"I have not backed off at all from my belief that the assault weapons ban makes sense," Obama said, adding that he is not "under any illusions that reinstating that ban would be easy."
Instead, the president said his administration is focused on enforcing laws that are already on the books, like targeting guns that are illegally smuggled over the border that are "helping to fuel extraordinary violence" as the drug trade soars.
"That's something we can stop," Obama said.

Hell my 10/22 is an assault rifle if i assault you with it. A 10/22 AR15 whats the difference if they are used for evil a slingshot is just as bad.

English 101 from a guy that barely passed it the first time, but a guy smart enough to know how to use Mr. Webster's big red book:
Verb = a word that describes action
Noun = a word that names a person, place, animal or item
Assault = verb
Weapon or Gun = noun
Adding an action to a name does not make the thing the action!
Guns do not have the ability to preform an action!
If you are going to hire people to write the hype the Citizens of the United States of America deserve the writers come as students of history and english rather than political science and "spin doctor" class!

That's why most of my teachers thought I couldn't talk ... Everytime I spoke up I was made an example of ;) However, I am now 300 250 pounds of mean, ugly and nasty, and I don't give a S*** what most people think of what I say!
But, I will listen to the cat cuddler ... and others on here.

why don't you just do that insted of putting more laws in
just look what Banning guns did in Australia....... nothing the Criminals still have them
and it cost us over 500Mil 10 years ago. what would it cost the USA now

Big Bullseye there philw, a lot of us have been asking the same damn thing......
Cost means little to the Democrats, they will cut the military budget, and raise taxes and fees, (plus just print up a lot of money), to try to buy this countries way to better end.
It has never worked, and it never will.
