Semper Fi Gunny. RIP
-
AWESOME!!!!!!!
-
One of the greats no doubt, but really got screwed by the corps after all he did for them, they sat on their thumbs and refuse to support him in his hour of need.
Semper-Fii - riiiiiiiight.
Only when it works for them in their favor I guess.

RTFM I would like to hear more. What do you know about his final days? I understood that he retired and passed from MS. I have a copy of the tape that Plaster did with him...
Carlos Hathcock, Marine Sniper (VHS TAPE)
Interviewed by Maj. John Plaster
After many previous conversations, Maj. Plaster visited Gunny Hathcock at his home in Virginia Beach, Va., bringing along a video crew to record, first-hand, his fascinating combat stories, advice on long-range shooting and ideas about training snipers. A portion of this interview was included in Maj. Plaster's first Ultimate Sniper video, and proved so popular that this longer, full-length version has been released separately. The royalities on this video go to the Hathcock family.

OOO-RAH, Gunny!! Well done. RIP.
-
One who truly IS the standard for those who follow in his bootsteps.
RIP.

My little bros in Marine Corps. ROTC are all about the Gunny. Great standard to live up to.
-
What a legend is he.
-
A great marine. I have a friend that was in a sniper platoon in Nam, also recieved the silver star. Tough men.

My wife's little brother (Not so little) is a Scout Sniper with the Marines and just got back from Iraq and before that Afghanistan. We prayed for him every night. He and I used to talk about Carlos Hathcock.
On a side note, I am looking to get the M25 Whitefeather as my next purchase.

Thanos, I had one, was one of the proudest purchases I ever made, in the beginning it shot well and I had optic problems, solved that and then it refused to shoot well. 3" at 3 hundred yards at 1st, which was great, then 1 1/2" to 2" at 100 with every cartridge I tried, I even let other shooters try and no one did any better. I finally sent it back to springfield, and they rebedded the trigger group, I did not even shoot it, I sold it, a 4,000 dollar rifle should shoot from day 1, and yes it did, but badly deteriorated from there, less than 200 rounds fired before it went downhill. The new owner is very happy, but I don't know how good a shooter he is. It is a beautiful rifle, and wonderfully packaged. The Dale Rader trigger is the most awesome trigger I have ever shot on an M1a, 1 1/2lbs is no joke. And I'm glad that my original purchase put a little coin into the Hathcock family pocket.
I replaced it with this, a Marine corp, M40 A3, built by Mike Lau, at Texas Brigade Armory, a former Marine corp armorer who built them for the corp, and author of a best selling sniper read. It holds under 1 moa, out to a thousand yards.

If you buy one, be prepared to be happy or sad, with your purchase, I know some M25 operators, who have had great experiences.

Great, now you have me looking at something else. I want something .308 but I am not sure. I sense a new thread...

I reckon we're still making men like Carlos Hathcock, maybe just not so many. I don't know who has his truck or his tag now, but I'm hoping they retired the latter.
