Anyone putting together or completed a "Deployment kit" / "Preparedness bag"? What's in it?!?!
It's still in the works, but so far:
M77 Target, .308, 13oz. two stage, blueprinted & epoxy bedded action, full free float 24" barrel, Bushnell 3200 10X on adjustable, steel rings / mounts.
DPMS LR308, Eotech 552, 4lb two stage, G27 grip, four mag's. I actually prefer my AK, but for the kit I think sharing ammo is a priority.
VooDoo Bag, Glock 30 (four mag's, leg & in belt holsters), Bushnell 1500 range finder, Nikon ATB 10X42 bino's, a can of OD spray paint and Ghillie wrap for the M77 in the outside pocket of the bag.

Makes for a fun day at the range! I've been considering the applications of a shotgun in this kit as well... Hmmm??
-
Nice kit. I still need to find a nice bolt action rifle. How do you like that DPMS .308? That is what is on my wishlist or one in .338 Lapua.

I've only run about 50 rounds through my DPMS .308, but I LIKE IT!!!! 8)
Hey Badge... Is that a Bushnell or EOTech on the DPMS?

How is the .338, heard its expensive as hell. Look at Remingtons for a bolt action, they got some nice little bolt action kits you can buy, box mags, Bushnell scopes, basic but perfect for what Badgers got going on. Dick's has got one 700 with x12 scope for $500 in .223 and .308, not sure about the scope on that one though. Great deal on the ammo standardization Badger, that bag holds both rifles and gear?
-
The VooDoo drag bags hold everything listed an more. Good quality for the price, I like'em!
It's an Eotech 552 on the DPMS. Eotech made nearly the same sight for a while and Bushnell marketed it as their "Holosight". The "Holosight" didnt have the steel protective guard around the outside of it.
Thanks for the compliment on the DPMS. I like it a lot. I did a LOT of comparison shopping before buying. A LOT . Shocking what some manufactures are trying to pass off. The Armalite I originally wanted was actually the worst I found for quality, BIG disapointment.
Like all AR's it shoots dirty for my taste because the gases are vented inside the reciever, but DPMS does EXCELLENT machine work, super tight fit on every part, even the upper and lower fit together like a glove, tight glove!. I can shoot sub minute groups with it from bags (had hand loads & a 4X scope on it for that too ;)).
Note, I havent had a chance to look at any of the DPMS guns now that Remington is controlling them. I've heard their quality really fell off since the buy out. (Remington in turn is controlled by Cerberus, who is in turn controlled by... The devil?) ???
Though this one has not failed me once yet. I admit being biased against all AR's because every one I ever used in the military jammed at least once per magazine. I wouldnt trust most AR's to save the life of a piss ant. >:( This one's SLOWLY changing that.
I'd give up everything in the picture and more to own this baby! It takes a lot of mods, but done right, FAL's are NICE!

Thread the end of that barrel & custom fit the stock on this one... Perfection!
-
.338's have awsome balistics!
An AR's action probably isnt going to like that beating for long though. The price of ammo will keep you from wearing it out to fast. ;D
-
I think Remington/Cerberus bought out bushmaster and Cobb!! Not DPMS.
-
I wouldnt trust most AR's to save the life of a piss ant.
Anyone want to have a go at this one?
-
M25,
Yep, DPMS too. DEEEEP POCKETS!
I want to say the previous CEO of Remington was placed in charge of DPMS recently... I'll look it up though.
Revised: Check this out.

Copied from Remington's site:
"About Freedom Group, Inc.
Freedom Group is the world’s leading innovator, designer, manufacturer, and marketer of firearms, ammunition, and related products for the hunting, shooting sports, law enforcement, and military markets. As one of the largest manufacturers in the world of firearms and ammunition, we have some of the most globally recognized brands including Remington, Marlin, Harrington & Richardson, New England Firearms, L.C. Smith, Parker, Bushmaster, DPMS/Panther Arms, EOTAC, and INTC."
I think this list is even still missing several of their aquesitions.

I agree about Cerberus being the Devil. Cerberus is the name of the three headed dog guarding Hades in Greek Mythology. Evil bastards are killing Chrysler also. It is a shame. >:(
-
Chrysler is owned by Cerberus (richest company on gods green earth!!!), yet they hit me and you (taxpayers / America's chumps) up for BILLIONS of dollars out of our pockets because they just dont feel like paying their bills?????????
Ahhh, politics at their finest! >:( >:(

If you're right handed and not going to trick it out, get a Savage. Everything I've read and my friends who own them say that it is the most accurate out of the box rifle for anything close to the price, free floating barrel, very nice trigger etc. If you're a lefy I'm like badger with an M77, great rifle, but a bit of a thumper because of the light weight. This doesn't bother me because I don't shoot it very heavily, and for hunting I like the light weight, but if you plan to, its something to consider.

