Title: Pistol training German Army Reserve
Post by: Pepper on February 24, 2009, 09:19:00 AM
Ultima Ratio and me conducted a pistol course for the German Army Reserve this weekend. What a pain in the a** it was. ::) After using wrong techniques for decades they just can't get it right. No matter how often you gonna show it to them.

Look at those horrible grip techniques.

Ultima Ratio shows the right grip...

but no matter how often you do, they still do it wrong

Me trying to get the guys moving.

90% of the rounds went outside the killzones

Ultima Ratio at zero distance

It will take a lot of patience and a lot of dry pratice to get them rid of their bad habits.

I felt like the guy in this video:

When did you do the shotgun training? LOL

I remember the SgtMaj. looking at my .45 qualifing target and saying, "You might be better off using it as a club"

It was evident from the start that they never did anything but fire some rounds downrange somehow without hurting themselves but it was scary how reluctant and incapable they were to do anything but their "safe" low speed imprecise type of shooting. As if the brain was not connected to the muscles. After a briefing on the four safety rules we gave a short lesson on mindset, the OODA-Loop, muscle memory and the effects of adrenalin as well as shotplacement vs. caliber, protective equipment, holsters, mag pouches and belts. Then we came to ready positions, loading techniques, press checks, setting up on target and correct drawing from the holster by the numbers. Finally it was sight picture, compressed surprise break, follow through and trigger reset. The plan was to do the F.A.S.T. protocol, malfunction clearing / immediate action drills, shooting on the move and correct use of cover (vs. concealment) and some unconventional shooting positions as well as close contact shooting from a retention position. Needless to say that we never came beyond drawing from the holster and the grip technique. Would do it again without hesitation though!

You probably should have conducted the training session at a more realistic handgun distance, like maybe 10-15 yards..... I too would not have been able to do much better at 1000 yards.

Wait for it..............

The ones to blame, who will never admit it, are the Govt. that doesn't provide enough training funds for troops to attain or RETAIN proficiency in necessary skills.

Back in 85 I think it was, I trained a German howitzer battery ammo team. They would transport the WP rounds laying on their side  ::) and then want to shoot them. White phosphorus is a thick liquid that will conform to the side of the round and if you shoot it it will  either blow up the tube or go terribly awry. It must be stored standing straight up.   Dumb as rocks.  They would drink on duty, it was a joke.
