Title: Anyone from NH with a CCL? Need advice!
Post by: sgtmac on March 04, 2009, 09:47:00 AM
I am having a small issue with my town.
I just got out of the military and moved to a new town in NH. I went in and filled out the form to renew my permit, that was 2 months ago. I keep getting the run around, and the town is not following the rules set by the state, I contacted the state and they said I could get an attorney and take them to court but other then that I am SOL because they won't get involved.
NH is a shall issue state, and you are supposed to have a yes or no in two weeks. I know I meet all the requirements, basically if you can purchase a gun, you get a permit. That is written in the rules set forth by the state.
I call the local PD once a week, and they keep saying an officer needs to come to my house! A. that is not part of the laws. B. it's been 2 months, it's a small town with nothing going on. WTF!
I want to tell them to take the permit and shove it, but I am sure that is what they want. I keep telling them they are not following the rules set by the state, and they keep saying,"oh it takes more then two weeks", "we do extra stuff". I am starting to get so pissed I would move if I could afford it.
This is my third permit, but this is a different town. I have never had one take more then two weeks.

Sorry for the rant, this really has my panties in a bunch! Any advice or ideas would be great.

Thanks

Get the lawyer ! Laconia got sued and LOST a few years ago because they denied the local Chapter President of Hells Angels, He had no Felonies so they HAD to issue.
Penny Dean has a hot line for people in your situation Phone number is (603)- 225 - 4664
I bet you are in the Seacoast, Many of those towns are run by anti gun rights  socialists up from Ma.
DON"T FORGET PUNITIVE DAMAGES !
It DOES NOT take more than 2 weeks, State law says after 14 days they WILL issue. Here in Laconia I let them have 16 days because the Clerk was out with the flu.

I hate it when the local yokels get involved.  Here in FL it is state run, period.  No local involvement in the process other that getting a finger print card.

It's only administered by the Locals, the law is set by the State and has been upheld against several towns, including Laconia, Portsmouth, Dover, and Newington.

I had not either..... I just did a little googleing and found them. Every state has at least one grass roots org (Like a state version of the NRA) whose job it is to put the screws down on the state lawmakers. Not sure how much power the Pro-Gun New Hampshire group has, but it might be worth contacting them.....

..... I highly recommend to everyone to find your state's group and join the cause at the state level. Micro is just as important as macro in this fight we are in....... Being apart of the cause at the state level is very important.

Here is the major player in SC, where I live:

I am in Somersworth, so you are right. I had a feeling that was the case. Thanks for the info, I will try those leads. I would get an attorney, but I can't afford it at the moment.

They will probably take it "Pro Bono" (for free) as it is a slam dunk. Somersworth does not have a leg to stand on.

I just got off the phone with woman that does the permits, her excuse is that she does not know what officer has it! I did not know that they had that many patrol officers, what a joke. I will contact the attorney you suggested, I alo contacted that website. I am so pissed I can't sit still. I have spent the last 14 years wanting to move home, now I just want to leave. I am so pissed that the frigging liberals have ruined my state. What happened to live free or die?

Hell, I sent my out of state NH renewal in recently and got it back in the mail in less than 2 months....sounds bad to me!

FWIW

Richard from Ohio

PS:  Find a state like Florida and see if they are reciprical (SP?) with NH and get an out of state from there.  Check PA, you can get a PA. thru the mail.

Ellis, out of state permits are handled by the State Police, they obey the law. But we have some towns that think they can get away with being d!&ks. sgtmac needs to sue the daylights out of Somersworth and make an example of them.
The Seacoast is overrun with a bunch of Massholes and wannabe yuppies, unfortunately they are spreading like a bad rash.
The only answer is to make it so expensive for them that they don't try it again.

Tom,
If I lived in NH and went to Florida to get an out of state Permit (non-resident permit from Florida), NH (including the towns) would have to honor it, right? How does that work, or is supposed to work, in your neck of the woods?

The state recognizes it,
Alabama, Alaska, Arizona**, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi,
Missouri, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Utah, Wyoming *For residents of
issuing state only. ** 21 years old only.
What the TOWNS think is irrelevant,
To the extent consistent with federal law, the
state of New Hampshire shall have authority and
jurisdiction over the sale, purchase, ownership,
use, possession, transportation, licensing,
permitting, taxation, or other matter pertaining to
firearms, firearms components, ammunition, or
firearms supplies in the state. Except as otherwise
specifically provided by statute, no ordinance or
regulation of a political subdivision may regulate
the sale, purchase, ownership, use, possession,
transportation, licensing, permitting, taxation,
or other matter pertaining to firearms, firearms
components, ammunition, or firearms supplies in
the state.
New Hampshire prohibits civil liability causes
of action against manufacturers, distributors,
dealers, and importers of firearms or ammunition
for the harm caused by the criminal or unlawful
use of their products by others.

To all who gave advice
Well, I got my CCW last Friday. I am not sure if it was my threat of standing in front of the court house in my dress uniform or if the NRA rep or one of the other individuals I contacted called and lit a fire. I am thankful for all of you that gave advice and helped out. My only regret is that what this town did was not brought out in the open; I am going to have to figure out how to do that.
Once again, thank you all!

Start by putting a letter in Fosters Daily Democrat, and then hounding every politician you can get to. A thought is to network with others who have suffered delays or unjustified denials then see if you can take legal action or stage a protest.
It may seem lame, but the only people who know about this crime (violation of state law) are each individual who it is committed against and the perpetrators. Bring their criminal, discriminatory actions out in front of the whole world.

What is this "DRTV Rangers unit" ?

A very ELITE position, that can only be held by someone with the utmost knowledge of ALL things "gun" related.
Can only be achieved by request from the 3M's. ;)