I go with what fightingquaker13 said. If you want a low cost out of the box "good shooter"... Savage.
If you want something more unique that you dont mind customizing a little... The options are endless!
I like the M77 because the Mauser type action, its Stainless steel, the "Target" model I've got came with a 24" medium heavy barrel with a target crown, factory free floated and laminated stock, even a great fully adjustable two stage trigger. It weighs in at 12.5 pounds equipped as in the picture... So dont worry if recoil bothers you. Most important though, it's supremely accurate!
The problem many find with M77's. Consistancy in quailty (Ruger's well know for over using their tooling). Once you find the model you want pick through half a dozen guns, go to different dealers and look though theirs to! Find the very best one, and if your REALLY picky have the action blueprinted and stock cut to fit you. When Ruger's using new tooling their work is outstanding! You'll love it! ;D
Every shooting range you find will have half a dozen guys shooting Rem. 700's. Nothing here that a new barrel, trigger, blueprinting, and stock work wont fix. NOW your getting seriously spendy. And seriously INTERESTING! If you've gone this far... Once again, your options are endless! FULL CUSTOM BUILD! ;D ;D ;D NICE! I wanna see porn pictures! ;D The high end stuff's pretty!
If you can find an old Rem. that isnt shot out I hear LOTS of good stuff. Lots of aftermarket potental too.

As far as my reccomendation of the savage for a good bolt action goes, here is a new review from gunblast. Their video leaves a bit to be desired but the written reviews are thorough and informative. I would check this one out. http://www.gunblast.com/Savage-111FCNS.htm

That's a sweet rifle! All the right goodies out of the box. And I believe Savage is one of the few companies not yet owned by the devil. :)
When shopping keep in mind heavy bull barrels are hype and a marketing tool (I say this even though I own a few myself). Their purpose is to help keep zero from shifting as barrel temperature changes from either weather or repeated shots. If your rifle's noteably effected by heat take it to be cryo treated. It stress relieves the barrel giving the same effect as the big bull barrel (less warpage from heat). May not look as neat, but you dont have to lug around all the extra weight for nothing. It's MUCH cheaper, and I KNOW it works, I've done it and seen the change in my gun. It costs me $50 bucks at a local machine shop I know the people at. DEAL! :)
-
If you don't mind buying European, then Tikka T3s have sweet actions. There trigger pulls are crisper and cleaner than Savage (or I just go lucky with mine). Also the CZs are nice as well.
-
Thanks FQ, the Savage is one nice looking rifle.

All the members to this forum and nobody's maintaining a readiness bag... ??? :o ???
Not sure if I'll ever completely trust them, but I'll admit adding an AR to my collection almost solely based on the teachings of Mossad Ayoob and his knowledge. Even he says AR's are a rifle that "craps where it eats.". Brilliant choice of words ;D.
Regardless what your opinions may be on AR's. There are damn few that dont have a lot to learn from Mr. Ayoob. Look him up on-line. http://www.backwoodshome.com/ayoob_index.html

I use a Blackhawk 3 Day Assault Bag loaded with goodies. This contains water, first aid and a survival kit. It also includes spare mags for my Glocks. This is just set up for disaster preparedness. The rifles and shotguns remain in the safe and aren't going anywhere unless a F-3 or higher tornado has a direct hit on my home.
-
Ping brings up a SUPER important point. I hope everybody here enjoys being alive enough to keep a survival pack like he talks about! I keep one in each car at all times and found use for them more than once (saved me from loosing a finger one time).
If you dont have one make it today! Dont procrastinate. When you or someone you care about needs it how would you feel knowing you could have easily helped but now can do nothing?
NOT picking on Ping here! But when the time comes a .22 pistol is better than the FAL, Glock, M1 or anything else everyone has at home!!! Were you at home when 9/11 happened? Anyone??? That gun locked up at home wasnt doing you much good was it?
Every state has different laws on how you can carry. DONT break them! But be safe. ;)

Actually I was. (2nd shift) The first I heard of it was my alarm clock radio, I thought they were talking about the earlier bombing, but I couldn't figure out why so I turned on the TV.

