Title: Black Rifle Disease (BRD) again!!!
Post by: gunman42782 on July 31, 2007, 05:35:31 PM
I swear, boys and girls, nothing has infected me worse than the dreaded BRD has.  Just bought  a Bushmaster about a month or two ago.  Didn't have it more than a couple of week and swapped the M4 barrel for a DPMS bull barrel.  Now I done went and bought a lower from Centerfire Systems and a build kit from Del-Ton and am gonna build me another M4!   Done got it bad, bad, bad!

Yep.. snuck up and bit me last week as well.

Of course this was an Armalite AR10.  I have convinced myself I just wanted to step up and feel the power.. :)

You are a better man than I, there is no way and I MEAN NO WAY! I would be able to say "my DPMS would or could be unfired" . Do not have a strong enough will.   :D

I have the symptoms... that burning desire for a Black Rifle... just that as a 1911 man I always get so overwhelmed and back off.   Being a man of limited resources I have to be quite sure of my purchase as I can't really afford to buy multiples... so now my question.  What would the best starter AR.   Uses - playing around at the range and eventual 3 gun matches.  Cost is of course a concern but I rather drop a bit more up front than have to buy multiples.

as long a house clearing is not a issue then Bushmaster has a great rifle pretty much set for competition or hunting and I do not think you can beat the gun-to-cash ratio. Check out:

That does look like a good option.  What does everyone think about DPMS/Panther Arms?  I know that their Lo-Pro 16 is highly recomended by Tom Gresham and was talked about a bit on the day DPMS was on his show.  Any thoughts?

I have a DPMS A-15 (M4 clone), very nice. Have not had a chance yet to abuse it properly to see what it can really do, but so far very good. I like it.

I like the S&W MP15's better IMHO. But if you want a different option DPMS is a good one. My buddy has a BIG round count though his DPMS http://www.dpmsinc.com/@ssets/images/firearms/223_race.gif
and the only FTFs were due to ammo(really tight chamber) not being checked in his chamber guage. Oh yeah that rifle has been glowing hot many times and it still holds sub MOA.

Most 3 guns shooters are using longer than a 16 most have 18"-20" just a thought, oh and good break.

A short term solution for BRD can be had in the form of accessories from AAC, Gem Tech, Yankee Hill or others!

My specific accessory is an AAC M4-2000 which has been a real #$@%# to get because of it's popularity.  After you accessorize, in this manner, you may find this accessory item is needed for other guns not related to the BRD...say the 30 caliber or .22.....which really compounds things because you soon have both BRD and SD (not STD) diseases complementing each other.

Certainly, but be forewarned you'll be moving from EBR's to an even darker world....you may never be the same afterwards....and it can be expen$ive....next political cycle you may not have the opportunity.
