Panic: an overwhelming fear, that produces hysterical or irrational behavior,
SO: All I have to do is provide rational reasoning behind my purchasing.
1) Democrats, the anti-gun party, control the US House, Senate and White House.
2) There have already been several attempts gun control since in the last 2 months.
3) As a casual, but active, shooter I use 200 rounds a week.
4) The next election is 2 years (104 weeks away).
5) Compute 104 times 200 = 20,800 rounds of ammo needed to tide me over.
6) Competition or serious practice will dictate MORE rounds are needed.
That's not hoarding nor panic buying, that's stocking enough to see me through this period.
I have only have on hand:
100 .38Special
500 .357 Mag
250 .357 Max
350 .40 S&W
300 9mm
500 .45ACP
100 .44 Special
100 .380ACP
50 .32S&W (don't ask)(doesn't include blanks)
2,000 .22lr
1,000 .17HM2
1,300 .223 Rem
100 .338Federal
200 .30Carbine
500 12Gauge
You will notice that I have less than half of what I need to have on hand RATIONALLY! I'm not stocking for EOTWAWKI or doomsday or an uprising. Just stocking for my regular shooting habits.
So forgive me if I scarf up any reasonably priced ammo I see. It's not panic buying.
Alf
ps I'll be off-line a while I do some reloading.

I totally agree.
I get there early, objectively go to the ammo guy, pick out what I know I need, and buy within budget.
There were some credit cards being "rode hard" today, but I calmly, rationally pay cash. ;)

Alf, you have more of some I need, less of others I have.
Picked up 3 boxes Rem .40 Golden Saber at Gander a month or so ago on sale for $15 ea. Same store yesterday, 3 boxes of 12ga Hornady TAP - $2 a round! But they had just gotten it in - 1 case only, Vasily. Too bad it's my expensive bills time of the month, I would have bought more just to have it and be able to practice with it a bit more.
One thought your list prompted me to consider - I am trying to consolidate on calibers since it has become more expensive. So is that why I'm trying to sell a Mini-14 in .223 and building a 6.8? No silly, the Mini-14 is a safe queen and just as soon as I find some 6.8 Rem SPC anything (brass, bullets, cartridges - whatever) I intend to shoot the heck out of it.
But I would think that consolidation here is a good thing. You wouldn't have to spread the wealth around so darn many calibers. IMHO

Wise words. If you really do fear a shortage it would seem to make sense to have a couple thousand in four or five calibers than a few hundred scattered over a dozen or so. It makes good sense to evaluate the function of each gun and ask if others are redundant. I have a Glock 19 and a seventeen why?
fightingquaker13 who is thinng the herd
PS for your benefit Pathfinder I see the fighing quakers had a promising recruiting season. We might win more than 4 games next year. :-\

Actually, I have the makings to reload about 1,500 40S&W and .45ACP and .357 Mag. So things aren't as bleak as they may seem.
My wish list in priority:
9mm
Pistol primers
.22 lr
.17hm2
.223 ammo (Master with 68gr jhp)
.223 Bullets (60 VMax)
.338 Bullets

Why indeed. You should have Sigs.
Alf, forgot to add that I too grab .22 Federals or Fiocchi anytime anyone has them, like at WW. Mostly what I find are Rem yellow box which I won't ever buy except in a pinch - and this ain't a pinch (yet) or Blazer which are unknown to me. They are on sale at Mills Farm & Fleet for $15 a box, so it is tempting.
