Title: Weaver Rings --- Technical Specs
Post by: alfsauve on February 18, 2009, 09:12:14 PM
Okay, I'm trying to standardize.  I only buy Sperry Topsiders for casual shoes and Bass for formal.  All my socks are "gold toes".  I have BKL rings on all my rimfires & air rifles and I really like the Weaver Quad-Lock on my centerfires.

Problem is I need just a little more height on my AR-15.  The "high" isn't high enough.  But saints preserve us, Weaver has just come out with an "x-high".  Now for the life of me I can't seem to find any actual specs or drawings on the Weaver web site NOR in the 58MB 2009 catalog.  Anybody know where I might find those specs?

How high is "x high"?   Would I be better off getting a 1/2" riser?  I think that looks kludgy though.

Maybe I'll just write Weaver and see if they respond.

Thanks, Tom.    I was just wondering if I had overlooked a link to their "specs".   Or maybe somebody had a link to the measurements.

I think it's funny that they've got a new product (49049) and you can't buy it in their web store but a half-dozen retailers have it for sale.

If they send useful material I'll post it here.

HATS OFF to WEAVER (ATK INDUSTRIES) FOR QUICK RESPONSE

I sent them an email last night asking for specs for their rings.  Specifically I asked, how high is their new Quad-Lock X-High.   By 10am I had an excel spreadsheet with the answer.

Actually it's very simple.  All their "Weaver" mounts follow the same scale and their "dovetail" (.22) mounts another.

Heights for all "detachable" rings
RING SIZESADDLE HEIGHTOBJCTVE SIZE
1" Low0.089Thru 38mm
1" Medium0.168Thru 40mm
1" High0.332Thru 42mm
1" X-High0.560Thru 44mm
1" See-Thru0.750Thru 40mm
30mm Low0.288Thru 33mm
30mm High0.500Thru 44mm
1" 22 Std0.250Thru 36mm
1" 22 See-Thru0.875Thru 40mm

Heights for all "dovetail" rings
RING SIZESADDLE HEIGHTOBJCTVE SIZE
1" Low0.150Thru 40mm
1" Medium0.271Thru 50mm
1" High0.401Thru 56mm
1" X-High0.521Thru 56mm+
30mm High0.491Thru 50mm
1" 22 High0.392Thru 38mm

Disclaimer.   I've copied this to the best of my ability.   There may be errors, some of which may be in the original ATK Document.  Reader beware.   Double check before relying on this info.

Is .228 enough lift for what you need ?

Well, now that I've got the data, I'll have to go down and do some experimenting.   I have Quad-Lock High (0.332) rings on a AR flat-top.  The problem is right now all I have is a straight (A2) stock with no drop.  So I have a difficult time getting my eye low enough.  This weekend I'll jury rig up something to see whether the X-High (0.560) is enough or whether I need to put a 1/2" riser underneath the rings.

Of course I could just get an adjustable stock. ;-)
