Title: Bakua Freeze
Post by: jpr9954 on February 21, 2009, 08:19:09 AM
Your description of the Bakua Freeze on Show 98 sounded interesting. The Hurricane's website described it as a Kahlua Colada with a blast of banana.

I want the recipe! And I can't find it on the Internet. Michael, you owe it to your tropical drink loving listeners to either give a better description of the Bakua Freeze or, better yet, hornswaggle the recipe out of the bartenders at The Hurricane.

John Google is your friend.

1) The Hurricane.com is the restaurants web site, the list the Bakua Freeze  as A Kahlua Colada with a blast of banana!
2) Google Kahlua Colada
3) Kahlua Colada

1 1/2 oz. Vodka
1 oz. Kahlua
1/4 oz. Coconut Creme
4 oz. Pineapple Juice
1 Cup Crushed Ice

Combine all ingredients in a blender.
Mix on high for 30 seconds.
Serve in a hurricane of collins glass.

4) Your on your own for the Banana (Michael might be able to fill that in - mashed, blended, oil) He's had the drink so may be able to shed some light on the banana consistency.

Hope this helps.

Sorry for the lag in response. I only just saw the recipe. Thanks so much. I'm off to the ABC store for some Kahlua!!! ;D

My Sweetie, after YEARS of patient trial and error with her pal Kim, decoded the original Hurricane bakua freeze recipe, and since I care about the classics, I offer it to you all here, free of charge:

3 shots of run
1 shot of Kahlua
2 shots Cocao de Caco
ice (1/2 blender full)
1 ripe banana

Drink enough of these and four things will inevitably happen:

• You'll gain weight
• You'll lose your job
• You'll get a Hawaiian shirt
• You'll discover an inexplicable love for the ukulele

PS: A frozen banana is better, as it will cause you to learn all the lyrics to Don Ho's "Tiny Bubbles..."

Though you could use either, the dark will look a bit weired.  I would use white (Bacardies 151).  If you use dark make sure it is NOT spiced.

You use the "white (Bacardi's 151)" cause you want it to kick like a mule on acid. Unfortunately, I can't say I wouldn't do the same thing.  ;D

Now that I am thinking 151 rum... for those that can get Blue Bell vanilla ice cream (suppose regular ol' vanilla will work)... bowl of ice cream with an indention full of 151 rum (much like mashed potatoes and gravy), light the 151 on fire for 5 seconds, smother it out with the ice cream and enjoy.

I consulted with the Sweetie, and she's been using Mt. Gay Barbados rum...she thinks the banana flavor overpowers the rum in any case!

MB,  Why would you use sch a fine rum in a mix like this?  Sorta like drinking Wild Turkey and coke!
