Title: My New LWRC AR-15 Paul Howe Package!
Post by: billt on April 21, 2009, 03:19:17 PM
I've been wanting one of these rifles for a long time, and today was the day! This is without question the finest AR-15 I've ever seen, let alone have the pleasure to own. A Cadillac with a price to match, but worth every penny paid. As many of you know the problem isn't buying one of these rifles, but rather FINDING one. Now that I have it and the hunt is over, I can sit back and enjoy it. I doubt there is, or ever will be a finer gas piston AR-15.   Bill T.

Actually no wait at all. I was hemming and hawing about placing an order, but lead times on these rifles are quite long, and I'm not very patient in that regard, so I never placed a firm order. Then yesterday a local shop by me who carries an excellent stock of black rifles, optics and equipment got one in. That was it, as they say, just one look was all it took. It's very hard to shell out that kind of coin for a rifle like this, but had I not I know I would be forever kicking myself later. My wife made a very good point. She said, We just shelled out over two and a half grand to have the house painted, and in another 7 or 8 years our reward for doing it will be to do it again. I said to her, Honey, that's a very good point and hold that thought, I'll be back in an hour or so! She laughed as I grabbed the keys to my truck and headed out the door. She knew where I was headed.   Bill T.

These are a few quick pictures I took of my new LWRC M-6 Carbine I picked up this past week. This one will keep my CSAT Rifle company.

Now all I need is plenty of range time!

What I really like about the LWRC series of piston rifles are the little things you notice over the many D.I. guns on the market. The way the receiver is strategically reinforced where the buttstock attaches. The massive attachment of the forend at the rear, and the larger trigger guard to accommodate gloved hands. They really go the extra mile to cover all the bases and pay close attention to detail that so many of the other manufacturers miss.

Both the CSAT rifle, and the M-6 A2 Carbine side by side.  Bill T.

I always like seeing those three position safties on PIF's!  We can't have them up here, but it is good to see others enjoy them.

I've seen a few that have the three position safeties.  What do you get with the third option, is it a automatic weapon, or just semi auto, or nothing at all?

All of them I've gotten my hands on have been either burst or auto.  Not sure on Bill's but I can dream and drool can't I  ;D

It is only a standard semi auto 2 position switch. They use the same receiver, but without the "happy switch".  Bill T.

I had both of my LWRC rifles out to the range yesterday just to run a few rounds through them, and check function and bench accuracy with 4 different types of factory ammo, (Federal XM-193 Ball, Federal American Eagle, Fiocchi .223 Ball, and Remington UMC 55 gr. FMJ), and several different handloads I've assembled. Both guns digested everything without a hitch. I used 4 different magazines, (C-Products, Magpul P-Mags, Tapco, and DH), everyone of them ran well in both rifles. What impressed me the most is not only the accuracy of these weapons, but how cool and clean they run compared to D.I. guns. There was little to no cleaning to speak of. Granted I only ran around 160 rounds through each rifle, but it was amazing how completely free the guns were of all the dirt and crap you get with a D.I. weapon.

I can see why piston guns are catching on the way they are, and why LWRC weapons are hard to get. I was a naysayer when these things first started to appear as well. Now, after buying and shooting 2 of them, even just the limited amount I have, the reason for the popularity is totally obvious. The only downside I had the whole day was having to leave! I'll do some serious accuracy work later when I can get some good glass mounted. My 56 year old eyes ain't what they used to be!  Bill T.

You didn't show a good picture of the CSAT rear sight!  It's the best idea for a rear AR sight I've seen in years!

Also, the rear sight is what gives the gun it's name! CSAT.  If it's that important...

And what do you think of the CSAT?

I really like the CSAT rear sight. It's easy to use and very accurate. Once you get used to it, and how it functions, (which only takes minutes), you'll be saying, "Why didn't I think of that". Here is a good video of the sight in action explained by it's inventor, Paul Howe:

Bill, thanks for the video. Like the simplicity of it. I need two of them. ;D
