Title: Everything you ever needed to know about Glock
Post by: ericire12 on April 02, 2009, 11:49:10 AM
MouseGuns.com has compiled a nice cache of knowledge about Glock -- the pistol, the man, and the company.

From their legal battle with S&W to the attempt on Gaston's life back in 1999, this page has a great deal of interesting information and is a really nice read:

The only thing that would make the Glock experience better would be free beef.

I dislike them. My person opinion.

Glock was stupid to get rid of Wilhelm Bubits, but it was for the better as he went on to design the Steyr M series.

What a Glock should have been.

Thanks for the site ericire12. Pretty good info and learned a couple of things.

Great find!  Lots of info that'd be very hard to find otherwise.  The few people I know that dont prefer Glocks have been carrying 1911's for years, and its just to big of a change.  There's a lot to be said for keeping what your familiar with.

I think the most important part is that you carry the weapon with confidence and ability.

Personally, I trust my G30 100% to get me to the long gun I shouldnt have left behind in the first place. ;)

CDNN just sold out of around 500 of them in 9 and 40 for $329 over the last 18mths.
Now on GB they are averaging around $425-$450.
Unless you find a 357 and they fetch up to $600.

Color me amazed. I've never seen one in a gunshop. I had it in my mind that they were priced more in line with the FNs. Live and learn.

The only reason people hate Glocks is because they dont have one. Second is the sights on the steyer suck really bad I tried one and hated it. Third steyer handguns couldnt pass the torture tests Glock passed with flying colors.

Every one I know that hates glocks has owned them.  I've only sold 2 guns in my life, a glock and a ruger, I don't miss either.

And before you say well you didn't give the glock a chance.  500 ish rounds 1 match and several range trips is one hell of a chance.

Hey, I'm a a glock fan and can't understand why anyone wouldn't think they were wonderful for what they're for. That being said I bought and then sold a keltec p11 after three trips to the range. I could not stand the weight and length of the trigger pull. The weight wasn't the problem really it was the length and the fact that it didn't break like glock. I kept wondering when the damn thing would go off and then kept short stroking  the trigger as I had to let it return to set itself (duh double action, but still longer than I was comfortable with). The thing is keltec has a cult following and seems reasonably well made. Its not a question of which gun is best but which is best for us. If there was really one clearly superior gun, odds are good we'd all own it or be saving up for it.

I didn't like the feel of the plastic in my hands( made me sweat) the grip angle thru off my stance and I hated the trigger.

it was a great deal when I picked it up at a gun show from a guy, made money on it when I sold it.

I like my triggets to have very little take up, and break cleanly.  Glocks do neither.

For target shooting Glock triggers do leave a lot to be desired.  BUT, if the trigger feel really bothers you...  http://anarchangel.blogspot.com/2005/03/how-to-make-glock-not-suck.html

would you buy a new car off a car lot that needed a motor?

Why would you buy a gun that needs "work" to make it the way it should be from the gun shop?

You must be talking about a 1911, TAB; Glocks need no work. If you need to work on the trigger to get it to shoot for you, the problem isn't with the gun.....  ;)

This is a BIG misconception about them: Glocks were never intended to be tack drivers. They are intended to save your life. And to do that, they only need to be accurate enough and bloody reliable enough for the majority of the situations you might be involved with in a self defense shooting.

Your other points about the grip not being right or you didn't like the take up on the trigger are valid because they involve your personal preferences. If the gun doesn't feel right to you, it's not the right gun for you.

And one parting thought: Inside every 1911 owner is a Glock owner waiting to get out!   ;D  ;D

I've never had a prob with a new 1911 I've owned.  Now I did take in a smiffed one and one that was litterly rusted shut, but those are diffrent.

Then again, I'm pretty anal about my guns.  I inspect them very well before I buy them.  If the gun shop won't let me dry fire them, I find another gun shop.

I can get 18rds of .45 in my p-14's (Grams base pads). The last round is a bugger, but she'll fit.  I usually only load 17.

I think you'll find RARE instance where if you havent solved your problem in the first three rounds, your problem solved their problem...  You.

It's great fun to watch movie shootouts.  Im not going to arm myself thinking thats how it really happens though.

ALL YOU GLOCK GUYS AND NOBODY'S MENTIONED THE MOVIE "REVOLVER"!!!   Your all gonna pee yourselves when you see it!  (Yes, theres a 20 round clip involved, and many people feel the wrath)  SEE THE MOVIE.

A reason given to me when I asked why police departments require all patrol men to carry the same weapon.  "Suppose two officers are in a shootout.  One uses all his ammo and the other has only fired a few shots.  The officer still having a spare magazine can share his ammo.".

If officer number two has shot out three magazines worth of ammo and we're still in a fire fight...  HE'S NOT WASTING ANY OF MY BULLETS!!! :o

Not too long ago we had a police shoot which 3 officers were envoled in, 60 some odd shots  2 hits, upper arm and ankle.  This was all at less then 10 yds and one of the officers had a ar( he didn't hit the guy)  Some one actually had to reload and keep shooting to reach that round count.  Make me feel real safe...

Both our and the Vietnamese governments confirm an average of 20,000 rounds fired for every confirmed kill in vietnam...  ::)

If in some mad, insane world I ever had a say in it...  The average foot soldier would have semi-auto, and three round burst select fire rifles.  Only two guys per squad with heavy full auto's (M60 variants). ALL would be .308 caliber (Yes I still love my AK's, but thats a whole other scenario.).

We need about a fifth of the Police force we have in this country.  What cops we did have should be getting training more along the lines of special forces.  Wilson combat 12 gauge, a G21, & G30 backup as full time carry requirement (while on duty they would never be without them. PERIOD).  To much gun for you to handle properly?  Dont apply.  Only SWAT teams should be toteing rifles for special situations (with even more training in their case)

Some of the cops in Spain carry what looked like an MP5 and body armor.  People DID NOT F with them!!!  They dont waste time on, or give a crap about traffic violations, or a little scuffle on the sidewalk.  Stupid crap like that took care of itself or citizens stepped in and settled it as needed.  But, if somebody got caught for robbing a house, attacking a woman, ripping off a store.  It was game time!

Maybe thats all just German heritage talking... ;D ;D ;D  Dont get me started on what prison should be like! ;D

I believe them more than I would any governmet. ;D

What I had read was refering to small arms fire only.  Lord only knows how much other munitions were wasted.

Lack of proper training and supervision has lead to to much corruption here.

The reason I couldnt say for sure about the weapon Spanish cops carry is that it was NOT smart to look very long, make eye contact, or draw their attention.  They were quick to get in peoples faces, and more than once I saw guys talk back and get "jacked up", quickly followed by a car ride down town.  Most cops here are to corrupt to be given anything close to that kind of power.  It'd be a very tough change to impliment.

Use contractors in the interm of the change over?

When I was in Germany (late 70s early 80) you were not alowed to take a cops picture.  If he saw you he just took the camera, opened it, destroyed the film and then started to 'talk' to you to find out 'why'.  I saw it happen.

Yeah, I was there in the 90's.  I dont think they've lightened up any. ;D

And their crime rates are NOTHING compared to ours!

As far as prison...  Every cell should be solitary confinement for a start.  No more gangs, homo's rapeing each other, teaching each other how to be "better criminals".  Just sit in your cage and watch Martha Stewart teach "how to get along in society" videos 24 hours a day!  ;)

You think "Mr. gang banga" is gonna steal your car if he has to go to that for three months?  Also leave a rope in every cage in case their just not happy with their new lifestyle. ;)
