Title: IWB Holster for Internal Hammer J-Frame
Post by: sanjuancb on March 02, 2009, 07:11:17 PM
I'm more than likely going to buy a j-frame this weekend (probably a S&W 642) and was wondering if anyone can recommend an IWB holster for it? No need to get fancy, just comfortable and serviceable! Thanks guys and gals!

Sanjauncb, Comfortable in an IWB holster doesn't come cheap. Try Kramer leather, They make the best I've used.

You also might want to consider hip grips

Just what I want...a load gun inside my pants with nothing covering the trigger!  OUCH!

Good luck on your penile surgery!    :o

It's a whole new take on the old "I want an Official Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two-Hundred-Shot Range Model Air Rifle!" and the old "You'll shoot your eye out, kid." thang!

Yeah, I am not too sure about the hip grips (I don't have any experience with them. Also, wearing jeans a lot kinda rules out a pocket holster (small pockets on those Wranglers & Levis). Uncle Mike's doesn't seem like an ideal, but I don't necessarily want to spend $100 on a holster either. Yes, I know you get what you pay for.

Umm.. as noted.. Uncles Mikes.. IWB ..cheap black ..neoprene type holsters are comfortable.. you won't remember it's there.. until you got to the bathroom etc.. then the gun can/will shift and want to come out.. unless you are paying attention.. and kinda "nuss it" so's it don't. Otherwise..I would get a Don Hume or a Galco leather.. Don Hume's can be littler cheaper than Galco's although not always.. they are top notch leather and fit guns like a glove.. so your gun won't try to fall out either. BTW.. 642 is a good choice.. lite and comfy.. I have a 638 that I love too. Right now.. it's the only other gun I carry ..if I'm not carrying a Glock.. which is still my primary carry gun. You might want to get one with a thumb strap too.. if it's not a leather on that fits like a glove.  ;)

Hawkfish, I think you are on the money. I have a Don Hume for my SR9 (it is a H&K USP holster) that was only about $35 and it fits very nicely. I am actually getting the 642 for my dad, but I think that it will be a decent gun.

Check out DeSantis holsters too. Not too expensive, but with some basic adjustments.

I have one by BLACKHAWK.  It was around twenty dollers and I got it at Gander Mountain.  Very nice.  I have the M638 and it fits very well.  I'm gonna buy another one in case this one wears out  ;)
