My wife got me an AK-47 for my birthday. It's a WASR type sporting rifle, Semi-automatic, chambered in 7.62X39. Made in Romania. They said it was new, but was military surplus. It doesn't have a very nice finish on it but the inside of the receiver and the barrel look new. It didn't come with a owners/operators manual. All it had was the safety booklet and instructions on how to field strip and reassemble it. Now, this is my first rifle and I was wondering if anyone here could direct me to where I could get some more info on AKs. I haven't shot it yet, just going over it to learn what I could. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'm a big fan of www.surplusrifle.com (http://www.surplusrifle.com). Lots of good info. Happy Birthday.

Thank you, gentlemen, I'll get started on those sites.

You'll love the rifle! My dad has one. Happy Birthday! You can get manuals for just about any military surplus gun from lots of places. Cabela's, Cheaper Than Dirt, your local gun show....

Pretty cool site BigSaucy,,thanks for the link.

If your wife bought the gun at a shop, have her bring you in and ask the sales person to give you a full run-down of the gun. If they can not then ask them for advice due to the fact that you would like to be a return coustomer. At our shop I am the go to guy when it comes to the customers tutorial.

remember it must be 922 compliant unless its a pre ban , do your home work.

Texcaliber, she bought it at a gun store/pawn shop. They had about fifteen of these rifles all identical. They told her that if there was ever a problem with the rifle to let them know and they would try to get it worked out, but the fact that it was surplus meant they couldn't get a manual. However, I'm off on Thursday so I'll take your advice and go to the shop and talk to them. You never know. Also, 2HOW, 922 compliant? Like I said, I'm new to the world of rifles so what's this 922 thing all about?

let me know how it goes on Thurs.: sig22940 .

sig22940,since the banning of imported rifles like these, they must have 6 american made parts installed to be compliant, alot of companys are putting on US barrels and stocks, any part that is made in the US will qualify. But if it was pre-ban and grandfathered in it will be ok. I would check where you got itto be sure.

Walter45Auto, I just got a manual from Cheaper Than Dirt. Lots of really good places to learn about this rifle. Thanks a lot, guys, for all the info. I ought to be an expert in no time . . . well, maybe a little longer than that. ;D I'll be going to the store where it was purchased and will ask about those American made parts. Thanks for that tip, 2SHOW.
