Title: Couger, who can build one?
Post by: warhawke on August 12, 2007, 03:40:03 AM
Ok, so I have a blued Ruger Security-Six .357 and I don't like it much. The skinny barrel turns me off and it is not the best in the accuracy dept (not bad, just not so great) and the grip is a bit chunky. I'm thinking that if I keep it (and it was a sweet deal), I want to upgrade it, and here's what I've come up with;

1) 4" Python barrel (3" if I can find one)
2) Grind it down to a round-butt
3) Bob the hammer (maybe not completely, just enough to keep it from catching)
4) Trigger Job
5) dehorned (maybe a full "Meltdown")
6) Burnished chambers (maybe)
7) Refinish (something dark but not Teflon)

Now I can get most of this done by various smiths, but I cannot find a good one who can mount the barrel. I want the Colt thread on it too, not the courser Ruger threads. Does anybody know a good smith that can (and will) do this? I've checked with Bowen and he said it's not something he does. Help?

Any comments on the package would be welcome too. Anything I forgot, any issues with what's here? I think it would be a good self-defense pistol and I might carry it OJT (I work security).

P.S. for you youngsters out there, COlt + rUGER = Couger, if you were wondering.

Well, it won't be as expensive as I feared, but pretty spendy for my Scottish blood. It will take a while to scrape up the $$$$$
