OK. Your chance to sound off. If you vote for anything other than #1 you've got to be a lib troll. The article that started this is below....but the people who brought us this are running the asylum.

Homeland Security on guard for 'right-wing extremists'
Returning U.S. military veterans singled out as particular threats

WASHINGTON – A newly unclassified Department of Homeland Security report warns against the possibility of violence by unnamed "right-wing extremists" concerned about illegal immigration, increasing federal power, restrictions on firearms, abortion and the loss of U.S. sovereignty and singles out returning war veterans as particular threats.
The report, titled "Right-wing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment," dated April 7, states that "threats from white supremacist and violent anti-government groups during 2009 have been largely rhetorical and have not indicated plans to carry out violent acts."
However, the document, first reported by talk-radio host and WND columnist Roger Hedgecock, goes on to suggest worsening economic woes, potential new legislative restrictions on firearms and "the return of military veterans facing significant challenges reintegrating into their communities could lead to the potential emergence of terrorist groups or lone wolf extremists capable of carrying out violent attacks."
The report from DHS' Office of Intelligence and Analysis defines right-wing extremism in the U.S. as "divided into those groups, movements and adherents that are primarily hate-oriented (based on hatred of particular religious, racial or ethnic groups) and those that are mainly anti-government, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority, or rejecting government authority entirely. It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration."
The consequences of a prolonged economic downturn – including real estate foreclosures, unemployment and an inability to obtain credit – could create a fertile recruiting environment for right-wing extremists and even result in confrontations between such groups and government authorities similar to those in the past," the report says.
It adds that "growth in these groups subsided in reaction to increased government scrutiny as a result of the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing and disrupted plots, improvements in the economy and the continued U.S. standing as the pre-eminent world power."
"Proposed imposition of firearms restrictions and weapons bans likely would attract new members into the ranks of right-wing extremist groups as well as potentially spur some of them to begin planning and training for violence against the government," the report continues. "The high volume of purchases and stockpiling of weapons and ammunition by right-wing extremists in anticipation of restrictions and bans in some parts of the country continue to be a primary concern to law enforcement."
Most notable is the report's focus on the impact of returning war veterans.
"Returning veterans possess combat skills and experience that are attractive to right-wing extremists," it says. "DHS/I&A is concerned that right-wing extremists will attempt to recruit and radicalize veterans in order to boost their violent capacities."
The report cites the April 4 (RASTUS NOTE: Strange how such a thoughtful document that has been in progress for a long time can be published with such fresh information...they wouldn't use tragedy, would they? ) shooting deaths of three police officers in Pittsburgh as an example of what may be coming, claiming the alleged gunman holds a racist ideology and believes in anti-government conspiracy theories about gun confiscations, citizen detention camps and "a Jewish-controlled 'one-world government.'"
It also suggests the election of an African-American president and the prospect of his policy changes "are proving to be a driving force for right-wing extremist recruitment and radicalization."
The report also mentions "'end times' prophecies could motivate extremist individuals and groups to stockpile food, ammunition and weapons. These teachings also have been linked with the radicalization of domestic extremist individuals and groups in the past, such as the violent Christian Identity organizations and extremist members of the militia movement."
"DHS/I&A assesses that right-wing extremist groups' frustration over a perceived lack of government action on illegal immigration has the potential to incite individuals or small groups toward violence," the report continues.
The report states the DHS will be working with state and local partners over the next several months to determine the levels of right-wing extremist activity in the U.S.
Last month, the chief of the Missouri highway patrol blasted a report issued by the Missouri Information Analysis Center that linked conservative groups to domestic terrorism, assuring that such reports no longer will be issued. The report had been compiled with the assistance of DHS.
The report warned law enforcement agencies to watch for suspicious individuals who may have bumper stickers for third-party political candidates such as Ron Paul, Bob Barr and Chuck Baldwin.
It further warned law enforcement to watch out for individuals with "radical" ideologies based on Christian views, such as opposing illegal immigration, abortion and federal taxes.
Chief James Keathley of the Missouri State Patrol issued a statement that the release of the report, which outraged conservatives nationwide, prompted him to "take a hard look" at the procedures through which the report was released by the MIAC.
"My review of the procedures used by the MIAC in the three years since its inception indicates that the mechanism in place for oversight of reports needs improvement," he wrote. "Until two weeks ago, the process for release of reports from the MIAC to law enforcement officers around the state required no review by leaders of the Missouri State Highway Patrol or the Department of Public Safety."
"For that reason, I have ordered the MIAC to permanently cease distribution of the militia report," he said. "Further, I am creating a new process for oversight of reports drafted by the MIAC that will require leaders of the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Department of Public Safety to review the content of these reports before they are shared with law enforcement. My office will also undertake a review of the origin of the report by MIAC."

Every time I pass a mirror, I jump back. "Look at that right wing extremist!! What an old, bitter, clinging, a**hole...." Then I realize it's just me, and go on about my day.

I have personally known vets that have snapped in bad ways, but I think the bad apples are a LOT fewer and far between than in the general population.

Did they snap because they were vets? Every demographic has its bad apples, and like you said, vets are probably fewer than most. They fear these people because vets leaders and confident, and if a bunch of them got together against the government, politically or whatever, they are going to have the ability to move people. This is a move to discredit our brothers, those crazies extremist, don't listen to or follow them, they're damaged goods. I wouldn't trade one vet for a thousand politicians...even if he was crazy or extreme, because he still wouldn't be able to top Washington's craziness.

Exactly ! Especially in this era of Volunteer only forces, the veteran may personally be a scumbag but has VOLUNTARILY showed a sense of TRUE social responsibility by putting duty to country ahead of his own safety and comfort.

