ramsey Sr. (District 43-DeKalb/Rockdale counties) has proposed Senate Bill 12, which makes it a misdemeanor in Georgia for the following: On and after Jan. 1, 2010, to sell or possess any ammunition that does not have a particular unique identifier (etching) on the base of the bullet. All vendors of handgun ammunition shall record the name of the purchaser, that person's driver's license number or other government-issued identification and date of birth. That information will be maintained for three years. There shall be a fee imposed to anyone purchasing handgun ammunition of $0.005 per round ($0.25 per box). No later than Jan. 1, 2012, all non-coded handgun ammunition, whether owned by private citizens or commercial entities, shall be disposed of (destroyed). This bill was read and referred by the Senate on 01-12-2009
.
I was also shocked to see this in the article:
"The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government," said Thomas Jefferson.

Another round for the useless, worthless, expensive, punative Bill >:(
Stand strong and turn it away like every other State has done so far. Note that I did not say it will be turned down, but rather that we need to work to make sure it is turned away.

Every state (so far, I think) that this has come up in has turned it down flatly, and rightly so. It it a costly and unnecessary bill designed as a punitive action toward those who like to own and shoot firearms legally. Legal gun owners are always the target of over zealous bill-writers with an agenda because we are an easy target. They can't seem to enforce the hundreds of laws already on the books that are 'designed' to stop crime because guess what, criminals pay no heed to laws. That's what makes them 'criminals'. So they go after the next best thing, us, because by and large, we actually OBEY the laws.

Being that you are in Georgia, you should still contact your representatives and have your voice be heard.

It's a bill designed to make the patent holder a bunch of money.

I have.
It's a bill designed to make the patent holder a bunch of money.
Exactly. And, I believe that is why it has failed in the other states.

That's what Tom Gresham was saying on last Sunday's Guntalk.