I was home, until I remembered my buddy, who owns a gun shop, was in montana hunting. So I went to his shop to help out, things got kinda busy for awhile.
-
I'll BET! A banner day in sales for sure!
It took me 4.5 hours to get home from what was normally a 1.2 hour drive. Listening to the radio the whole time wondering what was going to be their next move... Luckely for us all, they really didnt have one!
-
I was at work and saw the second plane hit. I could not believe my eyes.
-
Maybe someone can start a new thread on bug out bags, voodoo bags, or survival bags so we can get a mix of ideas??? Badgers??? ;)
PS: I live in the city so a .22 would be of no use to me. There are a few squirrels and fewer rabbits. The reason for my extra ammo would be for personal defense.
-
Every city I've ever seen has squirrels. Just get the P22 and screw a suppressor on it! FUN!!!! ;D
Pigeons to!
-
I have my C-Mag topped off at 100 rounds. My other mags are all unloaded but I have 240 rounds in stripper clips in a bag that was made to hold cassette tapes. I need to get some more clips so I can load all my mags from them. I have some army surplus web gear to hold my mags and some basic survival gear in the butt-pack. It wouldn't take long to fill my canteens and get it all together.
As far as shooting squirrels in the city goes, my brother said city squirrels don't taste like the squirrels that live in the woods. I guess the garbage they eat makes them taste bad.
-
Remington 77, .177 Cal. Air Rifle with Crosman Pointed Pellets. Silent but deadly. But could get in trouble if the neighbors called the police. Hmmm, I think I just mentioned a new addition to my kit!!!!
-
" I guess the garbage they eat makes them taste bad. " LOL!!!
Are you kidding though?!? When I took my kid to the Smithsonian people were feeding the squirels candy, suger covered peanuts, popcorn, hot dogs, they were drinking pop from the trash! That meat should be sweeter than Easter day candied ham!!!
(The cassett case idea is genius!)
-
You bringing the hammer for the soft kills Badgersmilk? I am, lol. ;)
-
I'd be afraid of getting diabeties from eating the museum squrrels! Hammer would be the way to go though! Toteing a rifle around in a crouded part of DC probably isnt a good way to meet new people & make friends! ;D ;D ;D Using the hammer should make a hell of a funny clip on the news too!!! ;D
Three or four fox squirrels from "normal woods" make some of the best stew you'll ever taste though! Gotta go for the head shot to save as much meat as possible.

Same way my dad tought me to do it. Yes, I grew up in the South! ;D
-
I was sitting in class once in college and the guy next to me (he was from Louisiana) kept starring out the window at a squirrel that was playing in a tree.
The professor asked him what he was staring at so 'intently' and the guy answered, "Supper".
-
There are some things from the south that could be used by everyone!!!
-
Allright, I gotta tell this story.Totally off topic, but its drtv and who's surprised. When I was in college in DC I was into falconry. My friend and instructor John and I went down to Pentagon City. He was wearing a trench coat, me a barbour oilskin hunting jacket and we both had a brown papaper bag and a loaf of bread. The game was this. We fed the pigeons a few crumbs at a time. When they got close, they were grabbed. After a brief hubub, their friends returned. We'd been doing his for about 20 minutes with great success when a cop strolls up. Apparently some citizen had seen us and taken offense. We explained to the cop what was going on and that it was perfectly legal since pigeons were non protected. He said he didn't belive us, didn't care and had more important things to do and that we were to release the birds or piss him off. At which point we opened the bags and let about 10 birds out. We start to walk away, and he says"All of them!" at which point john and I open our coats and start pulling pigeons out of game pockets and throwing them in the air to the amusement of the cop and what was by this point a fairley large crowd.
fightingquaker13 who is not cut out for a life of crime ;D

I think Remington/Cerberus bought out bushmaster and Cobb!! Not DPMS.
The new Remingtons are Bushmaster and DPMS. Mr. Luth told me which was 5.56 and which was 7.62, but I can't remember :-[
I thought I would figure it out on the plant tour (I think everything labled Remington is camo) with Friends of NRA, but I ended up working at the last minute and missed the meetings.
-
The 7.62's are DPMS to look at them side by side in the store (trigger guard is a quick give away).
-

Yea ... Last evening I was looking through a flyer from a Big Box Store and saw a picture of the Bushmaster 5.56. Outside of the black vs. camo scheme you could not tell the difference.
Only problem I have with it is I miss knowing that I am talking to the "head guy" when I talk to Randy. He is still helpful with information, but it isn't the same. He won't say a word about it, or even hint at it, but you can tell from time to time that "it ain't the same at the shop."
-
Its funny how the hunting magazines wouldnt ever consider talking about this type of rifle until you put a Remington name on it and dipped it in Realtree. ;D
I hope shoppers are smarter than that! ???
AK's with 154gr. hollow points make perfect wild hog guns! MMMMMM, pulled pork! ;)
-
Weak point found in the DPMS AR. Dont feed it Remington Core-Lokt. Five jams from one 20 round box. :(
It tried to feed the new round into the bottom of the empty case before the empty case was extracted all the way. Kind of a stove pipe jam, but both cases would be facing forward in the gun.
Rounder, flatter nosed bullets than most. Likely not good feeding in most semi-auto's, cant say. (Got 2 box's free)
