This post has to do with mail in the USPS. I am a member of the NRA. While, I don't agree with everything they say, they are at least trying to fight for our gunrights. Anyway, as a member periodically I get mailings from them in the mail. I'm sure a lot of you do too. But, strangly enough..that last 4 or 5 mailings I have recieved from them have been tampered with. >:( Now, my other mail never is. Is this a coensidence or on purpose. The local post offices assures me that they aren't doing anything to it. Somehow between the NRA and me it gets opened or partially opened. Anybody else had similar experiences? And it seems to have been going on since around the first of the year. The first time or two I didn't think much about it.. now I'm wondering what's going on. Then I wondered is this something that is happening to other NRA memebers?

I've never had this happen, perhaps you should have them hold you mail at the post office instead of getting it sent to the house, if you can even do that. Then you could find out. Maybe have a talk with you mailman, nothing accusatory, but your questions may send a message to him.

Let the post office know asap.
You don't mess with the post office. Thier crimal investagtions department, has the highest conviction rate of any other federal LEA. Its even higher then the ATFs and just like the ATF, they don't play fair or use lube.
most of the laws were written a long time ago( you back when pay roll went thru the post office) they have some big time fines and jail time. You actually get less time for robbing a bank, then you do for stealing mail.

I agree with TAB on this. I've not had a problem. No conspiracy here, I mean hell if the feds wanted to know what was in the mail all they'd have to do is have an agent join right? Its probably either coincidence or a bored/hostile mail carrier. TABS point about not messing with the Postal Inspectors is spot on. Back in the day Ben Franklin created and championed the Post Office and post roads as the way to keep the newly independent states united through commerce and correspondence. Add to that the fact that people sent actual money via post plus all legal correspondence. Protecting the mail was seen as one of THE preeminent national security issues. Even back in the uneasy days of early federalism no one, Calhoun included, bitched about the Patriot Act level of power given to the Post Office. Those boys do play for keeps. I'd rather threaten the president than try to steal the mail.

Agencies like the FBI, CIA, even the all hearing NSA, have the ability to open mail, but since they got caught in the 60's, They ONLY do it by getting a Postal inspector to do it which requires the movement of mountains, courts and congress, It is an ABSOLUTE last resort, USPS is in fact the most secure method of communication in America. Between the World wars there were a rash of train robberies, the President gave the job to the Marines, with instructions that if any more mail disappeared it better be over their dead bodies. After that the robberies stopped with the loss of only one Marine. With the exceptions of the GOV.ABUSES,of the Cold War the US Mail while robbed on occasion is more or less "hands OFF".

As an employee of the aforementioned burgeoning government bureaucracy. My suspicion is it is most likely getting hung in the 90,000+ pieces an hour Delivery Point Sequencing machine on one of it's 3 + trips down the 34 feet of conveyor belt, ripping it open.
It happens.....alot.

My mail that was on a vacation hold for a week last year finally got here 5 months later. Nothing else the post office does with our mail surprises me anymore.

Oh it was probably there the whole time. Probably in another box just down the street with Someone else's hold mail from the same time frame and they finally put it back in their box as a "misdelivery" months later. Or better delivered to a "vacant" house and new people moved in and saw the mail that had been laying dead for months and put their flag up.
Nothing they do surprises me anymore either. Was a lot smoother machine when I started over a decade ago. Their get more done, in less time, with less people, with more machines and with zero time for error correction has destroyed the only thing we sell....CUSTOMER SERVICE! >:(
