I got bored today. The midget was at her friend's house playing, and I didn't feel like staring at the TV, so I took advantage of the time to make a new carry holster for my G23, and make a holster for my Dad's Ruger Old Army.

Ummmm.....make me one?
-
They look good. I sense a business opportunity. :)

Nice work ... on a free afternoon ... what do you do when your busy?
-
do you use a machine or sew by hand?
-
By hand...stitching machines cost WAY too much for a guy who does it for a hobby.

Never happen. Then it would be too much like work. I will make one for a friend now and again. But that is the extent of it.

Look good? Where are the pictures?

Good question. Where ARE the pix? ???

Did you delete them ?

I saw them earlier. ??? ???
Hey, Frisco...I've been toying with the idea of making a pocket holster for my NAA Mini .22 Mag. (mainly 'cause I'm too cheap to buy one). Do you know of a primer on how to do it? Especially how to "wet mold" the leather. Thanks.

Is that the percussion Ruger ?

WOW! Nice looking rigs!

Yes, it is the 45 Cal Ruger Old Army charcoal burner. Pretty neat and fun to shoot. It just sits in my gun safe....and I thought it needed a holster. I won't get rid of the gun, because it belonged to my Dad.

I will get you my address and you are gonna need to hook me up for a G26 rig.... those are super sweet.

Very nice holsters, Frisco. They look professional.
Where'd you get the leather? I've made a few but not anywhere close to that nice. I can't get good thick leather around here. I've found some on the net but you have to buy too much up front and it costs too much that way.
-
I usually go to a supplier in Tucson....Rocking J Leather.
Tandy is a good place to start, they should have one semi close to you.
If you want to buy online from Tandy...get a 7-8oz shoulder, which should run about $40.00. You can get 3 holsters from it.
It is thicker, and leather shears are a MUST. Exacto knives just won't...wait for it....wait for it....cut it. Fine auto body sand paper from your local auto parts store is good for smoothing the edges. Wood sandpaper will come apart on you.
Like I said this is all advice from a hobbyist. Professionas will tell you I am wrong, and that I don't know what I am talking about. I just know what I use.

Thanks Friso, I'll check them out.
Like you, I stitch by hand, so I'll pick your brain a little more.....I use a hand stitching tool (like those used for saddle repair), what type needles do you use?
Thanks.

I use the thinnest ones I can fit into an awl. They go through the leather easier, and leave neater stitches. You will want to get yourself a marking wheel too. They lay out your stitch lines where you want them, then I use a punch awl to put the holes into the leather, then stitch through those.

Nice work Frisco.