You are right, but that is not how the Left views it. Take John Kerry for example. His views are that those who serve in the military are either too dumb to know any better and are essentially doupt into service, or they are forced into the military because their economic situation has forced them to do so.

Yes but John Kerry is a social climbing POS, who is still stuck in the 60's and 70's when people asked me, "Why are you in the Marines, couldn't you find a REAL job". >:(

For the most part I'm not afraid of them. The majority are good people like us. But then as I look around our Norteno and Sureno gangs I do see the possibility of returning hispanic soldiers not finding "the love" from a grateful nation and finding a home within the gangs. That is the original reason these gangs started way back when was the feelings that the immigrants didn't fit in with the rest of society and they needed protection so they formed these gangs. Current day of course they are now criminal street gangs with immense power in their communities.
Our PD has caught the Surenos in our area holding military style training camps at midnight in the local parks...talk about the roaches running away when the light hit them!...Can you imagine ex-Marines coming home, getting honorably discharged, but they can't find a job, they have a family to support, and their friends are in the gangs telling them we have a use for you, come to us, you'll have money, we'll help you support your family, just teach us what you know?
Here in Kalifornia we are hearing about this "reconquista" stuff from our "undocumented workers".... That is what I'm scared of...not so much the majority of the honorably discharged vets.

They snapped (I believe) because they saw some sh!t that should not be seen by humans. Most were Desert Storm NG--they went in thinking it was a weekend a month playing with guns and I get some $$ and college paid for. Saw all sorts of horrible stuff and then get dumped back into Heartland America, no decompression at all. Whole different world than today's military.
I agree with your assessment of why they fear them--they fear them because of ability more than motive.

I want these guys, past and present watching my back! Semper Fi Devil Dogs!

Myself and the other vets had fun saying to each other yesterday, "Hi I am radicalized terrorist, you must be as well. Semper Fi!" We all had a laugh at that one. Guess I scare myself in the mirror. Although that male pattern baldness does scare me.

Governor Perry said yesterday, "you all don't look like a bunch of extremist, but if you are, I'm with ya!" I was proud to have our vets lead us on our march to the river yesterday.

Actually it's the Somali - Al Quada veterans who will be returning home to Minnesota that scare me!

They give you a medal for shooting some raghead you never saw before, that hasn't done anything to you (yet), but if you shoot the banker who repo'd your house, or your wifes boyfriend then you are a psycho.

To be honest, most people that don't know me, are scared of me! My friends have come to accept it, mostly!

At this time, the only veteran that scares me is Al Gore. Probably a few others in DC also.

Al Gore is certainly scary, but I think that Rahm emmanuel (sp?) is more threatening. You've got to wonder what somebody like Rahm is planning for the people who don't agree with him. It sometimes seems that politically motivated people, people who have a crusade with them in the lead, always tout danger for that very thing they wish to deprive other people of. Remember the privacy concerns of the Clintons a few administrations back....so worried about privacy, heck, they even campaigned on it...then promptly gathered up the FBI background checks to see what was up with their competitors.

Oh.....I don't know. I might be guilty of my own bias and injected ridicule...kind of like the polls the libs do. So, I did demonize them a bit by implying, correctly I might add, that they are loons in the funny farm. Then I maybe, picked fun at the Bamobots who voted for him....with the next two statements...so I guess that was constructed to frame his supporters as, oh I don't know, maybe the loons they really are.
So, I guess you could say I had an agenda. ;D
Heck, I got up the other morning full of steam and headstrong and I needed a laugh...I particularly liked the part, where I made fun of them by implying they were frightened old women who would pee down both legs if confronted by a someone, like our vets, who are real men and women. I'm sorry, I apologize for the feeble attempts at ridiculing the leftist loons...Tom or Haz could do it so much better than I, but then like I said I had attitude going.

hahahah onya :) classic

I am especially fearful of those who say that civilians should not have the right to own select-fire weapons. I think they have forgotten who the boss is around here......

Your off to a pretty good start, you just need practice.

I know I can't say much, seeing as i've never served. Pretty much all I can say is thank you, because along the lines of what Tom said, you have the courage to put yourself on the line for others, and I greatly appreciate it. As far as being crazy, well I think in that line of work you might have to be a little bit crazy, and I know that I would trust my back turned to any of you over any know-it-all liberal.

Tom or Dave or Geoff (or the evil Marshalette),
Did ya'll get another ID and vote in this thing to pull my string? Somebody voted the dumb sheep option. Nobody on this board, outside a troll, can be that clueless and out-of-touch unless they've been hit in the head with something. Especially since the Napolitano almost an-apology-fascist-justification I'm really not retracting this speech TV sound bite op.
Maybe it was Hugo Chavez? Chavez was shaking BHO's hand at the UN last night.....

I had to check...you know how I ridicule the Greek's and the absurd part of their thinking that has invaded Western Civilzation.
Something like, you have two walnuts on one end of the table, you have two more on the other end of the same table...so you have to consider that there aren't reallly four walnuts on the table when summed with the entire universe of walnuts on the table there are only four distict, individual observations of walnuts. Yes I know about imaginery numbers, time-space bending through Einstein's theories, etc...but what is observable in the instance above is concrete. The Greeks thought they could sit around and their minds were of such brilliance they could solve anything sitting around in a big circle.
The Greeks often ignored direct observation and repeatability when they derived a solution....perhaps why they never crawled any further up the ladder of accomplishment...they had no concept and no way to get to the Modern Scientific Method which does produce innovation and useful items by way of direct observation and repeatability.

Though I was not serious about the vote, I am serious about my post; fortunately those people (e.g. Gen. Wesley Clark) are in the minority.....

Everyone:
Do military veterans scare me. This would mean that my father and both brothers scare me. I think not! What does scare me is we have the most unqualifed President in office today.

I taught my sons (returning vets) everything I know. If that scares you, immigrate to England.
